This video really speaks to me. I also have a physical disability that impacts my ability to use a camera and have gone through several different models to find one that I can actually use. I spent the last few months trying to figure out what would be best for me and just recently picked an a6000. That camera has been a complete game changer, I can finally start taking the photos I want to take without having to worry about the impact it'll have on my body, It's been freeing.
I've enjoyed your videos for awhile but knowing you've been through something similar and are still putting out incredible work brings it to a whole other level. This video is incredibly encouraging and all I can say is thank you.

I'm a quadriplegic and strange enough got into the X series purely because of its threaded shutter. I'm able to use my mouth to operate an old fashioned cable release in the threaded shutter button, which leaves my 2 hands free to hold the camera steady.

Had the X100V for about 2 years now. Solid little guy. I don’t shoot on it much because I fear it getting stolen, so it’s every now and then. However, during what still is a honeymoon phase, I shot about 70,000 shots the images still give me joy. The experience is all I ever needed and I wish I just found the x100v line or something similar to it when I first started.
I mostly shoot on a cheaply-bought g85. It helps me enjoy myself without looking over my shoulder all the time.
Still, the x100v will either die on me or I will die on the Fuji, but it is staying with me for life.

There's nothing special about this camera. Indeed, a photographer can do exactly the same by simply focussing on one camera and one prime lens, fine tune your photographic techniques and learn to see the world with just that one camera, lens, colour grading and photographic technique. I've a whole big bin of cameras, lens, filters, tripods, ..... and I decided to go simple. For the past four months, I just use one camera and lens, a Nikon D750 + 35/1.8 with camera set to monochrome (yellow filter, +1 highlight -2 shadow, +2 sharpening). It has opened up my eyes and I began to enjoy my photography much more and been creating much more impactful images that I have for the past 5 years. I plan to change to colour from spring next year and experiment with colours next year. I am enjoying it so much now I plan to sell off my Fuji X-T3 and lenses too since I have not used them for the past 6 months.

It may not have helped, but X100V and X-E4 were always sold out since release. I even saw Fuji selling marked up bodies on their official stores on platforms. They had zero issue supplying the X-H2 and X-T5 models, both of with had more complex systems with all new tooling.

Fujifilm's assembly lines for the X100v were largely disassembled to make room for the line for the X-H2 series and X-T5 because the X100v did not sell well ar all in 2020. There's also the motherboard and battery differences and more as well.
When demand blew up the move had already been made and now Fuji will perpetually never meet demand for the camera against its own decision it made a year earlier.
This is information straight from my Fujifilm representatives as I am a camera retailer. This tells me the X100v's replacement will have the larger battery and be a bigger camera. Perhaps even with IBIS. But I'm not here for rumors. I'm just making my own foresight here.

I enjoyed my time with the x100v, but ultimately I had to move on from it because it just couldn’t nail focus for me when I wanted to lean on AF. I tried everything I could think of but even my old xe1 and xpro2 nailed focus more often than my x100v. Those were slower, but I wouldn’t call the x100v fast to focus either.
When it did nail focus, the images were fantastic and I could totally see why people love the camera, but I just got tired of feeling like it got focus on the back of the camera only to find out it was a bit off or soft on my computer. It was a constant problem with the AF.
Meanwhile my Xh2/Xh2s pretty much never miss, so I went in that direction. I’d love to see an x100vi with the autofocus from the xh2/s. That would be a day one purchase for me.

Not convinced! Why hype about it? Almost like marketing gimmick or strategy: produce less and create enforced demand😮! I might like Fuji build and even its IBIS. But it's still APSC & fixed lens😕. So, can't buy your hype about it. Sorry, man.

  • @JimIBobIJones
    @JimIBobIJones 9 месяцев назад +1

Its a overhyped camera and not even that good (at its price) when you consider the specs. Its got a friggn huge body for a "compact" camera - as big as most APSC mirrorless interchangable lens cameras and much bigger than the sony A6000 series.
Despite the size (and price) it doesn't come with any sort of lens stabilization, which despite what some will tell you is as useful for stills as it is for video. With IBIS, I can go down as low as 1/15 on my shutter handheld and get usable photos - without it, 1/60 if I am lucky.
I also REALLY fail to see the appeal of the "film sim" BS. Having a shitty filter JPEG mode is something to damn a camera for, not hype it up. Use lightroom if you want vintage look to your photos... That way you have control over the look rather than having a crappy washed out colours and noisy "film grain" forced on you.
Don't get me wrong, its a nice looking camera, performance seems decent (but nothing out of the ordinary) and the dedicated control wheels are sorta appealing (I still prefer having 3 "multifunctional" wheels which switch functionality depending on the shooting mode like professional cameras but I can see the vintage appeal) but it really is way too overhyped for what it is.
The silver lining is that the hype has pushed down the prices of alternatives which IMHO are much more appealing packages for a larger sensor everyday carry camera.

I even had your Cinestill one that comes in one of the packs (I can't remember which one) but my PC crashed recently and I've lost everything, and I can not find where to get them, I remember they were sent to me automatically in a Winrar (Zaius) don't want to give my e-mail here, but for the life of me I can not find anything, I shoot you an email can you help me out? I'm not sure if it goes through you or goes to Selly but would love these Presets again as I lost the rar folder and access to e-mails and all my photographs I stupidly didn't back up, lesson learned.

I bought mine used for NZ$2200 and they've been selling locally as high as $3000 lately, with even crazier prices internationally.
I think I'll sell mine too while prices are hot. Honestly, it's just a camera. I find the grip too small, the controls and interface annoying (why can't I save different sets of controls to custom camera modes?), and the autofocus subpar.

I was collateral to this hype. I've been shooting Fujifilm for 10 years. I was waiting on my X-T to die before buying the X-E4 because I was looking for something smaller. Turns out the X100V hype spilled out and made the X-E4 run out of stock real quick. I was on a wait list for about 11 months before giving up waiting on Fujifilm to stock a small camera again and bought a Canon R8. So far I actually really like the Canon.
The hype legit kicked me out of my system. I still have my XF lenses in case Fujifilm finally drop something compact again in the future, but damn. Luckily I have my Ricoh GR III in the mean time. 😂

You've captured the essence. I used to shoot with an old DSLR, ancient by modern standards. But it became a part of my body. I didn't have to put a conscious thought into making it do what I needed. Like you don't think how you want to move your hand, you just do it. I 'upgraded' to a FF mirrorless a few years ago. I was struggling so much that I stopped taking a camera with me altogether. The most important thing in choosing gear is to find the camera that works for you.

after using cheap dslrs in high school with bad lenses, my first big purchase of a camera in college to get me back into the hobby was the x100F. i pre-ordered it. i thought the fixed lens would avoid me from lusting over lenses and gear. one complete thing, singular with no worry. just me and the picture. every gearhead around me thought it was gimmicky.
I've used it nearly every day since i received it. with the popularity of the x100v, i feel vindicated.

Amazing production. Lovely images. The demand for the X100V has had a knock-on effect. I'd rather have the XE4 but that's become much more expensive too as more people turn to it as an alternative to the X100V.

Inspiring video as usual GX, you're amazing. Too bad hipsters turned the X100V into a fashion accessory. That's at least part of the reason, besides the chip shortage, why these are in short supply and people pay insanely inflated prices for them. I have four other Fujis and I totally get why this camera is the best for you with your physical impairments but for those not burdened with limitations, plenty of other great deals out there on changeable lens Fujis like the X-T3. I have three X-T3s and they are a great camera that has been overshadowed by the X-T4 and 5 but the X-T3 with a 23mm f/1.4 or even the 35mm f/2.0 CF lenses is a wonderful street photo tool. Still small and inconspicuous, but def not as hipster as the X100V has become. I've seen good examples of the pair, the X-T3 and lens for around $800

I still use my original x100 with the sticky aperture stuck at f2. I shoot it in full manual as the camera doesn't recognize the stuck aperture so the light meter reads incorrect if you stop down. I also shoot with manual focus and just kinda set it to a certain distance and just try to position myself in the right spot. Its a pretty fun experience (even if I miss more than half my shots) but the ones that do come out are lovely and the experience is worth it. One thing to note that is disappointing is that fuji no longer offers any support or repairs for this camera so I'm "stuck" with the broken aperture.

If it's true and they really have stopped repairing their older X100 cameras then maybe it's time to sell my older X100s. Really bad form on Fuji's part! They're effectively saying their cameras have a 10 year shelf life.

Sold mine for an X-Pro3, can't believe how much the price went up since, I could have turned a profit!
I just didn't like the 23mm focal length and it was a bit too big, felt I may as well carry the X-Pro3.

Gotta say.... the x100 line and its lens has a very distinct digital look to their photos that I'm not a fan of..... It's this super sharp and clinical look, to the point of being distractingly soulless. I've struggled to work around it, and use my xpro2 with fuji and adapted glass far more often.
Also using the fly-by-wire lens is not fun... at all. Unless you like auto focus.

Great production video. As a side note, I never understood the appeal of any Fujifilm camera that wasn't the XT and XH line. They all seemed like nerfed cameras. Small size? Fixed/Prime lens? Retro design? Colour science/Fuji presets? You get that with XT. Price? X-T20/X-T30. A x100V that forces you to slow down your photography? One can do that with any camera. I feel the fact youtubers kept comparing it to a much more expensive Leica and its timeless design is what made drove the craziness for the x100v. I kept my 5D MKII for nostalgia sake and recently upgraded a X-T20 to a X-T5. I'm just glad people keep buying Fujifilm for whichever reason so that they are not forced to close or sell off the photography division.

If I have to compare this to the Leica CL I would take the Leica. You can probably get one second hand for almost the same price and with the 23mm lens at f2 you won’t get a better camera. Small and simple to use, I thinks knocks the Fuji x100v off the podium and not so hyperdrive. Well I know fuji will be releasing an x100v soon
