    Looks great man. I used both the kit instructions and the 3D model of REX in the PS2 Document of MGS2 as a guide. Respect to anyone paints these- even if you feel you didn't do a good job 'cause a lot of people didn't even try. Really helps if you have model building experience.
    I never got around to getting more of those Kotobukiya chain bases as I wanted to make a nice diorama because those figures just beg to be in one.

    Great looking paint work HB. 👍👍 way up.

    This absolutely amazing. The attention to detail is unbelievable. When you show off the cockpit and underside of Rex's head, it has a very comic book/ps1 game aesthetic because of the emphasis on lines around the detailing which , as you point out, really makes it pop.
    I have a Black edition Rex that I want to paint. I probably won't go into such insane detail with the camouflage as you did, but the black lines to emphasise the detailing looks awesome and I deffo want to try that!

    • @HamsterBomb
      @HamsterBomb  8 лет назад

      +James Dobson If it's all black I might try finding a gray marker pen or even white for the lines since the black on black might not show up well across the room. I'm glad I spent so much time on him and I'd love to see yours when you're finished as well!

    The line-work actually looks awesome! It's really bold and actually resembles the art used in the series, at least to me. It looks like it could have been a picture in the instruction manual! Great great job here Alex, this was just beautiful looking.

    Just as a tip. Instead of using micron pens you can use a black wash or ink to fill in the grooves and make it pop then dry the panels to clean it up. You could have washed it in about 5 minutes. But great job. I may get one of these and paint him up.

    • @HamsterBomb

      +Violent Nature they weren't all grooves. If you want the details you have to draw it

    Grabbing the re release. He's paid for just held in Japan because of the Japan post suspension due to the war in Ukraine.
    Very cool to see a fully painted one. Personal opinion, paint before assembly or after? From your experience. I'm terrified as I've never painted a movable model before. Warhammer etc sure but not a full on mech. But he looks so bland not painted ☹️

    • @HamsterBomb
      @HamsterBomb  2 года назад +1

      I'd say paint after. You can still partially disassemble it to make it easy but getting paint inside joints will cause them to no longer be sized correctly. Gotta be careful

    I’m sorry if you’ve answered this already and I didn’t see, but what kinda of brushes do you use. I’ve never painted a kit before but I’m very tempted to try with this cause of how great yours looks

    Hi. I would like to ask you one or two questions regarding your model of Rex here, but first of all I would like to say WOW! You've done him serious justice.
    1) roughly what is his overall height in the pose you have him shown here? got to check out his dimensions for my display case.
    2) Did you use metallic paibts to get the silver effect on the parts of his body?
    3) What is the width and depth of his stand/platform he's on?
    I'm considering getting him imported from Japan to add to ny collection.
    Thanks in advance.

      +John Stammers Thanks! 1. About 10 inches tall. 2. Yes brushed on. 3. It's a default base. About 7 by 7.

      HamsterBomb Thanks for the help. I've ordered both Rex and Ray from Japan. They don't sell them where I live :(
      Can't wait to add them to my collection of models/figures.
      Will be getting some paints from a hobby shop. Noticed what you said about the white enamel helping stabilise the joints so I'll be going by that advice. The other colours are acrylic water based. This will actually be my first time painting my own models, fingers crossed I don't mess them up lol.
      Once again he looks fantastic here and thanks for sharing.

    I'm definitely getting this figure! Thanks for making this, you were my deciding factor in getting it. If you can, can you tell me what colors you used, or which company rather. I'm making my own design but those colors really go together.

      +TMG honestly I just bought some testors model paints. They're small bottles you can get at any hobby store

      Ok so the kit just arrived (Amazon 2 day shipping). Can you just detail the process of painting it. All I need is just an outline of how to actually start. All I can find online are people who just used spray paint. Do you take the figure apart or paint it when finished? Thanks for helping me decide, And thanks for being a great youtuber.

    • @HamsterBomb
      @HamsterBomb  6 лет назад

      +TMG yea I generally do chunks at a time based on color. Then paint patterns. Then ink in lines. Watch the video again I explain it all

    Hi! Just putting my kit together. It's the absolute first time i do something like this, but I'm willing to try the camo painting.. is it that hard? Any suggestions? Thank you

    • @HamsterBomb
      @HamsterBomb  2 года назад

      Honestly it wasn't so bad. Do the silver coat first, then find the best shots online to reference. Use tiny brushes to freehand the shapes, then when you're done use a fine tip black marker to define the line work. Good luck!

    I'm soon getting a REX model as well. But i was wondering if you had painted any of the inside parts {like parts for the articulation and others} while you were painting it? If you remember of course.

    • @HamsterBomb

      +FARAH MASSOU you can reach those after he's assembled within reason

  • @zergslayer69
    @zergslayer69 7 лет назад

    I'm curious how you did the paint job since it wasn't a solid color. Did you spray it with the brown (sorry colorblind, just guessing) as a base, and then mask off the parts you want to show as camo, and then spray everything with silver?

    • @HamsterBomb
      @HamsterBomb  7 лет назад

      +Stanley Chen silver painted first then painted extras on top. All with brushes

    • @zergslayer69
      @zergslayer69 7 лет назад

      HamsterBomb ah, so you must've did a lot of masking of the silver, either that or you held the airbrush up pretty close to the piece so it doesn't get all over

  • @contagious.mistake
    @contagious.mistake Год назад

    Is the white also testors paint? And how did you get it so solid?

    • @HamsterBomb
      @HamsterBomb  Год назад

      Yes it was. For some reason I've found the glass jars are a lot more watery than the black plastic sets. That was the white I used. Same brand but different mix I guess.

    So would it be better to paint it first before I build it? Because I always wanted to build one of these and this would be my first time building one of these if you could tell me what tools I need to build this thanks man

    • @Themustangturtledude
      @Themustangturtledude 4 года назад

      I always recommend building snap fit kits like this and gunpla first than painting it later. Since it's snap fit you can pull the subassemblies apart easily and see exactly how you want to paint it.
