    Hey everyone. I'm really sorry but I totally missed that the middle two bass accents are the other way around in the full speed version of beat #2. I don't think I can fix it for this video, sadly. I'll have to remake the video 😅 Probably not right away but after a little while. Until that time, we'll just have to deal with this slightly flawed version. Thanks in advance for understanding. To make the most of the situation, you can practice switching between the two versions using this special PDF I just made: drive.google.com/file/d/1i8WCZeiePNDRMDLJdnJSdAP2kIj5knhs/view?usp=sharing

      Thanks James! I found I could get a great sound by playing overall much softer than usual but still hitting the snare accents with a good amount of energy. Then with the right mic position, high gain and EQ, I could make it really cut. Thanks again for watching and commenting.

    • @rosslmccallum
      @rosslmccallum  3 года назад +1

      Hey that’s a great idea for a lesson “stringing different grooves together”. It’s a lot of repetition to get good at that. Think of it like when you learn a language and someone gives you a sentence you need to recite, that takes a long time before you can do it without checking the next word etc. I like to sing the groove in my head “boom, bap, boom boom bap” while listening to it and then try singing it without playing it. Then after that try to switch between singing it and playing it. I hope that helps!

    Ross, you probably know me by now - with the amount of interactions I have had with you. I have the same brand of Cajon (probably not the same model), but how do you get such a sound with so less effort - almost just ‘touching’ the surface?

    • @rosslmccallum
      @rosslmccallum  Год назад +1

      Thanks for the great question :-) I think the two elements at work here are the "velocity" of the hit and the sound recording/editing process. I don't move my hands all that far off the drum but my hands have become quite trained in moving very quickly across that short distance to make a reasonably loud sound. The mics being close and having their gain settings quite loud makes them more sensitive than the ears of someone standing and listening close by. My recording/editing process also includes EQ, compression and reverb that can make small sounds seem much larger too.
