This SHATTERED My Expectations! Asetek La Prima Redefines 'Entry Level' Direct Drive in Sim Racing

  • Entry level usually means 'budget'. €1400 is a lot of money BUT by the time you add a good set of load cell pedals and a steering wheel with loads of LEDs, rotary encoders and 7 way hats into the mix, you'll spend that much on pretty much any brand.
    I think that Asetek has found the secret sauce. This video is worth watching for my force feedback reaction alone. The sections are timestamped and easy to find. ENJOY!

    Fantastic video LD! The very interesting thing about Asetek Sim Sports is the fact that all their entry-level products are all upgradable! For example, the La Prima pedals can be upgraded to the Forte and Invicta Spec. The wheelbase can be upgraded to the Forte Spec and the Steering wheel to the Forte Spec. Asetek will sell you all the components and you will be able to complete all the upgrades by yourself. It's a matter of switching the old PCB and adding the kill switch for the Wheelbase, swapping the throttle and brake mechanisms for the pedals and adding buttons, paddles and a faceplate for the wheel! This is a fantastic idea and it makes me like this brand even more!!!

      I can’t believe they launched an ecosystem with only a formula rim and not a 300mm round wheel. If your only going to have one wheel available it needs to be round and 300mm is the best size compromise that works for everything. Not too big and clunky for formula cars and not too small to be unusable for drifting, rallying or road cars. It turned me off buying into their ecosystem and I’m sure many others too.

    I'm about to pull the trigger on a DD sim rig and am quite heavily leaning towards the Simagic Alpha Mini (+ Heusinkveld Sprint pedals). However, this certainly offers a very interesting value proposition. The only thing that truly bothers me, is the look of the wheel. For lack of a better description, it looks like it came out of a fancy arcade. This is obviously super subjective, but something I'm very particular about.
    They obviously want to keep people within their ecosystem as much as possible, but I think the option to buy the wheel-base seperately wouldn't be a bad option to have. That or a base+pedal set. Especially since they don't have a round wheel option yet and I think a lot of people still prefer that as a more all-round option.

    This seems like a very good deal on face value but check prices for your region! In Canada with taxes and shipping this bundle comes to $2200. A 23nm simagic alpha u and gts wheel is $2000 with taxes and shipping. Fanatec csl elite v2 pedals are $400. Basically for an extra $200 you can have three pedals and almost double the power with a 300mm round wheel that’s more versatile. Just something to consider.

      weak motors, for instance 5nm and less, will more easily clip at the peak force. when clipping, the force is higher than what the wheelbase can provide, you lose all kind of detail in the FFB in those small moments where you need it most, that's mostly why the extreme high end bases provide way more Nm than what you would ever use, to have that overhead and minimize clipping.

    It looked like you mounted the wheelbase incorrectly. The base is supposed to be attached to the front mount with four bolts offset from the corners to take the load and then the plastic front is bolted back on with the four corner bolts you used. By just using the 4 bolts through the plastic all the load is going to crack the plastic front.

    • @LaurenceDusoswa
      @LaurenceDusoswa  11 месяцев назад

      Nope. In fact I have never seen a company prove their Nm capabilities. If a brand’s own software gives a figure, it’s just something that someone coded.
