I remember back when I played this on a CRT in 2010 I would download the world record ghosts and watch the replays and see the crazy shortcuts, tricks, and glitches they would do. Especially the Mushroom Gorge one where you climb up the wall and go behind the finish line, that one was really mind blowing. NMeade had the world record on Maple Treeway so I knew about him long before I saw videos on Troy's channel that he was in. There were also those hacked ghosts with impossible times and when you watched the replay they would run into walls everywhere and fall off the track which was hilarious.

The lake skip glitch was patched in Mario Kart 8 deluxe, but it's not completely useless. Falling into the lake will respawn you past the curve. It's still slower than taking the turn normally, but if you're about to get zapped or blue shelled then you should go for it.

i pulled off number 2 in an online race the first time i ever tried it. Never been able to do it ever since.
you need to be able to control the suns rays to affect your console at perfect times to do these, very easy once you get the hang of it
