It is really best to do the progression in Amira's career. All 3 of the HGT appearances are great (for a 9 year old): 'O Mio Babbino Caro'; 'Ave Maria'; and finale 'Nessun Dorma''. Andre Rieu's guest appearance getting a standing ovation by the 15,000 audience was only 6 months later, but she had turned 10 by then. Then at 12 years old she appeared in the Classics is Groot concerts in South Africa singing 'O Mio Babbino Caro' and the duet with Patricio 'O Sole Mio'. The next year she sang 'Amazing Grace' and 'Gabriellas Song' (in Swedish). I think it was also that year she appeared in concert and did an amazing cover of 'Barcelona' with Ruhan du Toit (best example of her ability). The 'Flower Duet' is also around that time. You will notice that all of her best performances are live on stage, with a full orchestra, and chorus. A truly gifted child who has matured into an outstanding singer who really loves singing opera.

I'm glad you have gone back to this audition. This was on August 31, 2013. To put it into perspective, you really need to watch the first part of this documentary: ruclips.net/video/cRfdtTR_GMI/видео.html . which shows that had asked her parents to be allowed to enter HGT when she was 7; they said, "ask us again when you are 8" - but Amira did not forget; she did ask again, and was told, "when you are 9, the world will be at your feet". So, when she was 9, they gave in, and she surprised everybody. Also, the rules of Holland's Got Talent limited the performances to 2.5 minutes; so the song was somewhat clipped to fit. She made an error in her breathing, obviously a result of her lack of tuition at this audition. She got a "Master class" from Andre Rieu on December 7, 2013, at which he corrected that error, and she won the competition in December 2013, singing "Nessun Dorma" from "Turandot". She got a singing coach in January 2014,and recorded her first album in February. She also won a cross-country race in Holland, in her age group, for the second time, a few days after the finals of HGT. So her breathing had considerably improved by the time she performed with Andre Rieu in July, 2014. Her early fascination with opera has not left her, but she has sung a variety of songs - but her performance of the Flower Duet with Corlea Botha in 2017 showed that she had not forgotten it. Both The Netherlands and South Africa impose strict restrictions on the number of public appearances a minor is allowed - and that includes interviews. So she has not abused her voice.

So the unrest in Durban and Joburg did not spread to where Amira lives; evidently it was engineered in an attempt to unseat the Ramphosa government, but it may have backfired. I hope it holds for another 18 months, so she can finish her schooling.

Love your knowledge!!. Valerie, you’ve done it now! You’ve started at the beginning of Amira’s journey ,:so hang on, & go all the distance . Amira’s next performance was at the invitation of that world renown conductor/musician Andre Rieu for her to perform at Maastricht to an audience of 15,000 , who rose as one to give her a standing ovation. She again sang O Mio Babbino Caro, & although it was only a short time after her Talent win, the improvement is mind blowing.
I’ll also suggest ( I’m sure I’ve already mentioned this one ) Ave Maria by Gomez at the Canisius Church. This in my opinion is one of her most outstanding performances. Although the audio has some echo, it doesn’t take away from her magnificent performance. The feelings & the emotion she portrays is something else. I’ve never seen anyone give such an emotional rendition.
    Cheers, Graeme.

So again, thanks for this great reaction!
As a suggestion for other reactions, I would love to see you react to another young soprano, although older than Amira, Patricia Janeckova who has a number of great performances on RUclips. There is a group of Rossini arias, L'Orgia, La Pastorella delle Alpi, and La Danza, plus Fruhlingstimmen by Strauss, plus Mein Herr Marquis and Les Oiseaux dans la charmille (the Doll's Aria). Thank you.

Yeah, it took her a while to develop the proper breath control.
Also, she was really looking for something to do with her famil: they all were making mesic in one way or another, and she was selling cookies to do something. So she thought she'd sing.
The point is, when she won, she was most probably the most surprised person in the room.

@@VocalSplendorStudios Valerie, this may sound a little crazy to you but now you should react to Amira singing the same aria, O Mio Babbino Caro. This performance took place about 7 months after Amira winning HGT. In the interim she recorded and album and had a master class with Andre. When recording her album she worked with and excellent voice coach. This is worth watching just to see the incredible change that took place with a few weeks of coaching.
She performed just the one aria on Friday and Saturday Night. She wasn't on the program it was just a surprise to the audience. .........ruclips.net/video/s9PQ7qPkluM/видео.html
She performed in front of 15,000 people and received a standing ovation with and left most of the audience in tears. This is considered one of the most amazing performances by a ten year old in history. You really see Amira love of the music.
The performance was so incredible she was sited in a study of resonance in professional opera singers as and incredible example of the production of resonance in the voice. The authors were just astounded by her ability. You will have to stop the video several times to avoid copyright problems.
This really demonstrates your point about coaching. It hard to believe she would improve so much in just a few months. She is so comfortable on stage, she loves the music and feels it so much she is fearless on stage and just feeds off of the audiences' energy. The performance has over 50 million views and still growing at close 1to a million new viewers a month. Read some of the comments at how emotional the performance is for the audience.
Your description of Amira is right on target, she is and incredibly grounded young women who sings because she loves the music and lives to sing. No affectation of any kind she just loses herself in the music.
I really enjoy your reactions. You are one of the very best on you tube.

Wise words. In the semi finals of the talent show she sang an Ave Maria. She performed well despite recovering from a cold which had limited her rehearsal. In the final she sang Nessun Dorma beautifully, she really got into the zone closing her eyes and feeling the music.
Her rendition of Ave Maria ( by Gomez) at the Canisius church Christmas concert is also stupendous. You can see her downloading the music from a different sphere. It's quite incredible. Only 11 at the time.

Maria Callas does a splendid rendition. Amira will gain this with experience and life's trials. She does a wonderful job for being untrained.

Great reaction. Since Amira went through HGT, she avoided the worst negatives of the AGT and BGT franchises. I remember when Amira won HGT, there was no recognition of her existence from the Cowell controlled programs for several years. I appreciate your concerns about the possibilities of young children being taken advantage of if their voice-care is not a priority off those managing their development. From 2113 through 2116-2117, I wondered whether the training was centered on immediate or long range outcomes. I believe that the focus of her managers is more focused on long range issues.

I always like to come back to this performance of Amira, this is where it all started. One of her greatest attributes, besides her beautiful/heavenly voice, is her 'calm' appearance on stage. However, at the 2:16 time on this performance, you will see the ONLY time onstage that she appears apprehensive or nervous, while she is waiting for the music to start. She has matured into a wonderful person, and has maintained to develop and mature her voice. In my opinion, ALL of her best performances are on the grand stage, with an orchestra and chorus with her. An amazing talent.

The great opera performers have the ability to get inside a song. To people who aren't familiar with opera they think of singing. But it's singing a story. The singers are also characters in a story. So to really sell an aria you have to become the character then the song comes from within. To feel the emotion of a song like she does here at her age is remarkable. In this aria the girl is saying that if she can't be with the one she loves she will throw herself off cliffs of the Ponte Vecchio and kill herself. I doubt Amira knows the meaning of the lyrics but she feels the emotion on some instinctive level that cuts to the heart and soul of this aria. Great video and it's always wonderful to see a new talent for the first time in all its innocence.

One of my favorite singers who was born in 1998 and won Talent Mania in 2010 at age 12 is Patricia Janeckova. Her training has been very deliberate and measured. She was great at 12 or so and was awarded 1st Prize in 2016 in the XIV Sacred Music In. Competition. She is now 23. If you sample her progress over over 11 years of performances, I'd be interested in reading or hearing your assessment of her preparation. I don't think she has given enough credit for this 9 years old girl quality and ability. I bet you, this voice teacher can't even get near to Amira level when she was 9 years old.

That's a big assumption when you know nothing about me. My Swedish grandmother sang opera and I copied her as a young child around three or four. All the ladies at our church were surprised by my opera voice. And I did end up becoming an opera singer.

Dear lady, you are the second American who wonders from the joke about earplugs. It's sarcastic humour common for Germanic areas of Europe. This joke was tender just for such a kid and she got it without any problem. I warmly welcome you to the weird but funny world of cultural differences. 👏😜

From what I've been able to gather is that Gordon considers himself a comedian and Amira calms that Gordon was her favorite judge. So, that said, I think that's why Amira was so willing to ignore the "earplug" joke.

You don’t like Simon Cowell? Take a number.
It is nice that RUclips allows the possibility of becoming successful without selling your soul and future, completely. That fact and reaction channels, like yours, are the two best aspects of the monolithic monster.

I agree about opera not being for children as they haven't developed the emotional depth required to interpret it correctly. However, Amira has a beautiful voice but it's a shame she didn't learn the lyrics correctly.

Check out this interview, I think that you won’t just simply like it, but be impressed by it, and in some many different ways any for many different reasons. The ending sentence (followed by her Breaking the 4th wall) is enchanting, to say the least. You must also watch her Ave Maria (her 2nd performance and my favourite version of this song). Her final performance is also fantastic and I also think was her best. You can really see the massive improvements, since she had lessons. ruclips.net/video/UJ3u5w9NYjQ/видео.html

You mentioned her parents taking her to South Africa. I believe her parents were already divorced during this performance.
You also downplayed her not having a voice coach. I believe that her learning this song and her extraordinary performance of it while being self taught is testiment to her potential of a career as one of the all time great Opera Singers. She did get a voice coach soon after this performance and I hope it is a good one. If so, we'll be blessed with hearing this young Lady sing for decades!
Simply put, Amira has Re-ignited my interest in Opera with her beautiful singing. I never tire of watching her and hearing her beautiful voice. I look forward to watching and listening to Amira mature and grow into one of the Greatest Opera Singers of all time!
As a final note, appreciate your review of Amira but it would've been nicer if you minimized yourself into the corner during the performance rather than Amira.

Thank you, glad you appreciate Amira’s outstanding technique. Something strange: large, older women with rich voices singing the roles of young girls, such as in the song OMBC, does not trouble opera lovers, but when a young girl sings the song, much nearer to the female protagonist in years, appearance, and sound, the opera lover decides that old age must voice the emotions of the very young. To my ear the heavy tone of the divas just sound wrong for a song written for the character of a young , mischievous girl with a girlish affection for a handsome youth trying to manipulate her dad by threatening suicide [VERY adolescent behaviour.] People did not have a choice in previous ages, mature women sang everything, but in the technological age it just looks and sounds wrong when an adult woman who should know better, sings an aria composed for an adolescent young girl.

14:00 training... IMO, the Rock and Roll revolution in the 1950's was much about "natural" vs "trained" voice singers. People were tired of all singers sounding the same, because they were taught the same, using opera techniques and methods. I think that Elvis's voice was degraded by the training he took in his late career. Had his training been more about stamina, posture, breathing, i.e. the physical aspects of singing, IMO he would have been a better singer. Instead, they tried to prepare him for the Met with forced vibrato, etc., where he did not belong. I have spoken, Let it be...LOL

She is in two places at one time. She teaches at Quakertown School District in Quakerton, Pa and she is traveling with her Uncle Phil Keil,St. Phillip the Apostkle as her dad and her cousin, who is her brother,a real angel.

When you mentioned weight loss I thought of Maria Callas for the mother made her eat to get fat like what a opera singer was supposed to be but she was just mediocre then I think she kinda rebelled against her mother I think it was and lost a bunch of weight which changed her voice and became a overnight superstar. But then as you know hahaha be careful what you wish for

She had a few mispronunciations, such as not saying "ci" properly and a couple others I'd have to listen to it again, but she was self-taught. I think she stumbled on the "che", but not totally. However, you need to listen to spoken Italian to be able to sing it. Dante is good to listen to while reading the Italian text. Italian films can help.

Duet with Coralee Botha, “Flower Duet” is fantastic. You sound wise, but some voice coaches can ruin singers. When someone is truly unique, why do they try to turn them into everyone else? In the Wielichka salt mines in Poland there are incredible sculptures, in one case a sculptor was sent of to school, and though he was “technically” superior, the artist was gone. Since all was dated and described it was obvious to see.
