Interesting note about Jekyll and Hyde, everyone probably knows this by now but I still love the idea, in the book Jekyll is completely aware as Hyde. Hyde is just a name he gave himself so he could escape the consequences of doing bad stuff. He is just going through a physical change to reflect the inner evil he has, no mental shift occurs.
YES! Oh my gosh I am so happy someone else knows this. Jekyll and Hyde is my favorite book, at least out of the ones I’ve read and it always makes me curious how pop culture removed that part of the story. I swear almost no one knows the Jekyll was fully aware as Hyde.
The range of character art that Alex has been able to perfect is absolutely mind boggling! The poses, the expressions, the compositions! All of them so unique and dynamic! Truly one of my biggest inspirations!!!
Back in my My Little Pony days, I watched a fan animatic of Confrontation by Ink Potts. That video was the seed for my love of horror and horror musicals, and the Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde holds a special place in my heart. You really did the musical justice with such a mesmerising illustration! I was also so excited about the Rocky Horror Show illustration. The movie is so influencial for me
I adore this series of speed paintings - you knock it out of the park with every single piece! The “Wicked” piece is my favorite of this set - that’s a show that’s very near and dear to my heart and you nailed the energy and aura of the song perfectly 💚💚💚
Confrontasion is an absolute banger when it comes to Jekyll and Hyde, but my personal favorite will forever be "The World Has Gone Insane" ! It's full of emotion and drama and it really shows Jekyll's downwards spiral to insanity. PS. Amazing artwork as always aaaa
As a huge fan of Wicked, I really feel No Good Deed is an underrated song because it just has so much raw emotion in it and has everything Elphaba has been through come to ahead all at once. And you captured that so PERFECTLY in your piece. Like wow, it’s a beautiful composition and the two Elphaba’s, one big and powerful and full of rage, and the other small and meek and horrified, just perfectly capture the depth of her character and what she goes through when singing that song. Amazing job! And Happy Halloween!!!
Dude, that Jekyll one is great! I was already sold on the Wicked on, with the big, spectral form behind her. But wow, the colour contrasts on Jekyll and Hyde were chefs kiss ✨️
If you haven’t already ride the cyclone is my favorite musical at the moment, it has fantastic staging, concept, and characters. And don’t even get me started on the vocal performances. The are a few ‘slime tutorials’ running around on youtube of the original cast!

My boyfriend actually performed "Confrontation" as a solo song for our freshman year vocal technique class. He jumped up on chairs at our friends and when he switch to Hyde for the first time he threw the tie he was wearing his glasses across the room. He did so well and I love him so much. (He's a dm for our d&d campaign so switching between characters is easy for him)
The fact I knew the song used for Wicked was No Good Deed before it was revealed just because the back pose looks like she's screaming out "FIEROOOOOO". Well done ABD, well done 🤧
YES omg seeing love for David Bedella makes me sooooo happy he is TRULY one of my favorite Franks!!! Top five for sure, he’s such a delight to watch and absolutely *hilarious*. The “hair in the mouth” bit he did in that performance you mentioned has me crying laughing every time, especially watching Brad’s actor try and fail to stay in character and not laugh. The 2013 actor you mentioned, I think that’s Oliver Thornton? I don’t know if I’ve ever seen him in that red outfit but it sure LOOKED like Oliver and the year sounds right? He’s another one of my favorites, while his energy is a bit of a departure from the usual with Frank it’s still so fun
Amazing job as always Alex! It's so wonderful to see you draw a piece for Confrontation. An animatic of that song is what inspired me to become an animator, so it holds a special place in my heart. If you're stilling looking for spooky song recs, I'd definitely suggest "The Ballad of Jane Doe" from Ride the Cyclone, if you haven't already. Hope you have a wonderful rest of your Hallowevening!
I love it! You asked for some recommendations, and I can give you a few, though I don't think they're very scary. The Mad Ones - A girl goes on a road trip with her best friend, unsure of what she's going to do with her life; take the road less traveled or do what her mother wants. The Last Five Years - Is a musical about two people who used to be in a relationship and it crashed and burned. (Forgot to mention it has a very interesting way of telling the story. One character recounts their failed relationship past to future and other future to past. It's really unique.) 36 Questions - Honestly I don't really know what the story is since I've only ever listened to the soundtrack. Next to Normal (Personal Favorite) - A story about a family going through mental illness and loss, specially SIDs and Bipolor Depression.
I LOVED Jekyll & Hyde when my local theater did a production of it. I haven't fully watched another version of it to this day because the whole experience was too powerful to overwrite just yet, so I don't know how other productions did it, but there was this giant mirror in Jekyll's lab that they used I think in Confrontation, where they backlit another actor that posed as Hyde, lipsynching to the singing of the actual actor who did a wonderful job of hiding whenever he was singing Hyde's parts on stage. I knew both characters were played by the same actor, but that part legit made me unsure of whether there were actually one or two actors playing them. There was also a super funny thing when Jekyll collapsed in front of the mirror and that part of the stage went dark to focus on another scene, but you could just make out how they lifted the mirror up so Jekyll could roll to the other side of it, before lowering the mirror back down. I had to keep myself from bursting out laughing. (note, I worked at that theater at one point, and am a theater prop maker by trade, so I tend to focus on the little details and background stuff instead of the important stuff, they actually did the mirror lifting and lowering so smoothly and slowly that most of the audience had no clue) I also didn't know I needed your rendition of the characters before now and I am now in love
As someone doing Jekyll and Hyde for my critical reading exams, I just know I'm gonna visualise these two the way you're drawing them, which if anything make my life a lot easier lol
You somehow won over my bias towards Wicked and Rocky Horror by making a STUNNING Jekyll and Hyde piece, a musical I have never seen. Incredible work, I love the poses, lighting, and effects work of that last piece. (I loved the first two pieces a lot too but like. Wow. That last one.)
Ah man, I really love the Wicked and Jekyll&Hyde artworks! Also, if this interests you, there is a musical adaptation of a Goosebumps story that's very Halloween-y, and Alex Brightman's in it! Anyway, happy halloween!
I screamed from joy when I saw Jekyll and Hyde. I’ve been binging it all month. Another great performance of j+h was by Gregorio umana. Chills literal chills

first of all, i LOVE no good deed. Its hands down my favorite Wicked song. But when I tell you that he said Jekyll and Hyde and I SCREAMED I am deadass, I about lost my everloving MIND.
My mom would only listen to her Wicked cd during road trips, leading to hours of singing to the soundtrack in the car and it was the first musical she took me too leading to a lifelong love of musicals. Wicked will forever remain one of my favorite musicals because of that.

Thank you, sm for these and even the videos talking about queer things (you've helped me figure out a lot
I will never understand how you come up with so many unique poses!!! It’s truly admirable!!! As for show recommendations, I cannot recommend Ride the Cyclone enough!!
Thank you for doing Jekyll and Hyde. It looks amazing. The colors. The lighting on each character. The expressions on both of them. Just amazing. Also Hyde kinda does look like Shigaraki from My hero academia.
I absolutely love ALL of the pieces, the directions you went in, and just... Everything about them. I would love to see you do something with Repo! The Genetic Opera next time, if you get a chance. It's one of my absolute favorite musicals- Hadestown as well!
Out of all of the pieces here, Confrontation I think is my favorite maybe just for the subtle detail of Dr. Jekyll's eyes having extra lines around them, helping to make him look several times more terrified of what he's done.
I was so happy when he mentioned Caleb hyles and annapanstu I adore their cover’s specially annapanstus someone gets hurt cover that shit slaps so hard
Wow these pieces are amazing!!! This has got to be my favorite set of pieces thus far!!! If you keep going with this series I'd love to see what you do with The Count of Monte Cristo. If you like voice growls then the song Hell to Your Doorstep would be right up your alley.
I adore no good deed, so I am so happy you drew that song. It’s so dramatic and emotional I love it. I’ve seen Wicked live and been in a small production of it, and that scene always gets me.
genuinely, the posing and dynamic shapes in each of these pieces blows me away, specifically the piece for wicked. i spent the entire time just staring gobsmacked as it just got better and better
I'VE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS OMG YESSSSSSSSSSS (I'm always this exited when a video is posted because this is one of my favorite art channels, and I've already watched all the old videos multiple times lol)
My favourite of this spooky batch of illustrations definitely has to be the Jekyll and Hyde one. The exaggerated poses and expressions are absolutely gorgeous!! And I love the lighting and colour choice. You always breathe so much life and character into your artwork✨
God your art never fails to make me want to strive to be a better artist. You're such a big inspiration! I can't even choose which of these were my favorite. As you worked on and finished each one, I thought you couldn't top the previous one and yet you DID like a BOSS. For musical recs I've got three. Two of which I've seen recommended a couple times (Little Shop of Horrors and the Count of Monte Cristo) and one I haven't seen mentioned at all (Repo! The Genetic Opera).
These are amazing!! If I had to chose one to be my favorite, it would be the Jekyll and Hyde one. The poses and expressions of the characters are just *chef's kiss*
I love Jeckyll and Hyde musical (specially Anthony Warlow's versions is my favourite version by far) but never knew Caleb Hyles had a version of confrontation 😮After this video I'll definetly check it out! Amazing illustrations as always!! Really cool artworks!
Being a big fan of villains and their origins, when Starkid took Aladdin and gave Jafar the Wicked treatment, I was amused to learn how the title number Twisted drew so much from No Good Deed in its narrative purpose. It takes these originally one note villains and makes them deeply complex in a strangely relatable way. And I think that’s what I love about musical theater in general. How it gets you into the head of the characters with how they express themselves in song.
I actually finished The guy who didn't like musicals the minute you posted this and... i don't know man, that timing was perfect. haven't finished the video yet but so far, I'm loving the sheer campness of Frank N Furter. I've said this for most masc presenting fictional characters but- who am i kidding, transition goals right there.
Idk how this is the first time I’ve heard about any version of Jekyll and Hyde other than the original book where Hyde wasn’t a split personality or other mind, Hyde was just a mask Jekyll used to let himself be free of the consequences of doing bad things after hiding that part of himself away for so long, eventually getting stuck as Hyde permanently. Definitely going to look into Jekyll and Hyde some more :)
Your compositions- I have zero words to describe how in awe I am at the way you set up your art, their poses are so dynamic and full of life. I'm on my knees begging for a crumb of this talent. Well done all around. I love all three of these shows as well, amazing choices.
No matter how many times this happens, I always find it jarring to hear someone, especially a RUclipsr, mention a different RUclipsr that I watch that has nothing in common at all. Really spooks me, you know? Besides the point, the artworks shown ABSOLUTELY capture the spooky musical vibe promised. 10/10! (Caleb Hyles rocks!)
spooky musicals is my all time favorite series of yours!!!! the way you talk about these performances makes me SO EXCITED to hear it and see it for myself, and the art gets so expressive and kind of subjective i love it so much
Even though Halloween has already passed, I've always enjoyed watching these drawing coming to life as the narrator tells a story. So, thanks so much for all the videos you've made
I've been a fan of your works for literal years now, and I've always been really anxious about leaving comments or anything like that-- but I think I've gained enough confidence to simply come in here and say thank you. When I was a younger artist, I had a really hard time with learning how to develop my own art style (and I still am); But seeing how well you manage to pull off such a wide range of characters, colors, poses... It just gave me so much motivation and willingness to press on with art as a hobby. I don't think I'd be in the place I am creatively if I hadn't discovered you all that time ago. Thank you for being such a huge inspiration for me and my craft; I'm looking forward to whatever comes next !
This is probably one of the best one of these horror musical videos yet. It uses one of my favorite musicals (Wicked) and one of my favorite songs from a musical (Confrontation) and does absolutely amazing with both! Thank you for doing this!!!
David Hasslehof also played Captain Hook in a Christmas panto and I'll tell you I've never laughed harder as the chemistry with him a the Crankies was brilliant
When I was little I remember I went to a production of Frankistine and I love that in that show the actors of Frankistine and The Monster flip a coin to decide who plays what role
15:08 MY SISTER LOVES THIS MUSICAL- and I think I know the version you’re talking about at 18:10 she had us watch this version and that was my first exposure to the story😮 (I remember my sister actually getting to meet the actor from the show! It was pretty cool!)
The Jekyll and Hyde musical is by far one of my all time favourite musicals, I feel like the art in this captures the vibe of Confrontation so well! If it was available as a print, I would have that framed on my wall no matter how much money I had to pay to get it, it’s so cool
Oh my goodness Alex I love how your art is so unique. You never stop amazing me on how every piece is different from the ones before, even with the same characters. You've been a big inspiration
I adore the facial expressions of the Dr and of the Shadowy version of the Witch. the Dr looks terrified which you captured amazingly! the Shadow looks angry but grief stricken in a way I've only seen sometimes like you just broke her whole world apart. (I've never seen any of these musicals so I don't know any context also the two "straight" people blushing seeing Him was amazing in the first one lol)
THE HANDS IN ALL OF THEM GRRHHH. I always get so excited for the spooky musical series and it was great to see such great work. your composition is beyond words, really great stuff
Ohhh my god i love Jekyll and Hyde SO MUCH and this?? ELATED! So happy to see one of my favourite horror classics portrayed on this channel! Also, when it comes to many Hyde poses being him hunched over, I must assume that comes from him being stated multiple times to be short, ha ha!
Joey Richter's version of Confrontation is one of my favorite videos of all time and seeing it get a shoutout was a nice surprise in an already amazing video
The way you draw, is so fluid. Makes look easy tô draw. Your art is beautiful, that made my heart Skip a beat. I am very grateful that my friend introduced me to your content. Keep up the good work. You are amazing and so adorable too.
The Rocky Horror piece is really fun and I love it but the Elphaba and Jekyll and Hyde one is just so amazing, like idk how to say this they're have so much emotion and movement, just woww!!

I like how these are some of your favorite videos to make, cuse they are some of my favorite ones to draw
So excited for the musicals!
Wow these pieces are amazing!!! This has got to be my favorite set of pieces thus far!!! If you keep going with this series I'd love to see what you do with The Count of Monte Cristo. If you like voice growls then the song Hell to Your Doorstep would be right up your alley.
Absolutely amazing
I adore no good deed, so I am so happy you drew that song. It’s so dramatic and emotional I love it.
I’ve seen Wicked live and been in a small production of it, and that scene always gets me.
With the growl and gravel in the voice i was seriously like “same. Right there with you bud”
genuinely, the posing and dynamic shapes in each of these pieces blows me away, specifically the piece for wicked. i spent the entire time just staring gobsmacked as it just got better and better
These are amazing!! I would absolutely love to see your take on Little Shop of Horrors!! I feel like that would look amazing in your style
The Jekyll and Hyde drawing is hands down my fav. Love that song
Ok, one thing I absolutely love: the subtle blur added around the drawings to give them depth and dimention is so good! It makes it look so 3D
I love Jeckyll and Hyde musical (specially Anthony Warlow's versions is my favourite version by far) but never knew Caleb Hyles had a version of confrontation 😮After this video I'll definetly check it out! Amazing illustrations as always!! Really cool artworks!
I am absolutely blown away by your art every single time. These dynamic compositions are so stunning
Oh I absolutely love these, they look AMAZING! I look forward to these every year they make me so happy.
They all look fantastic but for me it's the contrast between the poses and expressions in the wicked one that punched harder, it gave me chills
Just beware the David Hasselhoff version. 🤢
WICKED!!!! YAAAAYYYY!!! I'M SO HAPPY U DID WICKED I LOVE THAT SHOW SO MUCH AND I'VE BEEN DYING TO SEE UR INTERPRETATION OF IT!!!💖💖💖💖💖💖💖🎃🎃🎃🎃
These are all bangers this year. My GOD. Jekyll and Hyde. *Chef's kiss*
i like the jekyll and hyde piece most too. it’s very dynamic and well composed, and just fun to look at!
(Caleb Hyles rocks!)
spooky musicals is my all time favorite series of yours!!!! the way you talk about these performances makes me SO EXCITED to hear it and see it for myself, and the art gets so expressive and kind of subjective i love it so much
I didn‘t know I needed him to acknowledge best boy Shigarakis existence this badly. Thank u sir. And this video is as always an absolute treasure
I'm so happy that you mentioned joey richter's confrontation - it's literally my go-to video for whenever i'm feeling down
This is probably one of the best one of these horror musical videos yet. It uses one of my favorite musicals (Wicked) and one of my favorite songs from a musical (Confrontation) and does absolutely amazing with both! Thank you for doing this!!!
I'm so glad rocky horror was in this video
The jekyll & hyde artwork looks absolutely AMAZING!
Oh my gosh the jekyll and hyde one is so gorgeous
THE COMPOSITIONS OH MY GODS!!!!! All these are soooo fudging good :O!!! Will they by chance ever be made into prints?!
This may be my fave entry to Horror Musicals, the physical, dramatic flair and strength of the different textures…. seriously amazing stuff
Joey Richter's version of Confrontation is one of my favorite videos of all time and seeing it get a shoutout was a nice surprise in an already amazing video
I am delighted that you used the BBC version of Rocky Horror! It's my favorite to show people and I love that it's been continuing to circulate.
the Jakyll and Hyde drawing has to be my favorite
The knife inspired paintbrush for your avatar was a wonderful detail 👌🏽🥹
The way you draw, is so fluid. Makes look easy tô draw. Your art is beautiful, that made my heart Skip a beat. I am very grateful that my friend introduced me to your content. Keep up the good work. You are amazing and so adorable too.
The Rocky Horror piece is really fun and I love it but the Elphaba and Jekyll and Hyde one is just so amazing, like idk how to say this they're have so much emotion and movement, just woww!!
