Damn, I miss Pierce as Bond, even though he is too old now to still play him. Aside from GoldenEye, I don't think the Brosnan-era were the greatest films in the series, but that's not Brosnan's fault. That's because all Fleming's books have been filmed. Pierce was a great Bond, and one handsome bastard I have to say as a guy >
+Every Year in Music Playlists I don't think it has anything to do with Fleming's books at all. Most Bond films(including the great ones) aren't really based on the novels anyways. After Thunderball, most of them just used certain ideas and characters from the books as opposed to being genuinely faithful adaptations like the Harry Potter series for instance.

While Sean Connery IS Bond and my favorite of all time, you can't deny Peirce is one who will be remembered.
Connery will also always be remembered but not so much by younger audiences. Connery, Moore and Brosnan will be the most remembered Bond actors as well as Craig

They should have never sacked Pierce Brosnan from playing James Bond, he was the best, apart from Sean Connery. Daniel Craig as James Bond is ridiculous. I stopped watch Bond movies when Craig took over from Brosnan.

Good for you. You don't know how much great action and character moments you missed. I'm a fan of all the Bonds anyway, it's much more fun to have 24 DIFFERENT movies to enjoy than being nostalgic.

Pierce as James Bond was great for my years, i've watched all of the bond films, moonraker was my first bond film i ever bought, goldeneye was and (IMHO) still is the great FPS game, i only need 3 more bond movies XD
I grew up with Brosnan as Bond. Goldeneye was the first Bond flick I ever saw as a kid. These days, having seen them all time and time again, Lazenby and Dalton are my favorites.

I just like him so much as Bond and I miss him as ole' Bondy, I really do. I feel like he was the greatest Bond, and he truly defined the character, not just because I grew up with him and he was my first Bond, but because he played Bond particularly well. I felt like Goldeneye had the best plot of his bond movies(or any bond movie for that matter, it was just great) and I feel like(no offense to the writers) that the other ones with him had sub-par writing, but were saved by Pierce's brilliant acting and screen presence. I feel really privileged to have had him as the bond of my childhood.

He was dropped due to Barbara Broccoli and the studio heads wanting to hire a younger actor for Casino Royale and reboot the series. Brosnan was angry as he was interested in the script for Casino Royale although he did support the casting of Daniel Craig as did Roger Moore, Timothy Dalton and Sean Connery

He spoke about exploring the character and revealing layers never seen before. It is a shame that the 4 movies (that got progressively worse) never explored anything promised, but instead became just run of the mill action films.
Not through any fault of Pierce himself, he was just given poor scripts, supporting cast and 3 bad directors.
To be fair, we actually did get hints of that in GoldenEye. It was the first time we knew what happened to Bond's parents in the movies, you could tell Bond had a connection with Alec and was somewhat hurt by his betrayal and among other things, the tone of GoldenEye was a lore more subtle and introspective compared to the other Brosnan movies. The story more revolved around Bond himself than everything around him.
UltimaKeyMaster originally Goldeneye was written for Timothy Dalton and after 6 years of Bond movies being halted due to dealing with legal ligation and delays they didn’t want to put the movie through more delays with changes so left the tone darker with Dalton in mind but he resigned in 1994 as wanted to move on to other roles and was fed up with all delays as the studio wanted to make a third Dalton film in 1991 but it never happened.
Goldeneye is great and honestly my favorite from the entire franchise. Tomorrow Never Dies and The World Is Not Enough are ok, but Die Another Day is bad.
Still those three after Goldeneye, especially the two after, are still better than anything with Craig post Casino Royale, in my opinion.

@brok2 Sorry, the audio is not very good there so the question is lost. But Pierce answers it with a "No!". As for the number one Bond fan, that person is Graham Rye, the editor of the British James Bond Fan Club. A magazine that is published 2 or 4 times a year and has been around since the late 1970s. You can pick up some copies off of Ebay. High recommended if you are a real Bond fan.

interesting to see that the filmmakers initially were willing to showcase a more human bond when brosnan took over. i wonder why this idea didn't materialize with the brosnan films. i feel it wasn't until craig took over that the audience was able to see bond struggle with his inner demons.
Because Michael G. Wilson is an ass and oversees scripts since the 1980s. He pulled his fingers out for Casino Royale because he had no other choice, they simply couldn't continue with a DAD-like carnival.
It was because they were afraid to break the mold, and no other iteration of the spy genre had proven to be successful at that time.
Until the Bourne series came out. In many ways that movie series changed the spy genre and injected new life into it. Its repercussions affected not only Bond, but Mission Impossible as well.
Listening to Pierce talk about the attempt at bringing a closer sense of grittiness and realism to the Bond films, it's hard (and a bit funny in hindsight) to imagine that his 4th and final Bond film DIE ANOTHER DAY, was one of the most outlandish, cartoonish, over-the-top films in the series. Hell, even Roger Moore, who was the "1st Bond in space" (MOONRAKER) thought that DAD took things overboard.
It's kinda sad because it DID look like a dark movie at first, what with Bond being realistically shown he couldn't just instantly escape from being captured and tortured for more than a YEAR. Fast forward to the halfway point and we get Bond driving away from *a beam of pure fucking sunlight.* It's like they got literal cold feet about making that one dark and decided to one-up any goofy thing he did up to that point. When the VIDEO GAME he did two years later (Everything or Nothing) was more grounded in its tone than the last movie he did, there's a problem, and that game certainly didn't shy away from having silly concepts that would only work in a game (i.e. NANOMACHINES SON)

Many fans prefer the 'grittiness' and 'realism' prevalent in Daniel Craig's interpretation of Bond - others like the humour purveyed by the films of Roger Moore. That's what makes Bond unique - it's diversity - personally I like a good mix of the both which Pierce injected. Nobody can ultimately say what is best. We all like different aspects in the 007 films and the Brosnan years added well to the overall Bond style. 'SkyFall' looks like having the afore-mentioned ingredients in a great balance
I love how brosnan says Bond is always "In control" what happened to the new craig movies. He seems to always be losing. I hate when they try to change a character for the worse.

@KISSarmyGuy - I haven't watched the Brosnan films in quite awhile. Being a Bond fan since the 1960s, I prefer Connery. I also have behind the scenes footage that I offer up for historical purposes. As history has shown, the younger generation who grew up with a specific actor as OO7 usually related best with that actor. Thus Connery is my favorite where people 10 years younger than me would say Roger Moore. People in their teens and 20s would say Brosnan. But to each their own.
Because I'm racist, I like the fact that an Irishman does the job...he does it extremely well...too...

Barbara Broccoli essentially let Brosnan go after Die Anothet Day when he was interested in coming back a 5th time as liked how script for Casino Royale was darker then his previous Bond films but she basically told him they wanted to get a younger actor to play Bond and reboot the series. Brosnan was angry he was stated years later after being interviewed after Casino Royale came out. He never worked with Broccoli and rest of Eon Productions again.

People will allways argue about who`s the better Bond, but I though they all brougth their own thing to the table. My favorites remain to this day Connery, Moore and Brosnan. But I must admit, Brosnans REALLY great performance as 007 was Goldeneye. TND and TWINE is good also, DAD is still entertaining but easysely his worst. Weird how he said it was "more realistic", I mean invisible cars and ice pallaces? lol
@RaftCoveProductions It was actually "never argue with a woman - they're always right". I never had any problems with that line (I've found out its usually true anyway) but maybe thats because I'm in my mid 20s so I'm used to political correctness. To be honest I think the line was meant as a joke anyhow.
@KISSarmyGuy Whatever! It's still not Fleming's Bond. However, it must be bothering Brosnan since Craig is being offered another 5 movies after this new one comes out in 2012. If Craig accepts and completes 8 films, he will have out done every other actor in that role.

I don't agree that Pierce Brosnan was a bad choice to play 007 and that his films were dire - 'GoldeneEye' was a brilliantly entertaining film, 'Tomorrow Never Dies' was a great action flick and 'The World Is Not Enough' was excellent fun. 'Die Another Day' was on the whole a great Bond movie but suffered from poor cgi effects and over-the-top gadgets took it slightly into the realms of fantasy but hey....it's a BOND film - the public have always expected and demanded
