    This guy is one of the only competent Imperial officers ever shown onscreen. His fatal flaw was that he wasn’t a politician and constantly got outmaneuvered by Tarkin, but the grand moff got his when he got embarrassed by a tiny Rebel strike force over Yavin 4. I bet Krennic was laughing in the afterlife when he saw what became of his old rival.

He showed no hesitation in going to the data vault when he found out that intruders had infiltrated it and he successfully managed the Death Star project. Tarkin was practically in charge of the galaxy, he was more competent

    • @thegrapethief5514
      @thegrapethief5514 Год назад +116

      @@LordVader1094 yeah well Tarkin is a perfect example of having vast resources and power, but using it for either trivial things or simply to show you have them. Tarkin micromanaged so many different Imperial operations to the point that the people who are actually supposed to be in charge often being lazy or incompetent is almost justified since Tarkin actively chose to do their jobs for them, or at least the hard parts. He was in charge of a massive portion of the Galaxy and oversaw numerous imperial projects, but he dedicated his time to hunting small rebel cells (like he did in Season 1 of Rebels) and making displays of power (like he does in literally everything) instead of improving the Empire as a whole. He is VERY competent when it comes to getting things done, but he is laughably incompetent when it comes to what he decides to do. He usurped Krennic’s position purely as a political stunt when Krennic was (likely more than) half the reason the Death Star project even worked. He then destroyed an entire Imperial base containing thousands of their own troops and a very important data storage facility (we know they were there for the Death Star plans, but who knows what else may have been destroyed?) all to annihilate a measly few rebels who likely would have been captured or killed by the troops (thus also costing him the opportunity to interrogate them for information on their mission and the plans), or what was likely the true motivation, to eliminate his political rival, who also happened to know the weakness of their superweapon. Then, when the attack on the Death Star came, he refused to scramble fighters because he arrogantly believed the station was invincible (and also likely to demonstrate its capacity for self-defense, as if the Emperor wasn’t already fully on board with the project). Again, he’s very good at doing things, but he sucks at deciding what he needs to do.

    In my opinion this is the best film Disney’s made for the franchise. Krennick, Cassian and the better portrayal of the rebellion’s inner workings are done exquisitely. As well as the struggle of undertaking even the simplest of missions. They manage to make you feel every emotion under the sun, while setting up the dominance of the Death Star in episode I, introducing the military side of the conflict as separate from the Skywalker saga, and reminding the viewer that the galaxy is a massive place, with so much to lose.

      -Oh, so Deathstar 1 weakness was sabotage? Cool, so why didn't they fix it on the second one?
      -Yeah, let's give Darth Vader a cool hallway scene, wherin he uses the force.
      But have him ignore the deathstar plans, for some reason.
      -Yeah, let's just make Tarkin out to be a petty bully, and not a cool and calculated villian, as we see in episode 4.

      I agree with those points completely. Rogue One truly felt like an integral prequel to the original Star Wars trilogy, because of the stakes, Krennic being a great villain, more exposition provided regarding the Death Star and the Rebellion…
      And how vital the members of Rogue One were to the overall canon. If it hadn’t been for the sacrifices of Jyn Erso and everyone else, the Rebellion may never have triumphed over the Empire. And Rogue One’s ending ties in beautifully to the start of A New Hope as well. It’s utterly masterful. 🙂
