Lovely idea for a video, I too made Drew's designs in my callow youth. You missed an opportunity to turn them on and demo the differences, that would have made a nostalgic and educational video. Oh well... BTW Drew is on 160m AM weekdays almost without fail in Melbourne, I listen in from time to time.
hi mark i like the island manhatten construction to your 80 mtr rx still use this method today its still very flexable you can add circuits unlike pcb,s where you are stuck with the circuit and unable to do any mods still got the qrp handbook by doug mcdrew jim g0wmj
I think there used to be a copper island construction kit available at the time - long gone now though. I guess you can make your own pads if you have the patients! Thanks for the feedback; that RX is still working well.
It does, yes, but it sounds exactly like the other one except for the drift!!!! My point was that its great to be building radio stuff in this day and age - fancy DDS VFOs and TFT displays - all for a few bucks, isnt it great?
@@MarkG0MGX Yes I agree that there is still kits out there. I really miss the Heath Kit days. When you built your own radios, like now, you know the in and outs of the radio and if it stopped working you can fix it your self. That was the purpose of the hobby. Now days it is most the antenna build. If your radio breaks down, most of hams now just take it to the shop to get it fixed or just buy a new one.
@@user-mt2qn4yp8w ain’t that the truth. I’ve been a ham for 9 years and I’ve built keys, antennas, and tuners, my next project is a DC receiver and I’m having a time trying to figure out how to build the local oscillator and the mixer. Honestly, still not sure what I’m doing.
Amazing you still have that old receiver from the 1980's. Thanks for sharing.

Thank you for sharing that.
Nice Mark. Congrats.
Pretty cool, please plug it in and turn it on! 73 OM
Thanks for the info re inductors and wire size... 👍

Interesting build. Your soldering wasn't bad. Next question, does it still work? 73 Clark KG7LOI
