A very similar experience to me - a mate had a 987 Spyder PDK, took me out in it and I could not stop laughing it was so visceral and so much fun. My line of Fast Fords went, bought a 981 GTS PDK and eventually a 718 Spyder Manual. Very little tempts me to change either (nothing new for certain) - if I had room I’d add a 987 or R for sure. Would love to see more 987 content for sure - I’d love one. Keep up the good work on the channel!
The joy that vehicle brings you is wonderful, some folks don’t get it. God forbid you pickup a vehicle with no radio let alone the bells and whistles that most couldn’t live without, “ my wife “. The purest sound, the wind and sun. A little piece of heaven!
The RS being loud has nothing to do with long trips. It’s the same as any boxster in that regard. It’s when you’re hard on the throttle for an extended period, it can be too much. A long day of attacking mtn passes requires ear protection, imo. But OMG does it sound indecently good. :)
You seem to like that BS. I've had since new and love it. You can add 40-50 hp with a few bolt-ons. Amazing and reasonably affordable. Parts to add: intake manifold, throttle body, engine tune (COBB), full headers and exhaust (Soul). I also added Numeric shifter and cables as well as anti-gravity battery. She's just on 2800 lbs and running about 360-370 hp. I've had zero mechanical problems with her in 14 yrs. Just a ball.
An engine mount that fails after only 3,500 miles? That sounds like a design fault, unacceptable. What if you weren’t under a warranty? How much would Porsche be ripping you off for? Just got rid of my 987 s, one big bill too many. Do miss it though, they are great to drive. Great vid👍
What is it with these ‘active’ oil filled engine mounts? I had both go on my RS6 and one go on my 991.1. Just picked up a brand new 992.1 GTS last Saturday, here’s hoping they’ve sorted it by now!
Great video. I am toying with the idea of changing my 981 Spyder to a 718 Spyder....but I'm struggling to justify the extra £10- £15k....and your 987 drive sort of confirmed this.
What a geniune review that was! The 718 is probably better in almost every aspect. I own a manual 981 Cayman S with PSE and decided against the 718 2.5/2.0L due to the sound. In tunnels, the 981 makes you feel like you're driving a Ferrari
I have a BMC air filter and SOUL Performance comp headers and two way valve system on my 987.2 Boxster. Sounds like a GT3. Also 6spd manual with Numerics short throw shifter. Awesome…transformed the car. Why don’t you install it yourself? PS: Love your marine VLOGs as well. I live on my 42 ft JEANNEAU sailboat (42iP with performance rig/sails etc). Your Spyder is beautiful.
Oh, God. Mine was just replaced as well and I am hearing so many others saying the other one fails soon after that. Maybe that’s what will follow for my car as well. Let’s see.
I don’t get the fascination (now). They did when I was about 11 though. Once I took the red pill this stuff means nothing to me anymore. Still like all your videos though 😊.

Awesome of him letting you drive his car.

That white Spyder sounds so smooooooooth at higher revs! Love it! 😍
I love all three gens of the spyder for different reasons. But the 987 is somehow just that little bit more special.

Nice fun filled video sysman thanks

Unless you wanted PDK I don't really see any reason to change. And the sound of the 981 Spyder is epic which you can never get in the 718!

That 987 spyder was pretty special. Have you thought about installing the Cargraphic valve controller? Made a big difference in my 992
Already have one installed. Did it from new.
Any more thoughts on the BMC filters?
2011 BS had 320 bhp from stock.
I’ve got the 718 GT4 and same problem with the engine mount 4000 miles
And they are apparently just replacing them with the same items that are failing.
Does your spyder have std exhaust please?
