The magnetic compass should be the first Mod that some user community developer comes up with or DCS will actually release after they updated the Gau 8 sound.. lol... great update and nice to see Mover and Wags flying.
@50 Stitches: Every time I see HUD footage from real jets, there is a black box in the top left hand corner, over the witness cue. Why is that?

When you have the TPG pointed at your target you need to TMS up to set that point as SPI before trying to slave the maverick to it. Otherwise your SPI might still be were you set it with the head mounted sight or could be the steer point or something and your maverick is trying to head off towards that instead. The frustration is real when its not quite doing what you want but so satisfying when you have it sorted out and it just works.
I practiced to always TMS up short to get into the right track mode on the target and TMS up long after that to make it SPI while I'm at it. So basically you double tap the thing forward and hold it there for a while on the second tap mostly.
There are also a couple, very useful intermediate techniques with target management if you utilise markpoints as well. Let's say you have different static targets next to each other and you want to kill them in a single pass. You can set them up and make sure that you can easily cycle through the targets while making the TGP snap between targets instantly.
You go TMS right short to create markpoints (with the pod on the targets obviously), set the leftmost switch next to the CDU to markpoint (this will set your steerpoint to markpoints), go TMS aft long, which will set SPI to steerpoint and you go china fwd long to slave all to SPI and now you're pretty much set up. Now you can go coolie up to make the HUD SOI and DMS forward/aft will cycle between the markpoints and the TGP will snap to each markpoint.
If you're using Mavericks for example, you can set this up in orbit and once you roll in, all you need to do is slave the first Maverick to the SPI with china fwd long, make Mav SOI, TMS fwd short to track and shoot. Then you go HUD SOI, DMS to cycle to the next markpoint (the TGP will automatically snap there), go back to the Mav screen, china fwd long again, TMS up again, and rinse repeat. You can obviously use this with JDAMs as well and it would work even better. Even if you don't want to make multiple launches in a single pass, using these markpoints will be incredibly useful, since you will not really have to slew the pod if you're dealing with static targets.
Another cool feature is using the last mark SPI with TMS right long, which can be used if you have the waypoints as steerpoint and use the slave to SPI function as you're slewing the pod. You see one target, make a markpoint, find another, more important target that you kill right away. Then you don't have to slew the pod back and you don't have to set the markpoints as steerpoints, you can just go TMS right long to make the last markpoint SPI, china FWD long to slave all to SPI and you have your pod showing you the target in a very elegant way.

Great info for those who didn't know yet. Instead of SOIing the HUD you can also use the leftmost rocker switch on the UFC which might be quicker if you have it mapped somewhere in handy. Also, "go TMS left long, which will set SPI to steerpoint", that was TMS aft long there. TMS left long is SPI broadcast all across the board.

I use voice command to cycle through the markpoints: "STEER UP" voice command is set up to go to the next markpoint, that 's even quicker.

I think at 12:27 when the TGP goes completely black is a game bug relating to the TGP's FLIR gain, where an explosion is thought to be extremely bright, causing the TGP gain to go extremely low. I often experienced that as well, and solved it by switching to CCD after an explosion
Glad i'm not the only one who has this issue.. Switching to ccd seems to be the only way to fix it.
I usually just max zoom out and the gain clears up and let's me find a new target. It's something the TGP has done for years now on the A-10C.
@@austin2725 I like to get all zoomed in to watch the explosions up close but the CCD tends to be washed out for me in VR. (no biggie) Any idea what's up with replay tracks? None of my replays are ever accurate.
Interesting. I'm unable to get this in pancake mode, but in VR it makes me struggle with the TGP big time in both the A-10C II and the Viper.

It's funny that some will see a pilot struggling with all the buttons but the flying and smoothness of the turns is unreal.

What an amazing weapons platform. They sure have made it easy for this thing to kill stuff on the ground and that's why it's going to be around for a long time.
The avionics upgrades, data link and HMD makes an already cool aircraft insanely awesome. I hope Congress can keep funding the Warthog for the foreseeable future. The jet is not meant for a day 1 high threat environment but once air defences have been sufficiently degraded there is still a place for a jet with low speed loiter and a BFG GAU-8.
The Air Force has announced it will be in service until at least the year 2030.

Just got into DCS. I’m so floored by the detailed sims. The A10 is my jam. Super hard to find a good hotas right now so I’m keyboard and mouse until my hotas comes in and makes everything better

For max performance turns I just tweak my Pitch axis saturation until full aft doesn't stall her out anymore lol, works great for performing as many passes on a target area as you can as quickly as possible.
I dont have the C version yet, but I imagine it's engines are underpowered compared to the real thing like the A version is. Clean wings with less than 20% fuel and still struggles to hit 330knots
You should do this more often, mover his questions are triggering my memory. Waggs reply smashed the questions. His normal explanations vids are focusing on e specific feature, this is way beter
You should try vtol vr. Not by any means close to dcs but it’s better for the general public with still having a mildly steep learning curve.
Definately! I like how that guy made it possible to fly well enough without a dedicated HOTAS by just using the VR controllers. It just works, and it's fun.

Half the time you did not make a SPI at the area you wanted. Thats why the Tpod just slewed far away. Its TMS up long to make SPI.
After being basically restricted to flying il2 in VR mode with my Rift S for the past year I am now ready to plow past and beyond it now that I've relegated our i7-6700, gtx1660 Ti, 32gb 2133 spd Ram and ssd/hdd drives to my wife's gaming rig and moved up to an i7-10700K, rtx 2070 Super, 32gb Corsair Vengeance 3200 spd ram, nvme 500gb boot drive and bought a 2tb Adata Nvme drive for backup and some games with larger storage drive attached.
Hopefully I'll be set but it sounds like there's plenty to be done in order to get VR optimized still.
Now I can begin to learn from the start! I bought the F-18C Hornet and Super Carrier modules to start. Really want A10C II new version and possibly a couple ww2 ac and mission modules. Will see how it goes.

@@CWLemoine Noticed you had some trouble getting Mavs to slave to your target that you had on the TPOD. If you look on the left-hand side of your HUD, at the bottom it will tell you what your SPI is. Looks like you had HMCS as your SPI, not the TPOD which is why it was slaving to where your HMCS' SPI was. If you have the TPOD as SOI, press TMS long FWD and it will change your TPOD to SPI and the Maverick will then slave to where that is when you go china hat fwd long.
I have no idea if this is realistic behavior or a DCS quirk but the screen will go black/white in IR mode after a hit if you are zoomed in really close, zoom out or switch to TV and you'll be able to see again. I guess it makes sense with the thermals going nuts but it feels a bit exaggerated in because you have to zoom waaay tf out to regain vis.
At least 6 MANPAD operators disliked this video.

12:23 Finally I see someone else having that issue with the TGP going black after an impact. Having this in DCS for a while now, seen in both F-16 and A-10C II, but others weren't able to reproduce it yet. Also, looking at the general area where the impact happened, the contrasts are very lacking when the TGP does show something at all, and it's extremely washed out, as seen at 13:12 when you zoom the thing in and at 17:54 when you zoom out and then in again. 18:34 has the black screen again, followed by the washed out image. I agree it looks cool to some extennt, but usually it makes seeing things impossible the way it is right now. 24:58 does show it as well. This is a massive issue for me ATM and it only happens in VR. All this does not happen at all in pancake mode.

22:42 You could went for a right hand turn to get the target into your right hemisphere at that point, which is indicated by "GIMBAL ROLL>". If you have the SPI around there, boresighting and reslaving is usually the quicker way though.
Glad to see you having some fun with the thing. Especially the APKWS. Great module and the upgrade is worth it so much. Absolutely a no-brainer for anyone who hasn't picked it up yet.
I always assumed it was because of overexposure - the FLIR is looking in thermal IR, and you just made that whole area very hot, so it can't handle the image - like pointing a camera at the sun.
@@henrikoldcorn That would be a good explanation, but I guess these things aren't that oversensitive that it even is like that after a good while - and it doesn't happen always anyway, so it's not perfectly reproducable.

So I have a question about DCS it seem like you have to be a pilot pretty much to to play this ? For some one like me who has always been fascinated by naval aviation but never had the opportunity to be a naval aviator would it be a hard game to learn how to use?
