      Truth! 😆 He made quite an impression in Top Gun. And befpre Tombstone, I was a HUGE fan of Real Genuis. Even owned the VHS. Weird that the Sweepstakes guy is Uncle Rico.

    I definitely agree with that, being Tombstone as one of the greatest westerns along with the other two mentioned. Silverado should also get a honorable mention.

    I LOVED this movie and never even saw the Kevin Costner version, but I'll check it out if I can find it on RUclips. But maybe not, I've seen Tombstone at least 3 times, once on the big screen and to me it was perfect. Thanks for filling in a lot of the details I wasn't aware of, two thumbs way up!

      The KC version is what they said, a character study, basically Kev chewing the scenery for 2 hours.

      The Kevin Costner one is a little slow. It's just that Tombstone is just so much more fun!

    certainly one of my favorites. without Val as Doc, would of been average at best. He really did make his character feel dangerous

    Well, you can always argue a film's merits; taste is relative after all. However, I will say "Tombstone" is one of my favourite westerns, and Val Kilmer (who was quite well known by 1993) gave an Academy Award-worthy performance. I just wish the film didn't have the controversy surrounding it about who actually directed. I talked to someone claiming to be a member of the film crew who said that during shooting it was Cosmatos who was calling the shots- which is something you can take for whatever it's worth. I just don't know. But, (like with "The Thing From Another World," "Poltergeist," and even "Return Of The Jedi") lingering questions about how much credit the person listed as director actually deserves can be a troubling distraction. Cosmatos was a talented film maker; his suspense tale 'Of Unknown Origin" is one of the best examinations of obsession ever made. I think he was more than capable of directing without needing someone over his shoulder telling him what to do. If his just taking the credit when Russell actually directed was the deal, then I think they both did themselves a disservice. And the fact Cosmatos is no longer here to tell us his side in all this makes it particularly frustrating. But, oh well, at least we ended up with a classic film.

      Thank you for your comment. You have a grrat point. Have you seen the Michael Biehn interview? He also claims that Cosmotos really directed the film.

      I haven't seen that interview. I understand Val Kilmer said it was Russell who directed him, so the controversy continues and I just find it maddening.

    From a historical standpoint, Wyatt Earp was much more accurate than Tombstone. Tombstone was more entertaining.

      That's a great way to phrase it!

    • @alswearengen6427
      @alswearengen6427 3 месяца назад

      It was only more accurate because the movie ended up being a 3 1/2 hour slog of a documentary. Tombstone was a far better paced movie that cut out the fat, but still remained accurate to history.

    Costner also tried using his clout as a movie star by trying to convince the studio to cancel Tombstone. Very petty.

      I love Costner, but his pettiness during this time was epic. 😆

      And it bit him in the butt afterwards because EVERYONE knows and loves Tombstone but everyone tolerates and barely remembers Costner’s Wyatt Earp.

    Kevin Costner sucks. He is a bad actor and has an holier-than-thou, uppity attitude. How he keeps getting work is a genuine mystery. Tombstone was infinitely better than Costner's version.
