Your memory about Sea Holiday Barbie made me tear up too, especially since it involved a neighbour. I think adults sometimes forget the lasting impressions their interactions with kids (not just their own kids) are. Kids need us to see them and be kind to them. I was just reading an article today called, “How parents feel about feelings can deeply affect a child’s development.” It talked about how emotion-focussed parenting programs can help break generational cycles and cause lasting positive biological changes in kids’ brains. I am sure there were people who were mean to you growing up, but those positive reinforcements like the ones you mentioned probably helped you become the sweet person you are today.

What a sweet story Arjan. 💖 I think we can all relate. So many dolls I had as a kid that I would give anything to have now. My two favorite Barbie's I kept until I was 16, then one day when renovating my bedroom, we threw them out. I'd give anything to have those beautiful girls now! Someday I will find them again! 💗💗 I think that's why most of us collect....those childhood memories are so precious to us, and nothing lifts your spirit like sitting down with your barbies and reliving that wonderful feeling of the freedom and innocence of our childhoods.😊

How beautiful are these memories 😢💖
I had the first Princess Barbie, and she was really the first doll that I collected money to be able to buy it from my own pocket because my parents were not supportive of me, 😢
but I was able to collect the money and buy her . My happiness was indescribable. I was flying with joy and she lived with me. A while until the day came when my father burned all my dolls , including this doll, and my heart burned with them 💔❤️‍🔥. My heart broke into millions of pieces, and believe it or not, I still keep her dress and crown to this day. It’s survived the fire because that day she was wearing a Another dress and her dress stayed with me. I am now 46 years old and I still feel like a small child. I feel happy when I see Barbie and dolls in general. I love them very much, and how I wish my family would understand me in my childhood 💔
Now I am a dolls collector and I am very happy with them. I love them so much and will stay like this until the last day of my life 💖💪🏻💖

My childhood Holy grail is Pink n Pretty Barbie. I won her from a school raffle in the 2nd grade. They announced the winners at our school Christmas program and I was so mad that my mom wouldn't stay to the end so I could win "my" Barbie. She was convinced I wouldn't get her because I only bought one raffle ticket. But Monday morning all of my classmates came running up to me to tell me I got her. (Also the school nurse had sewn her an entire wardrobe of clothes) I really want to replace that doll someday. Thank you so much for sharing your super sweet childhood memories! The 90’s Barbies are so glamorous. The clothes were sensational. I remember buying Barbie and The Rockers for my daughter and having so much fun playing with them together. Superstar Barbie is over the moon fabulous! …. You made me cry so many times as you recollected moments and dolls from your childhood. I’m 73 and the big toy company when I was a child was Ideal Toys. One year they made a doll that was an homage to the Revlon Cosmetic Co. She was beautiful and wore a real pair of nylon stockings with a seam in the back! I got her for Christmas and played with her everyday. This was before Barbie. Thank you for sharing your wonderful memories and encouraging us to do the same. 👍🏻🌹👍🏻

That was just wonderful hearing your childhood stories about Barbie!! I am so fortunate to have my original Barbie, Ken, and Midge and the doll case from the 1960's. Poor Barbie got her bangs cut out and I almost brushed the rest of her hair bald, but last year I had her professionally restored and she is just gorgeous. Love her so much. I had two little rambunctious brothers so my dolls were my sanity and my escape world. I have since collected about 100 more Barbies mostly from the 90's because I love the Super Star Face. I love sewing and knitting clothes for them. I also clean and dress thrift Barbies to donate to children's charities. Love love love Barbie!!!

I was a 90s kid. Although my parents weren't rich, they always made sure I had one Barbie gift for xmas and birthdays. When I was extremely young, I had the 80s and 90s Mattel dolls for each Disney "princess" character.
I do remember having 3 Princess Jasmine dolls, but I was OBSESSED with Disney Pocahontas. I was a young kid with very tanned skin and super long black hair. Even though Jasmine was released first, I was uncomfortable with her standard outfit and bikini top. When the Pocahontas movie came out, I was obsessed with the character's hair and more conservative outfit. Pocahontas had more songs in her movie, so I also fell in love with her singing voice (performed by the amazing Broadway star Judy Kuhn.)
I had 4 different Pocahontas dolls, one John Smith, and one Kocoum. So when I became an adult with disposable income, re-buying my favorite Pocahontas dolls NIB was my top priority.
When it comes to the classic Barbie dolls, the SUPER STAR of my childhood was Jewel Hair Barbie. (Cue the angelic choir singing!) I still remember getting that doll for xmas and playing with her for years. I also had the Slumber Party Barbie with the soft body and the light blue outfit. I had a ton of fun with SeaWorld Trainer Barbie, because that doll came with a plastic Orca whale (I still have a lifelong obsession with marine animals especially whales and sharks.)

My first Barbie doll was Fashion Jeans Barbie from 1981. She had the pink furry tshirt and the pink boots. Eventually my younger sister and I shaved her pretty well. Since she was the oldest doll, some of her body parts really got abused. So we took her head off and put it on the body of a doll that had zero articulation (dollar store level). She became “Mama Barbie” the grandmother matriarch figure of our extensive Barbie family. My sister and I were only 5 years apart, so we were the perfect age to play out some interesting story lines with the dolls. I miss those days since she and I are somewhat estranged now that we are adults and living in separate states. I’d give anything to go back in time. ❤️

These stories are so sweet! That’s amazing that your neighbor helped you get to see holiday Barbie.
My first Barbie was Tropical Miko, and I just bought her from eBay in the box for $26! You bet I’m going to unbox her, and add her to my daughters collection.
My favorite Barbie from my childhood though was absolutely Cool Tops Skipper. The late 80s early 90s skippers had the most mesmerizing eye paintings, I would stare into them forever.
I also had a Hawaiian Fun skipper that had a “Z” design in her eyeballs, And a fun time workout skipper with Super curly hair and sea foam green eyes. To this day I find the “anime eyes” Skippers and Courtney’s so intriguing.
Always wanted to Courtney, but they never sold them at our local Ben Franklin. Not only did I think they were cuter, but I always liked Courtney‘s clothes better than skippers.
I just bought a Cool Crimp Courtney, and Sweetheart Skipper, but out of the box but in good shape.
When I was in kindergarten I really wanted a Barbie in the rockers Barbie for Christmas. I didn’t get it and I was heartbroken. Thinking back, I don’t know if they were still making Barbie and the Rockers in 1988.
I also really wanted Wedding Day Midge. I loved her purple polkadot blazer skirt that came with the outfit.

For me, the Barbie Rewind series came out at just the right time to allow me to capture many childhood memories in relatively few dolls. I have none of my 70s and 80s dolls anymore, so being able to capture various themes of the 80s like aerobics, women in corporate jobs, shopping at the mall, etc. in brand new dolls was fantastic. I particularly liked the P.J. doll because I loved my Sweet Roses P.J. as a kid. She was the first brunette doll I had, and it meant a lot to me that she looked a bit like me. The thing about getting an original doll is that after forty years most of the dolls are not in great condition, and I don't really want to be reminded that I'm that old! I'll go for the reproductions. 😀

I went through a point in my collecting journey where I rebought all of my childhood dolls. And...I ended up with multiples of pretty much all of them. I still have my original dolls from about 1983 onward, many of which are in perfect condition still, but the earlier dolls were the victims of my earliest attempts at 'creativity', and ended up being parted out and discarded over time. I do still wish I had the parts from my early childhood dolls, I now have the skills to fix all of my attempts at making them prettier. I know during my childhood I went through THREE 1980 Beauty Secrets Barbie dolls. I just could not resist cutting that gorgeous hair. Now of course I have like 8 of them or something. 😆 And that's not even the record of the doll I have the most multiples of. I have at least ten or eleven 1981 Golden Dream Barbie dolls, and over thirty 1977 SuperStar Barbie dolls. Yes, I have a problem. 😁

Omg, my very first Barbie was the Cut and Style redhead! I remember being like 5 and seeing her on my mother's vanity. She was a complete mess though lol. Dirty, hair matted with a ponytail holder stuck in it, naked and only wearing her necklace and pink molded on panties. I didn't care though cause I thought she was the most beautiful thing I'd ever laid my eyes on. My mom let me have her and she instantly became my favorite doll! Sadly, I cut her hair off to her shoulders right after my grandmother fixed it because I thought she would grow new hair. Unfortunately the hair never grew back and her head snapped off shortly afterwards 💔
I loved her though and always thought she looked like my mom with the red Auburn hair and red lips. Now I have three of her, one of which I completely rerooted! It's funny though, I always wondered what the velcro patch in the back of her head was for lol! Anyway, thanks for sharing your stories, I loved hearing them and I hope you get all your childhood dolls back soon! Ttyl ~Amber

I remember that my first "Barbie" was actually a vintage Barbie "clone" doll that had a bubble cut wig. In retrospect, I think she was Fashion Queen clone. I don't even know where my mother go the doll. But I loved her and my mother made an entire wardrobe for her! I have no idea what I did with the doll. Hey Arjan! This video took me back in the day. I never had a Barbie as a child but i used to live with my cousin as a kid in Venezuela and she had Barbies that we played together with, I wasn't as lucky as you, so I had to play with them in hiding. Last year, I finally decided to collect Barbies and be more open with everyone about the things that I like without the fear of being judged. I could see that you also had Glitter Beach, My First Ballerina and My First Princess Barbies, my cousin had them, but TBH she was not that much into Barbies she always preferred playing ball, she was very tomboyish. My aunt (my cousin's mom) when she saw I was collecting Barbies and I had my own TikTok and Instagram channel where I show my dolls gave me those dolls (bless her heart) we don't know what happened with My First Princess Barbie, but now I have with me My First Ballerina Barbie and Glitter Beach and others with me. This is video is very meaningful, I know how it is to recall those days. Thanks so much for this.

The very first Barbie I had was Titan Bubble cut Barbie, I was five and I still have her. The ONLY doll I didn't get rid of when people told me I needed to "grow up" I was to old to have them. I've been able to get some of my old Barbie's back, like the Ballerina Barbie, and the original twist and turn Barbie. I was able to get back my first Skipper (in the red and white swimsuit) and a Tutti doll. Your story brought back a lot of fond memories when my mom would make my Barbie clothes. She couldn't afford to buy clothes so she made all of them for me. I had some rattan doll furniture too that I need to find and replace. Especially the one shaped like a peacocks tail. Those were always my garden furniture.🙂. I'd also like to find the 1962 Barbie Austin Healey. It was given to me at Christmas and I can't tell you how often my Barbie went for a "trip" in the country in it. 🙂 I always needed to be washed. LOL

Arjan, I hope that you're doing well. Thank you so very much for making these videos. I love your channel. I am finally able to start my collection. When I was a little boy I wanted dolls so badly, but sadly, i was only allowed boy toys. Tonka trucks, racing cars, basketball, soccer ball, etc. One day, we were going to my cousin's house for dinner. I brought my yellow Tonka pick up truck and legos. I snuck into my cousin's bedroom while the adults were chatting and the kids were all outside playing. I gathered up all her Barbies and their clothes and put them in my Tonka. I built a runway out of my legos. I turned on a lamp and laid it sideways for a spotlight. I sang songs and proceeded to have a fashion show with her Barbies. Time flew by and soon it was time for dinner. I went downstairs but not before putting everything back to where they were in my cousin's room. I was hooked. That Christmas I got some modeling clay. All I wanted to make were high heeled shoes. Fast forward to the present. I am now married to a wonderful man who supports my love for dolls. I am now allowing that little boy in me flourish and enjoy his collection of Barbies and other dolls for now I feel very safe and secure. I just thought I'd share.

i was born in 2000 and i have a memory of a very specific barbie doll which i think was my first ''favorite'' barbie doll. she had blonde-dirty hair, with little bangs and a big bun and articulation on her knees. her head broke off at some point but it was ''fixed'' but she really had no neck and i didn't move her head because of it. i also remember her having a baby blue dress, with the lenght around her tighs and very thin shoulder straps, although i don't know if this was her original outfit. i don't really know what happened to her, i just know that i don't have her (or the dress) anymore, and i still have pretty much all of my childhood barbies. still, it's a good memory

They were holy grail barbies for me and so very hard to find cheap!!!! I just recently started selling all my 80's and 90's playsets. I just don't have the room 😢. I do however still have a lot of the Pretty Roses furniture sets! Those are a must have...all the detail is amazing. I will never sell them! I also have that huge barbie yacht currently sitting on the floor in my office 😅! I have no idea what I'm going to do with it, probably sell it. I also had a pink barbie camper as a kid, it didn't survive unfortunately. I use to tow it behind my bike with a rope, up and down the road. It didn't stand a chance, lol. I kept all the accessories though! I have since bought it again and that too hangs out in the office, haha. Arjen, my God, what a touching story🤧💖. Thank you for sharing your story with us, not many bloggers share such things with their followers🙈. My first Barbie and my sister's Barbie appeared with us in 1995 for my birthday😍, by the way, they are still with us today☺ although the hair of our dolls has deteriorated, because once my sister and I decided to bathe our dolls and their hair turned into into some incomprehensible washcloth😭 (now we want to restore them, or rather flash their heads). And my sister and I thought all our lives that we had a real Barbie, but the girls from our Russian community said that we didn’t have Barbie, but Betty or Cindy/Sandy🤔 but I looked at the photos on the Internet and lean towards Betty, It’s a pity that you can’t post photos in the comments, I would show my doll😭
p.s. I'm sorry if there are errors in the message, my English is too bad...

As a child I had a Naomi Campbell doll by Simba, which I could re-collect in amazing condition. I think she was part of the Sindy line, but kind of in a spin-off line having three irl super models. I loved her and carried her everywhere with me. And now she is standing on my shelf

It’s awesome to read that your mom did everything she could to get the things you wanted 🩷 I mean, bless this woman!! 🙌🏻✨ 90s Disney era is just PURE MAGIC, those dolls were sooooo pretty no matter which one! I also had a pocahontas and her hair was so pretty!
The Valentine’s day Girl shouldn’t be too much trouble to ID.. There are a lot of specialists out there so I hope someone can help!! 🙏🏻🩷🥹

It was so sweet story!💓 Remind me my childhood. I also grown up in the 90's. Then I had only one Barbie doll - the Butterfly princess from 1994🦋 and had a Barbie Jornal from the same year with her on the cover. When mom buys me this doll, I was the happiest boy on earth.🥰 After so many years, I still have her in my collection. Only now she has "carre" hairstyle, because her hair was in bad condition after so many play💇. I remember first Barbie I saw, was in the first class, when one girl came with Fountain mermaid Barbie🧜, and I was completely inlove in this doll. Last year I even found a drawing of her, made by me then🖍️. But my childhoods dream was a Working out Barbie with her movable body.😍 I wanted to buy her, and long time I saved money, but when I already have enough, she was sold out. 😕So now, like adult, when I started collecting, she was the first Barbie I bought. ☺️

I still wish I had the Barbie and Baby Chrissy mermaid dolls they released in early 2000.
The entire Mermaidia dolls they released in 2006, including the European exclusive dolls. Alina was the only one I didn’t care for from this series.
The Fairytopia Lumina mini doll playset.
    The Azura doll from Fairytopia.

I feel like Mattel used to make commercials for every single doll / doll line and not just for the Barbie brand. But now there barely are commercials like seriously 🤨
