Today we are gonna work some magic on a vintage Mattel 90s Hula Hair Barbie and Teresa! Thrifted these a while ago and they are screaming for a make-over! Let's catch some Vitamin D and go back to the summer of 1996!

OMG Arjen! I thrifted a hula hair Teresa and was trying to fix her hair. After working and working on it for more than an hour, I finally thought to look on RUclips to see if anybody else rehabbed one of these girls.
If only I had seen your video first, I never would have tried it! 😭 I want my Sunday afternoon back...
Kanekalon isn't rehab-able, imo. I mean not for somebody like me. Obviously, yours came out fabulous! But I'm never gonna try this again. You can get Hula Hair new in box for $30, and that's what I'll do if I want one. Not try to fix up a thrifted one!

I'm really good with Kanekalon hair, but most of the time I will either flatiron it or crimp it with a crimping iron. Kanekalon is really good with heat styling tools, so if I'm going with a straight style, it's easy to flatiron it into perfection. Curly styles are more tricky, but with those I just do a wet set with hot, but not boiling water.
Ah nice! 💖 Well tbh the water I use is just REALLY hot aswell but not at boiling point anymore. But yeah, If you know how to make Kanekalon work for you, it’s amazing hair! 💖
It’s my favourite type of doll hair because of its texture and look and now I’m reading that it can handle heat styling tools?! Do you have to have the hair quiet wet while doing it or can it be done while dry?
Oh no poor Teresa that is so sad her body didn’t survive!
I think you’re so talented in restoring this incredibly difficult challenge.

First I have to say, OMG a Pink Ladies jacket?!?! I am in love… The makeovers are amazing. Hula Hair may be hard to work with but you handled it exquisitely. Teresa’s tam is terrific. AND, placing toilet paper inside her head is a sure fire way to let you give her more jaunty looks. Love, love, love this video. 👍🏻🌹👍🏻

Nice! Best way to stop head wobble that I've found is to wrap one of the clear hair elastics around the neck connecting post.
Very effective indeed, my only issue is that the head won’t really pose or turn as easy after that 😯
I tried re-rooting with kanekalon, and it was a nightmare. I gave that up pretty quickly.
I reroot with Kanekalon hair a lot, depends on which one. When I first tried I wasn't impressed but persisted and now use it all the time.
I have these two girls too! So far I cleaned up my Theresa and the boil wash did wonders! I do like the size of their flat feet 🦶 though. The new Teeny tiny feet on the yoga girls seem too small. Great job on your make overs!! 💞

I have a 90's Hula Hair Barbie in my Collection, but I'm still fixing her hair and her bangs since it's made of Kanekalon which I'm not a fan of.

I think the dolls turned out gorgeous! Yes that hair is a lot of work but it usually turns out so pretty when the spa is complete. I use a spray detangler sometimes before brushing and then add a little more after the washing and conditioner and boil rinse. It helps to tame the fly aways and keep the hair from tangling again. I have used Pantene, Suave, and Johnsons and Johnsons No More Tears brands. The Walmart brand doesn't work well. Thanks so much for sharing. I just love your videos :). :)

Kanekalon hair is my favorite! just like the barbies from the 90s are my favorites!, but yes, that hair is very delicate....and I avoid combing my dolls a lot because it cuts easily and I don't want them to be bald!..saran is more resistant to heat combing it BUT when you curl or straighten it sometimes over time it takes a different shape, kanekalon when you straighten or curl it lasts a long time! And the movement of the kanekalon hair is more natural unlike the saran that parts of hair move together and not so separated and it is less natural when you move it. I prefer kanekalon even though it is more delicate. greetings from Chile! (if my English is not good, sorry, I use google translator)

BUT there were 2 versions available this kind of body with healed feet instead of flat But with painted fingernails the best version
And What i call Angel Arms because the 1st doll i saw with those arms was bubble angel barbie .
Also the bodies you don't like were also used for college cheerleaders dolls , dolls that represent different colleges all over the US .
i have the Texas A & M cheerleader doll that came in orange & white costume .

The only thing I ever do with Kanekalon hair is wash it. It does have the ability to spring back to the original boxed style, so there’s that, but I never boil wash it now as I’ve had too many mishaps occur where the hair just shrinks under the heat. If I come across a 90s big hair doll they can be the easiest to restore if the style is just big & pouffy but anything with any styling required can be hit & miss. Give me Saran hair any day! 💇🏼♀️💇🏽♀️💇🏾♀️

These are some of the prettiest 90s Barbies! I have had barbie awhile and I just got Teresa a couple weeks ago. Christie is next on my list but they are hard and expensive to find here too. Their flat feet are something to be desired , but since they are hula girls it makes sense. I don’t like that type of hair either, but you did a wonderful job! Very cute! ❤

I have all three. Christie cost my husband a pretty penny because when I bought Teresa and Barbie she didn't show up in the boxes (I stocked them) there were four Barbie's in the boxes if I remember and two Teresa's. I kept trying to find Christie but no matter where I went, they didn't have Christie. I eventually gave up. Then my husband bought me Christie last year and helped me complete my collection. Now if I can eventually get Jewel Hair Mermaid Christie...🙂. Your dolls looked so adorable after their make overs!

The new hairstyles are really pretty the neat sections make a difference with casual evening dinner. The jointed dolls are more expressive but the straight knees have more support for the torso so this area has to be really gentle. Im starting to prefer the silkstone bodies i will try to do a surface coat on a custom body sculpt because its uv resin resin can be applied with a paint brush. I like fett that have arches too

If it had been me i'd have left them on their bodies & swimsuits and found Or made some sort of shoes for them .
then i would have gotten tinsel to recreate the skirts .
i checked and blue & gold tinsel that is long enough can be purchased online and it isn't expensive .

I've been enjoying doing makeovers on my dolls. Sucks that the thrift shops nearby have such a bad selection of dolls. There's a doll show coming up maybe I'll find some good candidates there. Really want to try hair cutting.
They look darling! I leave my earlier dolls on their original bodies...even the hobbit footed dolls.😂 I am not a fan of kenekalon. It always ends up foofy, fluffy...however you want to describe it. Love ya!❤

Love both of their looks😍Where do you get the outfits from? I have a love/hate relationship with kanekalon hair, it looks the most realistic to me but tangles so easily. I have a Hollywood hair barbie that had terrible birds nest hair right near her scalp and trying to detangle it, brushed out a large clump of her hair😞 So now I only get older used barbies if they're hair is fairly smooth. It's just too much effort otherwise. I'm an in-box collector which means never worrying about ruining their hair😄

i have a doll thats made by mattell buts its not barbie and she has hair thats goes farther down than her feet it actually drags and its red. any idea who she is ithought maybe one of her friends. i have 4 dolls with that terrible fly away always shedding hair i just braid it

I would have no idea myself! I know over time these bodies become really weak. Think it’s the elastic mechanism inside the body.. 🤔
