Story1: YTA. It's none of your business. If anything, such behavior should be an indicator to your SIL loyalty and that kind of trait is good for relationships. Don't get stuck on the details that turn out to show your true colors rather than the other person's. Not saying i wasn't you at some point so yeah.
Story2: YTA. I dote on my nephews and nieces but by the time they were 3 we'd all outgrown the baby talk phase. Perhaps you need to ask yourself why you felt upset about your sister not using baby talk with your girl? Is it because you don't want your kid to grow up so fast, or because you don't want your kid to develop a different kind of relationship with world/people than what you think should be? Or is it just that you want people to treat your kid in a special way?? Sometimes we get caught in our unfiltered feelings that we don't realize the damage we're doing to the people we love most until it's too late.

First of all it is not her ex. It is her husband who passed away.

First story: He is definitely a he a**whole why would you say that to a widow she will always live her husband and she will have moments she misses him even with her boyfriend but you were completely out of place. It's none of your business at all!!
Story2: You are the a whole why would you try to force your sister to talk baby talk with a 3 year old yes she's an infant still but she needs normal conversations and she needs to be trained to speak proper English is she going to miss pronounce every word in a sweet voice forever because she will not get no where you can sweet talk with your kids at any age but make sure you are pronouncing your words correctly and correcting them as well. Baby talk is not miss pronouncing words and leaving it as that it's just talking in a soft kind of higher pitched voice in my opinion. It's always a the choice of the parent but what you believe you shouldn't force on others.
I also saw another comment stating that children needs to be spoken to at their level this is also through hence the reason there synonyms, if you grow your child up talking in baby talk it's kind of like spoiling a kid and you will never be able to get upset with your child then you will have problems with discipline.

I have a story about baby talk. My cousin's wife had a beautiful baby girl. I do baby talk with her the few times I got to see her as an infant. My aunt, cousin's mom, told me to stop. When I asked my cousin's wife if it was okay, she said she didn't mind. I think this lady's the a-hole ( just as my aunt was).

Saying, "want milk?" to a baby isn't baby talk - it's communicating in simple language, as opposed to saying, " Would you like a glass of milk?". Same with "go byebye" as opposed to saying "We're going to the mall now." The important thing is to comninicate on a child's level. You're not the asshole, you've just git Miss Manners fir a sister.
And have her watch Russell the cat on TikTok. He's communicating with people using one-word buttons in "baby talk".
