  • There has been a lot of head-scratching among SWL enthusiasts about the state of Republic of Yemen Radio on 11935 kHz. The station's broadcasts are almost always obliterated by a loud buzz, under which there might be anything from sort-of readable audio to severely distorted audio, to nothing but the buzz.
Listeners are wondering whether this be a jamming by a 3rd-party (Houthi militants? Iran?), or a defective transmitter. It doesn't help that this buzzing has been heard for about exactly a year, and remained there despite the station changed its frequency several times over that period.
I hope my findings from Monday July 15th, 2024 will shed some light on the real
Recorded snippets at 15:23-15:56 UTC Jul 15 2024 in NE Poland using Airspy HF+ Discovery & ~15x4.5m vertically-mounted loop antenna, currently terminated w/ 1100 Ohm on the NE side (making it directional, but on MW, not so on 25m).

For Radio Riyadh please try 1260 KHz, then tell me your feedback. I guess they are using 500 KW transmission tower.

also Try 585 KHz for Radio Riyadh as well.

For Saudi Al-Quran try 882 KHz.

@@arb8837 I usually get both 1260 & 882 (and 1098 from same site) with ease. Also other Saudi transmitters, depending on conditions & antenna. Recently I've been hearing 1449 out of Jeddah somehow. 585 is troublesome with a strong Iranian station from a similar direction, but I did log Riyadh a few times there too. But obviously MW is not the same as former SW transmissions of both Radio Riyadh and Holy Quran; some of them were aimed at Europe & offered strong signals, for example 15380 kHz mornings & afternoons; too bad they all vanished 😥

And no Al-Azm Radio on 11745 kHz anymore.

Yeah noticed that too. Did it disappear completely or is it still sometimes on air irregularly? Likewise any of their international services, virtually all gone :(

@@ArnieDXer it may be a part of some sort of war campaign,, like a way to demotivate certain ethnic groups that are involved in war (or Holy war)

@@ArnieDXer I just tuned in myself. if this station is jammed, then there may be a work around. i donthear much jamming noise wher im from but there is much static. maybe there needs to be a relay station a thousand miles away from the original staion to avoid jammer signals? all ive noticed is it seems that either the jamming signal does not travel as far as the radio signal so it can be heard in other countries.
