Can you add a part where you switch between the beats and compare them to each other? Or maybe give tips for memorizing them? Thanks a lot! I really appreciate your work and love your videos
Hey that’s a great idea for a lesson “stringing different grooves together”. It’s a lot of repetition to get good at that. Think of it like when you learn a language and someone gives you a sentence you need to recite, that takes a long time before you can do it without checking the next word etc. I like to sing the groove in my head “boom, bap, boom boom bap” while listening to it and then try singing it without playing it. Then after that try to switch between singing it and playing it. I hope that helps!

Ross, you probably know me by now - with the amount of interactions I have had with you. I have the same brand of Cajon (probably not the same model), but how do you get such a sound with so less effort - almost just ‘touching’ the surface?
Thanks for the great question :-) I think the two elements at work here are the "velocity" of the hit and the sound recording/editing process. I don't move my hands all that far off the drum but my hands have become quite trained in moving very quickly across that short distance to make a reasonably loud sound. The mics being close and having their gain settings quite loud makes them more sensitive than the ears of someone standing and listening close by. My recording/editing process also includes EQ, compression and reverb that can make small sounds seem much larger too.
It might be different depending on your location but if you search Google for the MEINL Subwoofer Cajon, you should get some shopping results I believe.
