@@emperorhadrian6011they replaced the hydro laser for an actual laser and also gave it some anti personnel guns/ball turrets including the longer tail, other than that it's still a metal gear Ray albeit it has the eye sensors from the manned version despite being unmanned, although I guess that's because it's actually being piloted by a human brain like the rest of the enemies in mgr
@@traphimawari7760 you're underselling the aesthetic differences - the Unmanned Gear RAY is an entirely new design in the same overall silhouette of the manned Metal Gear RAY from MGS4. Arguably the only parts they actually share are sections of the outer armor panels on the legs and wings, and even there they have some differences due to the UG RAY having extra weaponry mounted.
I’m sure there’s a 3D print file somewhere to make this into the MGS2 Ray. Would love to have that with the mass production Rays that are the nice bronze/brown color scheme, and of course the Desperado Custom from MGRR!
Thanks for the review + live build! Mine is currently in the backlog and your vids are such a great help in prepping for the building and painting process. Now I'm hoping that with the Metal Gear Solid 3 remake coming out Kotobukiya will also finally be making a kit of the Shagogod...
He sadly never shares any screen time with this particular variant of RAY. He gets buried in the rubble at Shadow Moses before RAY emerges, and then only returns (minus arms...) after it has been dispatched
This kit seems a lot less complex than the Metal Gear Rex? I remember holding the box in the store and it did feel a good bit lighter. It's a little disappointing if that's the case because the best part about the Rex is building it for me
It definitely needs a lot more love to look good IMO. Goodguydan has an incredible painted build of it that's worth tracking down, I asked him so many questions lol
@@alastormedial A friend of mine is working on his too. At first I thought it was some kind of other party model because of the insane Seamlines he was showing off. . I might get it in the future with the next print just to compliment the Rex but I definitely think it won’t be as satisfying. One thing that also really enjoy about the Rex is that it has no parts forming! It’s all in there
It's complicated! Liquid Ocelot pilots a unique RAY in MGS4 - its has the rounded knees and short tail of a mass production type, but the color scheme (and cockpit, obviously...) are more reminiscent of the original prototype he stole from the Marines. Its been speculated to be the head of the original transplanted onto the body of a mass production RAY for some reason, and then given a new paint job and Outer Haven livery. Maybe they couldn't source replacement parts for the original manned RAY and it was easier to shove its cockpit onto the mass production body?
cant wait do 3d print a tail for it and make a DESPERADO custom! Rules of nature!
Dude YES. MGR is life
The mgr variant is much more extensively modified than just a tail.

Do you think love can bloom even on the battlefield?
"Steal? No, I'm taking it back."
"Yes, returned, to the Patriots"
"Rules of Nature" intensifies*
Would have been cool if it also included a Raiden mini

having the one with the tail from mgs2 would be amazing I always wanted that one as a kid

Yes, I am waiting for it 😊
That's a perfect model for kit bashing
Cool. Now we need the MGR version
They totally missed the opportunity for improved colour seperation!
YES! you finally got them all 🥳
Wish this was a bit bigger for its price!
Interesting that the colour schemes in the manual look more like Jehuty and Anubis from the ZOE games
Just played ZOE HD recently and this kit screams Jehuty
@@haxor7372it’s because it’s the same mech designer

Does the cockpit open like with Zoids?
I was waiting for this video with glee

Good looking model👌👌
wheres the tail?
Nice kit. Metal gear designs last ❤
Kinda bummed they left out the tail
