As a BLK360 owner, this was the first time I’ve seen any app available other than Recap. Thanks for posting, but it sure would be nice if I could get updated info like that without stumbling across a RUclips video.

      James,
      How does it work? Outdoors?

Rudy Deleon I use it in a forensic application, so almost everything I do is outdoors. I’ve not had any trouble with it at all. I’ve used it in temps from 20-100 degrees and it hasn’t complained. The camera doesn’t like full sun (like any other camera), so the photos can get overexposed. The scan points don’t seem to be negatively affected though.

@@jamessloanofficial Hi James, was wondering what do you mean it does not like full sun? I am thinking of purchasing a blk and need the point cloud to build a model off of in revit/3d modeling program. I currently have a matterport which is not optimal outside as you might know.

I wish he would have talked about how far or close the scan points should be or what the max is.

Hi there, This depends heavily on the environment that you are scanning and what the scanner can 'see' from each station. But in an open environment, we suggest keeping the scans at a maximum of 40-50 feet apart to maintain coverage on the ground between the two stations.

    Hello
In the App Store is written that "leica BLK360" can be used on regular iPads, but in your video you say that the apps work only on the iPad pro. Can you explain this point please? I have to know what iPad I must buy!!
    Thank you

If you are using a regular iPad, the app will download and you can connect to the scanner, but will crash when it begins to import the data. The iPad Pro has higher level processing power that is needed to import the scan data. -Andy

If I have to Scan a Heritage Buildings with Internal Heights is ter a extention stand (mecanism) available for the BLK to take at that height

Hi Gaurav, people often use taller tripods for these types of projects so depending on your heights, that might be a good solution to check out. Let us know if you have any questions!

    hi
I was asked to create a virtual walk through for a horse training farm. I am a metterport user and I know that MP won't cut it for this project because : 1- its a lot of outdoors scanning 2- the area is 80,000 SQM, not foot but meters. do you know if BLK360 can scan such size?
    thank you

Hey Shihab, the BLK360 can definitely handle large projects like this. The only limiting factors are the computer hardware and the software you are using to put the data together.

Hi there, Autodesk ReCap is compatible with laptops, though there are certain system requirements that you will want to first check on the Autodesk website under Knowledge Network.

Do not buy!. The thing is buggy. There are black holes in the photos in every scan. They said they fixed it but they haven't and it has nothing to do with the iso. The photos are really grainy and crappy too. I've rented at least 6 of these things everyone has the same problem and I've had problems with all my datasets. Also point registration is really slow and it has errors creating problems with the whole dataset forcing you to start scanning the whole thing again. The thing is still in beta and its been out for several years. Leica admit the product garbage and fix it. They did not pay attention to the details..like it should work!

Hi Kristofer, we are sorry to hear you're having frustrations. Some of what you've listed here sounds like bugs we have addressed years ago. We'd be interested to hear who you're renting from to make sure their scanners are up to date. To clarify, BLK360 is not in a beta phase, as we have thousands of units being used in the market by happy customers. We hope we can work with you to get there as well.
