The amazing Mickey Thomas!!! He never got the respect he deserved for being a truly great lead singer. He could wail. His lead vocal on Elvin Bishop's Fooled Around And Fell In Love was also classic. Loved Mickey. Saw him with Starship in 83 with Grace Slick and Paul Kantner too, really great.
Glad to see you enjoying the incredible voice of mickey Thomas! He is the only singer in rock history who can hold a candle to Steve Perry ! Love your reactions Hari !
😂. Steve Perry is as pop as pop gets!!! Try Paul Rodgers, Glenn Hughes, Gregg Allman, Ronnie James Dio - real rock singers. BTW Mickey Thomas has always been great
you are right Harry..Epic track ! ..i watched them play this not more than five feet away from me...front row center stage !...Wow ! it was a lifetime performance . never to be forgotten...Dana
So glad you picked this. That’s Mickey Thomas. Check out his lead vocal in “Fooled Around and Fell in Love” …from his days with Elvin Bishop Band. Great reaction. Agreed
David Frieberg wrote this song about an exgirlfriend who wasn't really named Jane. About their relationship up and downs. Originally he wrote this along the 60's Rolling Stones baroque style but Craig Chaguico suggested it would be better presented as a heavier rock tune. And it was !! MY OH MY. Absolutely a masterpiece. Lyrically sensational, vocals blistering, and the instruments absolutely mind blowing. Great reaction Harri.💎💎💎 Thanks Harri and Imadrummin. Love how you brought out Harri's guttural chuckle he has when he's thrilled. Cheers from Canada 🇨🇦
I dont listen to Jefferson Starship, but I listen to this song Over and Over, and Over again. What a song! Its used as the Theme song in the new Tarzan Movie.
Dude, I can't tell you how many times I've listened to Jane five or even 10 times in a row. It's that addictive. I love everything about it but I really love love his vocal riffing there on the outro. I mean, he is just showing off at that point but still it's so fantastic; it's exactly what that song needs to be as killer as it is. It's got to be one of the best pop rock gems ever produced. And also that guitar solo on the way out as well, right up to the last crazy howl you can hear right before the fade is complete.
The incredible Mickey Thomas on vocals and the amazing Craig Chaquico on guitar. Can't lose with that combo! I first saw Mickey on the Midnight Special with the Elvin Bishop band in the late 70's, and was blown away! I had all of their records on vinyl back in the day, from Airplane to Starship. "Ride The Tiger" is another mind blower
Mickey Thomas is a great vocalist. Saw him @ our long lost street festival a few years back. Of course, love Grace's lead vocals on most of their songs. What a great band . From an airplane to a space craft. One of the best 60s and 70s band.
Prior to joining up with Starship, Mickey Thomas was chosen by Elvin Bishop to sing the lead on their biggest hit, "Fooled Around and Fell In Love", surprised you didn't make the connection. Another hit for Starship with Mickey as lead is "Find Your Way Back", check that one out! I have yet to understand this puzzling fact, the first album released under the new band name "Jefferson Starship" was "Dragon Fly" and the first huge hit off the album was "Caroline", no one has done a reaction, PLEASE be the first to do so! Biggest album released in the entire history of the band would be "Red Octopus", additional song suggestions from that album (you have already done "Miracles") would be "Tumblin'", "Play On Love", "There Will Be Love" and ""Ai Garimasũ (There Is Love)". Through the history of this bands many reinventions they were a powerhouse of the rock scene! The rabbit hole for this band is deep, other suggestions from their long history would be "Comin' Back To Me", "Somebody to Love", "White Rabbit", "Love Too Good", "Count on Me", "Runaway", "With Your Love", "Sara", "Nothing's Gonna Stop Us Now", "I Want To See Another World" and "Set the Night to Music" (but that's just for starts). Add in a solo release from Marty Balin, "Hearts", RIP Marty...
Story goes: a record executive called up Toto management to congratulate them on a successful follow-up to "Hold The Line", he had thought "Jane" was a Toto song.
Hi Harri ... you made me laugh so hard by your description of Mickey Thomas' singing. After you play this back ... 'cause I KNOW you will ... pay attention/focus on how he comes back in AFTER the blaring guitar solo. The solo ends up going up and up very high, and he comes back in actually 1 step HIGHER than the guitar. You're not supposed to be able to do that. You are correct though, he should be arrested for singing so damn good. Finally, just for you Harri ... one FAT LIKE coming your way ... 👍🙌🤯😁
It's funny because I think I was in 10th Grade when this came out. I'd been into Jefferson Airplane kind of originally although that was slightly older stuff for me but my first girlfriend and I listened to their previous album, whichever one had Marty Balin and they were singing hits like Runaway and Count On Me. And I really thought they had started to sell out totally on this album but then that piano Hook was just so fascinating to me when I was already a good piano player so I immediately sat down and started playing it because it's easy as hell but it just feels so good. It wasn't until years or really decades later after playing and singing in bands for a long time and becoming quite the musicologist that I suddenly started to appreciate how mind-blowing the vocals are on this. Now that I understand a lot more about real singing, it's still amazes me every time. It's one of those pop songs that you should grow to hate because they play it too much but I can't ever stop being amazed by it. Everything about it but particularly that vocal performance, wow.
Finally a reviewer gives props to the incredible-beyond-belief vocal work of Mickey Thomas. At this point the Goddess singer Grace Slick has been reduced to backup singer at the end of her reign - Mickey also sang for Elvin Bishop (Fooled Around and Fell in Love). He's just an absolute god of rock singing. P.S. Harri, love your show and your reviews.
Grace Slick wasn't on this album, Paul Kantner being the only original Airplane member was, he's actually the only constant through the bands many integrations.
Mickey Thomas (despite the popularity of Starship back in the day) is a criminally unknown name in rock vocalists who deserves to be mentioned in the same breath as Steve Perry. Listen to him sing a ballad like Sarah. A amazing and beautiful voice.
I love love LOVE this song. Great reaction to it!!! This song is like the Lays Potato chip slogan of many years ago...you can't eat just one... but in this case you can't listen to it just once, you gotta go back and play it again and again!!!! (At least that's what I have to do!)
Harri, surprised you didn't recognize Mickey Thomas' voice! I know you reacted to him in Elvin Bishop's Fooled Around and Fell in Love. And the amazing Grace Slick backing him up. I LOVE THIS SONG! And you should check out the whole album, it's a banger!
So glad you liked "Jane"! It's been one of my fave rock tunes for a LONG time. I was 16 years old when it charted here in America. I was a junior in high school when it came out in 1980. I drove my car to the school parking lot in the morning before my first class, and Jane would be playing on the FM radio station. I couldn't exit my car until I'd heard all of this song. It truly is a monster rock song!
Always loved this song and band. Had a blast watching you react to such an amazing talent! This guys range is insane. Makes me believe in God when I hear a voice like this… what a gift Mickey was given! Long live rock ‘n’ roll and true talent!!
Although I've known & loved both songs for many years, I only just realized how similar the feel of Aldo Nova's Fantasy is to that of this song. Think I may have to go listen to them back to back. Great pick & reaction!
Lucky, lucky, lucky, lucky - I was -- to grow up with this. To listen to this. To sing to this. To pretending I was a background vocalist - and becoming one. This was so --- inspirational. On top of that, get familiar with Grace Slick, one of the originals -- all the way around. Haight-Ashby, the 60's - the 70's, and Women's Rights. This band transformed from Jefferson Airplane to Jefferson Starship - never missed a beat. I was so lucky to have this music -- and I'm so happy you chose this track - Unbelievable performance and production -- PRODUCTION!!!!! OFF THE CHARTS!!! Keep rockin'!!!
I gotta say - I love that you just reacted to two of my favorite songs EVER back to back: "Steamroller Blues" and "Jane"! Apparently we both have the same taste in music because you loved both of them (and you love Billy Joel, too - not a Billy Joel song I don;t like). Love your channel!!!
This is one of the best ever. I was very , very lucky to be in a band back in the 80s and 90s that had a singer that could cover this perfectly. We were able to do so much due to his voice and the excellent musicians in the band. I was the weak spot if we had one, playing piano and synths. The other guys had been playing together for 10 years when I joined. This song always got the crowd jumping. Everything we did from JA, A, JS, Starship brought the house down, more a testament to Micky, Grace, Paul, and the rest of lineup over the years. They really had some great rockers. I got the chance to see them at a private show in Charlotte NC around 1990, and they were absolutely on point. Grace unfortunately wasn't there, but Micky brought down the house. At one time we had both a male and female singer, so we did a few of their songs. One that we did, from the Jefferson Starship era that I love, is No Way Out. Give that one a listen. If you react, don't do the official video, there's too many sound effects and gibberish that aren't in the song, and it seriously detracts from it. Really anything from the Nuclear Furniture album.
Jefferson Starship is an updated version of Jefferson Airplane...the 60's being over. Grace slick is on background vocals, Paul Kanter on one of the guitars. Harri lad, look at you groove! Fun!
Great reaction Harri. From Buffalo Springfield to New Buffalo Springfield to Jefferson Airplane to Jefferson Starship to Starship. The band went through many changes but the progression of their music is a history lesson in itself.
This was the middle group formed between Jefferson Airplane of the 60’s and Starship of the 80’s. Truly talented groups, and this one no doubt was great in concert. Grace Slick and Mickey Thomas were great together. And the drummer during this time was Ainsley Dunbar, first drummer of the group Journey.Glad you liked it,sir.
LIKE ? LOVE ! Over the cliff ..... love that reaction !!!! Even us metalheads realize greatness in mainstream music & this is the case. Aynsley Dunbar on the drums you can never go wrong.
Great reaction! Energy indeed!!! I couldn't help but notice but about 27 mark it sounded like Hold the Line by Toto and about 247 mark it sounded like Hot Blooded by Foreigner. Just for a split second. You should check out those two bands sometimes. Thanks for sharing! Love from Texas!!!
I love your reaction Harri! It is one of my favorites! Such an unbelievable song and I could listen to it over and over again too! This is getting my BIG LIKE!!👍
Elven Bishop has quite a musical history all on his own. To my recollection, back to the Paul Butterfield blues band, and likely before. Warped sense of humor too. Try "Traveling Shoes". Jane is just plain old good Rock & Roll!
Man o man I love your reactions. I remember the exact time and place that I first heard this song and my reaction was pretty much the same as yours. This tune knocked a lot of people dead on their asses.👍
Mickey Thomas has one of the best vocals in rock....period!!!!
He still sings great today. Saw him in 2021 and his voice was rock solid
Definitely!!! He's still performing at 74 I believe. Heard a part of a concert on RUclips recently he still sounds great.
This song is a scorcher! I never get tired of hearing it.
Amen.Mickey Thomas is the most under rated singer in rock and roll! Thank you Mickey for singing your heart out for us! ❤❤❤
Ansley Dunbar on drums. Kicks ass!
BTW Mickey Thomas has always been great
@@flyingburritobro68 Should probably add Burton Cummings (The Guess Who) to this list.
I might add Brad Delp in there as well
@@alansmith7626 I was going to mention Brad! He was amazing!
Did you forget about Lou Gramm?
Watch the live video of Elvin Bishop Fooled around and fell in love. It’s the same lead singer.
You can search videos on RUclips, see him singing this 40 years later, and he STILL sounds the same. It's crazy.
Back in the day my friends and I closed the bedroom door and blasted this, this was and is a total banger!! Glad you enjoyed!!
1979 BABY I DUG THE 1970s
Oh, Mickey! His high, clear, powerful, perfect voice always takes my breath.
Mickey Thomas such a brilliant vocalist.
The guy had one hell of an arena rock voice.
you are right Harry..Epic track ! ..i watched them play this not more than five feet away from me...front row center stage !...Wow ! it was a lifetime performance . never to be forgotten...Dana

So glad you picked this. That’s Mickey Thomas. Check out his lead vocal in “Fooled Around and Fell in Love” …from his days with Elvin Bishop Band. Great reaction. Agreed
I remember hearing this song when it came out in, I believe, '79. It was incredible! It's still incredible!!
It was 79 and this along with many other great songs is why it's my favorite year in pop and rock music.
Yes, 1979 Songs RULED!!! THIS ONE STANDS OUT FOR SURE!!!
IT WAS 1979 THE fantastic 70s

@@Imadrummin Thank you for your great picks. So enjoyable. 👍✌️😊🇨🇦🇺🇲🎶
Pure raw talent way before auto tune*
JEFFERSON STARSHIP ...."Stranger"...such a great tune also
This is one of my favorite rock songs and Mickey Thomas absolutely kicks a$$ on vocals.
Let's not forget about Craig Chaquico's guitar through the entirety of Jafferson Starship's total work. The dude is a genius.
Chaquico is a great guitarist . I
Great song, thank you Jefferson Starship!
I dont listen to Jefferson Starship, but I listen to this song Over and Over, and Over again. What a song! Its used as the Theme song in the new Tarzan Movie.
The great Micky Thomas.(Fooled around and Fell in Love) He and Brad Delp easily break into my top 5 male rock vocalists.
Yep. Brad Delp, Lou Graham, Steve Perry, Ann Wilson, Mickey Thomas, Jimmie Jamison, Rik Emmitt, Freddie Mercury & Robert Plant
The Singer is the same singer from “ Fooled around and fell in love” by elvin Bishoo AND the backing vocals are with the GREAT Grace Slick !!!!
They are fantastic top to bottom 😉
Mickey Thomas..............WOW !!!!!

Ha ha, I remember shows like The Midnight Special… they were all we had before MTV came along.
I agree " Ride The Tiger is a great song from the Red Octopus album that I still have among my record collection.
Mickey Thomas is a great vocalist. Saw him @ our long lost street festival a few years back. Of course, love Grace's lead vocals on most of their songs. What a great band . From an airplane to a space craft. One of the best 60s and 70s band.
One of my favorite Jefferson Starship songs, always loved the vocals
Maickey Thomas sings his asss off....

Caroline is criminally overlooked. One of Marty's best songs.
I’ve loved Mickey Thomas ever since I heard Fooled Around and Fell in Love by Elvin Bishop ❤
Find Your Way Back is a banger.
When I think of the great vocalists in rock, I think of this guy!

A song that sounds really good with this 1979 song is Donnie Iris's "Ah, Leah" from 1980.
