- Who would win in a fight between Meta Knight from the Kirby franchise and Marth from Super Smash Bros Melee... also technically Fire Emblem, but let's be real, you know him from Smash, yeah? Today, we have an animated battle to determine the answer. Smash Bracket is an animated vs. battle series created by InkThinks dedicated to answering the question... Who is canonically the strongest character in Super Smash Bros. History?

WHY DID THE WINNER WIN? (See community tab for analysis. It wont fit here lol)
Alrighty! Hold the pitchforks! Let's break down this result because there were a lot of surprising factors at play that tipped the match in Marth's favor.
This match was incredibly tough to call because so many things relied on interpretation. For example, what is the size of the planet that Meta Knight cracks: Popstar? The planet changes size in just about every single iteration, which is frustrating when Meta Knight's greatest direct strength feat comes from that. In all though, we decided that the size doesn't matter as much as the given number of the power required to break it. 201 Megatons of force. By using this number, and accounting for the surface area of Meta Knight's fist, that brings us in at about 42.52 petajoules per cm^2.
This is sizably less than Marth's best feat of strength, destroying Grima (either through scaling with the goddess Naga's power or directly in Fire Emblem Heroes). Grima is so massive that the power required to destroy him would be equal to 21 Zettajoules per cm^2. It feels unintuitive, but when you do the math, Marth is hitting 493,885 times harder than Meta Knight. This applies to both of their durability as well. There are many legitimate interpretations of the Popstar feat that would give different numbers, but when going off of the only in-game, unchanging metric we are given, this is what comes out on the other end.
Speed is also a big factor here. While the size of the Kirby galaxy is unknown, potentially much smaller than our own, Meta Knight's flight across it is almost certainly FAR faster than Marth's top speed of Mach 9,700.
That being said, this is Meta Knight's Travel speed, not neceessarily the speed at which he can attack and maneuver. When we look at Meta Knight best direct feat of tight maneuvering (attacking Kirby repeatedly before he falls a single cm) he is only moving at about Mach 2. Now, while he can boost this with multipliers, those same buffs can also be immediately turned against him with Panic Smoke. Not to mention that even with modifiers he would be moving nowhere close to Marth's top speed.
It IS possible that Meta Knight could just hold out his sword and tackle Marth out of the solar system before he could blink. Given his elite strategic ability almost certainly surpasses Marth, he could assuredly think of this. The issue comes when Marth's Dark Sphere and Falchion's sealing come into play. The Darksphere would render Marth nearly invincible unless his max durability is blown past. However, in the manga this seems to function off of some sort of mind control. While likely not totally immune to it, Meta Knight has shown an ability to power through mind control before. What he has NOT shown is an immunity to divine sealing, which the Falchion has and would prevent Meta Knight from engaging with any physical attacks, including those that do not deal damage like presumably disarming, tackling, lifting, etc...
This would leave Meta Knight needing to engage with projectile attacks. These do not have impressive displays of speed or strength comparable to what Meta Knight physically puts out. Because of this, it is extremely unlikely that they would be fast or strong enough to deal damage to Marth. Even if he did, he would need to kill Marth in a single shot as the lifestone would automatically restore Marth to full health. This is an incredibly powerful ability when combined with miracle/prayer crests which allow Marth to survive one otherwise lethal attack.
This all comes together to paint a very grim picture for Meta Knight, and that is without considering the fact that Marth could kill him in a single shot. Even if it took repeated strikes though, Marth's abilites would prevent Meta Knight from healing. When that is coupled with Marth's counter abilities (which turn damage back on his attacker) and Marth's miracle/prayer crest abilities, Meta Knight is at serious risk of taking himself out, even if Marth weren't able to land an attack.
This leaves Meta Knight with a serious power, durability, and speed advantage. Even if he had a more widely-accepted strength and speed (being *far* faster and stronger than we found viable in our research) these advantages would still be largely negated. The Falchion would STILL prevent Meta Knight from making physical contact, his counter abilities would still turn back damage (which do not require Marth to physically hit them back. The damage is automatic), and the falchion would still be healing him back to full health each turn.
At the end of the day, Meta Knight is left with only a vast skill advantage due to beating the most powerful warrior in the galaxy rather than simply the planet.
Despite what would seem initially like a completely one-sided match, impressions can be deceiving. Marth brought everything he needed to the table to take the victory.

What about his dimensional cape?
Meta knight beat galacta knight, the strongest warrior in the galaxy, in space. Marth's Falchion is indestructible and kills dragons, but MK's Galaxia is sentient and can control the entire universe if it were to fall to nightmare. Kirby is literally canonically infinitely powerful, beat the creator of matter and the entire universe, infinitely power crown, a machine that can bend reality and create matter, and Morpho knight, a fused galacta knight. And you can play as meta knight to do half those things.
MK has lots of other equipment featured in smash, like his down-B the dimensional cape, which allows him to manipulate space and leave and return to reality. It's also the first thing on any of his wiki pages and part of his design? Probably important to include.

Sakurai said there were "only three" candidates that would be strong enough to survive; Bayonetta's enemies and Hades were spirits so it "wouldn't make sense" for her or Palutena to have survived. Only Kirby.
So the creator of both franchises literally said Kirby is canonically the most powerful with a clear 2nd and 3rd place within the franchise.

Marth does not beat meta knight, not even heroes Marth.
The Falchion DOES seal physical attacks yes. But that wouldn’t matter to someone as experienced as meta knight
Let’s break it down.
1. Marth isn’t faster than meta knight. Not even close. I shouldn’t need to elaborate there. Heroes scaling does even the playing field, but overall meta knight is consistently faster.
2. Grima gets HUMBLED by galacta knight. Grima is multi continental at most. Galacta knight? Is a casual planet buster. That’s been confirmed by a super computer. Even if we assume pop star is smaller than an average planet. Remmeber. Casual. Planet. Buster.
3. I will say. The physical attack seal is a thing. I’ve researched it. That checks out.
4. Darksphere doesn’t make the foe invincible. It weakens the person attacking the person wielding it. That’s blatantly incorrect information.
Edit: I forgot something else. The darksphere wouldn’t even work on meta knight. The darksphere works as a sorta passive hypnosis.
….meta knight resisted Fecto Elfilis’s mind control for a prolonged period of time. The darksphere ain’t doing shit.
5. Lifesphere to my knowledge doesn’t heal back to full(might be wrong on that) edit: I just looked it up. It heals 20 hp each turn. Another blatantly incorrect piece of info. It’s basically an infinite vulnerary, not a full heal.
6. galaxia directly attacks the soul, so even if darksphere makes him invincible, it wouldn’t matter, galaxia bypasses it
TLDR. Meta knight even fighting heroes Marth, should win.
I REALLY HOPE this doesn’t ruin fe’s legacy in the vs community. A really flawed research team SHOULDNT be the deciding factor.

@@JugularJohn That sorcerer shared a soul with, and the powers of, a literal god. A continent-sized being at his full strength who wrought a worldwide apocalypse, and unlike Rosalina, both were extremely seasoned fighters and aren't almost feat-less.
And the princes vs princess fight has a clear disclaimer at the beginning that it isn't fully researched; the verdict was just for fun as the team managed to scrape together enough resources to finish the animation but not the research behind it.

They countered this with the darksphere, which wouldn’t matter because he’s still stuck in space while meta knight can teleport back home, and his sealing abilities, which also wouldn’t matter because he can’t react to meta knight in time. They straight up admitted that meta knight would win and didn’t use counters that work, so by their own statements, meta knight still wins even if he’s weaker and has less hax than marth.

Heroes gives FE in general a massive buff. And Smash Bracket allows Heroes to be used for the FE Cast, as controversial as it is in the Vs Community outside of Heroes' original characters.

I mean, they're taking gameplay mechanics as literal as they can (Link using the deku mask to beat Ridley, Pokémon poison taking HP% instead of a set number, Mr Game & Watch ability to shape shift...) so it's no wonder FE, being a series in which negating the opponent's stats or damage altogether and turning their buffs to penalties that needs VERY specific skills to counteract, is doing so well against opponents that main strength is raw superiority in said stats

He's taking into account that Kirby and MK are 8 inches, then scaling popstar down in size to account for their possible "true" strength. I mean I guess it makes sense, trees are still accurate to their size too in Popstar, but we all know that just isn't enough to to just void all accomplishments because "the threats are just as tiny."

Just in strength and skill, they seem pretty even in combat speed (albeit MK takes it by a landslide in travel speed), Marth takes hax without issue (being able to negate or even turn MK's own hax against him), durability (Darksphere negating melee damage completely, not being able to be ko'd in a single hit and having two passive full heals after every action he takes) and equipment (Falchion and the Fire Emblem being canonically indestructible while MK Galaxia Sword being alive and sentient could prove it vulnerable to skills like lethality and his dimensional cape doesn't let him attack from that other dimension)
He actually super nerfed multiversal is easy to argue for Marth with heroes
@@marioalbertomoreno3819 I don't know man speed feels off as his max speed in his last cannon appearance was 25 plus 2 from the completed fire emblem being 27 speed that's pretty slow by FE standard and with light tomes not existing till FE 4 ( technically set in the same world cuz nagas connecting thread) marth would have no relevant feats for dodging or reacting to lightspeed attacks outside of spinoffs like warriors he would only be able to out speeds wind and thunder magics.
Then there is the dark sphere ability to negate damage seeing as the binding shield has both the dark and the light sphere on it and the light sphere disables the dark sphere in combat and that marth can still takes damage after I don't think the dark sphere is actually doing anything partly cuz I think that damage negation may have more to due with gharnefs ghost that the sphere it's self
@@blankblank6214 ok, that's MetaKnight's travel speed which in DB they would've taken it as the overall speed, here in SB travel and combat speed are taken as two separate stats, and in combat, his max speed that he has shown is comparable to Warriors Marth (which they count as canon, but that's another thing altogether)
For Marth's speed while it's true that in the games he gets the spotlight doesn't have any undoubtedly lightspeed feats, Heroes more than does (the developers consider it canon, and their word carries way more weight than the fans' or the vs community) seeing as there are ample variety of light based attacks, and while in gameplay there's no dodging mechanic, in the story bits we get in events is more than obvious that they do dodge these
And even then, skills like vantage ignore speed and gives Marth's attacks priority if the opponent attacks first.
Now the Lightsphere and Darksphere, what the Lightsphere does is protect the user from mind control and corruption while giving his attacks the capacity to surpass Invincibility statuses, while the Darksphere grants invincibility to melee damage to it's user in exchange of corrupting it's mind and soul (which considering the FE cast is able to harm ghosts and other incorporeal beings with literally sticks they found at the side of the road could also mean immunity to spiritual damage made by a melee weapon, maybe?) and a passive mind control spell to anyone who tries to attack the user to disrupt the attack, so while using them against each other, the Lightsphere nullifies the Darksphere, while using them in tandem it only prevents the Darksphere's corruption on the user
@@marioalbertomoreno3819 don't forget that the speed based damage reduction got called dodge once the status version was introduced so so the implication at least for hero's is probably they attempt to avoid the atk but still get hit But due to that they take less damage. But I've never heard anyone but sakuri say FEH is cannon and he is a Smash dev outside of the FE dev sphere for the most part and never heard anyone say warriors is cannon for any FE game mostly because how are they supposed to explain the disappearance of there militarily leader, top troops, enemy generals , advisors,and plot relevant characters and items if it's not a multi verse based game collecting non cannon versions of characters (brave Veronica as an example claims to be Veronica but not the one you know ) and it's not like fire emblem hasn't dipped into multi verses before fates eirs of fates DLC, lucinas whole plot with the outrealm gates , the fire emblem cphier card game plot, and the dragons gate of FE 7 that's cannon to 6 all imply a multi verse so I can only wonder when we say canonical marth what do we mean cuz not all Marths scale to each other as hero's demonstrated by being a gatch game with heavy power creep

Okay, I'm having a hard time understanding why a spin-off mobile game keeps being used as decisive evidence for characters.
It's effectively like using feats from Smash for characters.
It is mainline canon now as of Engage, not a spinoff
Heroes is canon because Engage made it canon. So it became fair to use for the series.
Fire emblem heroes is definitely canon to the main canon people hate it but multiversal to complex are actually where fire emblem chars scale to
The difference is that Heroes is considered a mainline canon entry in the FE series.
Smash Bros is just a multi series crossover, for fun. Heroes is considered canon for the Fire Emblem universe and people and feats within it are the same.
That said, they didn’t really use Heroes as pivotal evidence in this, they determined Marth’s power through methods other than Heroes.

It doesn't feel unreasonable to compare the Falchion to Grima since the same awakened falchion could seal him. Although if we're scaling Marth to Grima we really should be factoring in Meta Knight taking multiple blows from Kirby, which gives him just stupid durability. None of marth's stuff they mention could've been outliers though. He has several feats on that level and he could do said feats multiple times.
Also Diddy kong didn't get the moon feat cause it was a gag feat in his case. Donkey kong would've gotten it if they made his episode
@@obeserob5027 Ink has a habit of cherry picking what is or isn't an outlier. If Marth gets this consistent scaling, then Sonic gets invincibility while in super. After all, Super has very blatant feats/statements of giving him complete invincibility
@chaoscrow27 sonic did get invincibility while in super though. It just had a cap like all invincibility under bracket has.
I'd also like to point out super sonic has just as many if not more anti-feats showing he doesn't become invincible in super form

Gotta disagree with this one, I'm not really into power scaling but I don't think MK's traveling speed should be separate to how fast he can fight considering regardless he has to react while traveling. And I don't know much Fire emblem lore but I don't think defeating Grima is as impressive as cracking planets. Like Grima is gigantic and terrifying but saying destroying him is more impressive than destroying a planet is crazy.

Meta Knight was able to outrun the black hole which means Meta Knights top combat speed is at least two times faster than the speed of light, and he can also survive the black hole, so his durability is also much better than you gave him credit for

lol, I respect the hell out of the work that goes into making this series but it's clear it was always the Fire Emblem show. If the bracket went to the end the final 8 would've been six Fire Emblem guys and two of Sora/Sephiroth/Bayonetta/Shulk/Kirby

These analysis and battles are both so great! One question, since this series is stated to be ending and only the backlog being worked through, will we ever receive the answer to who *would* canonically be the strongest fighter?
If everyone would be at their strongest, it would be very much likely that Bowser with the Dream Stone and Ganondorf with the Full Triforce will have the upper hand.
Both the Triforce and the Dream Stone are capable of Granting any wish - Therefore both Relics grand them Potentially Omnipotence, though both Items seemed to have Limits, the Dream Stone was able to be destroyed by Peach and Starlow trying to prevent Bowser's Wish to destroy Mario and Luigi with their Powers of Positive Feelings.
And The Triforce can be only countered by the Master Sword since it is able to repell any evil, even Evil Entities who posess the Full Triforce.
So Link has one weapon which can potentially kill Evil Allmighty Entities, so he can kill both with his Holy Weapon despite both overpowering him by far, but only he can wield the sword, meaning if someone kills him first, this means everything would in the end end in Ganon's Favor probably.
And despite the Master Sword being able to kill any evil, it is literally only Overpowered against evil. Facing off other entities that are not evil it will basically be just a regular sword with some extra magical abilities, meaning in order to defeat the others Link has to rely on his entire Arsenal which is already Godlike on its own.
It’s either Kirby, Mario, or Sonic. But because of Smash Brackets rules it would probably be someone like Bowser

After seeing the analysis, I have to say that Marth is way more OP than I thought and has a good amount of counters to Meta Knight's options, like being able to hit Meta Knight's ghost and blocking physical damage. So this battle will entirely depend on if Meta Knight is fast enough and strong enough to one shot Marth a few times because of Miracle with a projectile. Can't wait to see the animation, I feel like Meta Knight is going to die somewhere in the fight and the ending will be a ghost versus man battle.

The good: As always, the animation is fantastic. I particularly enjoyed Marth launching Meta Knight into his own crashing ship. That was cool as shit. Also, Princess Bride references are always a pro.
The "bad": Grrr, I don't agree with the outcome of this fight. Lowkey, this feels like one of those alternate endings you did in the past where the loser wins instead lol. I admit I don't know the most about these characters, but based on the comments I read and your past version, I think Meta Knight would take it.
I think part of the discourse is driven by how many Fire Emblem fights we had and how many they won, especially in recent history (this is the 4th Fire Emblem fight in a row and they took 0 Ls in them). Probably doesn't help that Fire Emblem is taking out fighters that many casual fans see as very powerful such as Rosalina, Palutena, and now Meta Knight.

This was a better fight than most big budget fight scenes you'd see in things like modern-day Marvel. I feel like Meta Knight wins but then again I don't know too much about Marth but regardless this is still some insanely good animation.

Mario has a lot of speed feats and they make him look slow, weak and who relies in the power ups when Mario has fought against a lot of powerful enemies in BASE.
The Rosalina vs Robin and the Palutena vs Byleth are inaccurate and horrible.
Meta Knight is insanely underrated. Dude deadass speed blitzes most of the characters he’s matched up against (Zero, Marth, Riku, Shovel Knight, Link etc.)
