beautiful. my old friend crashed and flipped my galant :( so i browse around and look at galants for the nostalgia. man.. id give anything to have it back.
@@gutterrashautomotive3361 that’s cause we hardly have any jdm only cars here at all and the ones we do have are your basic Supra’s , rx7’s , integras, etc.
These also have multilink short-long-arm double wishbone suspension front and I think also rear. Very significant considering the platform and transverse V6! Not even FTO's have it which is a shame. Evos of course don't since they needed the longer stroke for off-road, and to save weight.
I'm not sure on the specifics but fully independent all round, though I think some cheap USDM specs may not. If you don't have 4WS like mine they still have passive 4WS with rear wheel toe changes under pressure to give agility
@@psions555 by 4WS do you mean AYC torque vectoring? 3000GT/GTO's are the only Mitsubishis I am aware of to have 4WS/RWS. Base model FWD Galants and Legnums of the same generation (7G) have the same front & rear suspension as theot respective VR4 models. I checked more closely after my original comment above and can confirm both front & rear are SLA double wishbone (and subsequently independent of course). Admittedly they aren't exactly optimal designs due to to the room constraints but still better than typical MacPherson Strut design on tarmac applications.
@@kekethetoad no I just worded poorly, I was referring to 4ws but as you say us Galant and Legnum owners don't get that but we do fortunately have this passive rear steer effect instead. I love this kind of setup, I think packaging constraints and crash safety is why double wishbone setups became hard to find. I enjoyed my Honda Civic for the same reason
Type V also means light weight version. Why want ayc? Its more raw without and you can powerslide/drift thru the corner. I went for Type V intentionally. And I've heard about people taking off their AYC to go without.
It's weird seeing the V6 crammed in there, I have a 2.4 GDI 4 cyl and I could practically climb into the engine bay with it 😂 plenty of room for repair
Personally I'd rather forgo a sub & maybe lose a little weight elsewhere to have the AYC. Just seems like too much of a good addition to 8g Galant/Legnum, with their longer wheelbase and weight impeding turn-in. Are the bonnets aluminium?
@@gutterrashautomotive3361 same I'm in Wellington 😂 my vr4 is pretty rough condition but in trying to restore. Currently just finishing manual conversion. Then need to get ayc serviced cause it only works every now and then 😑
Great car mate. I want an EC5A VR4 myself too. They just became legal for importing to United States. Seems like they are already sold out at the moment.
8gen: VR4 comes with the 6A13TT (206kw) instead of 4G93 (~100 kW), awd, and bodykit. It's got a few little extras like the hi-vis cluster, ayc, fender flares etc if Type-S. Almost a completely different car
Thanks man. I should've specified but here in Australia we use kW not hp. Based on a few tuning results from TME Motorsport a stock 6A13TT with factory tune running 7psi makes around 120-130 kW on their dyno. I'm being a little conservative when I say 150 but it's not far off I reckon (for now 😉)
@@gutterrashautomotive3361 my bad lol, yup 7psi, I'm currently run that stock 7psi until I get it tuned but gonna do a water meth kit for safty before I get it tuned to 14psi, alot of guys in my country also run a big single turbo [t3t4] 63 or 83 backend on custom intake manifolds making 400whp with just evo 550cc injectors and a arp head studs kit
@@vr4tt868 oh nice! What other supporting mods will you be doing for 14 psi? Ah yeah single turbo would be awesome, those manifolds don't look cheap though lol
@@gutterrashautomotive3361 those manis definitely aren't cheap lol. I believe that's basically it. Note: the water meth is not really for power but more for safety, we tune without it, then add a few degrees of timing with it because if it happens to malfunction, you dont grenade your engine, head studs might not be a bad idea as a safty, I've read some guys lifted heada running 14psi, but like I've said, I've just read that, never seen it happen

I love the galant VR-4s too a long time. perfect design. japanese build quality and ingenuity (and I´m from germany 😁)
I’m a New Zealander and moved to Australia in 2019 the car seen here is nothing compared to back home in NZ
They are always telling me to dream big, but my biggest dream is to have and own one of those cars
Very attainable! These are cheap compared to other Japanese turbo cars.

Yeah definitely slept on, they'll never be held in league with the evo/skyline/supra/rx7 etc but that keeps the prices nice and low
That's a really nice example you've got there. I've also got the exact same model lol
