The scary thing i couldn't stop thinking about while watching this is that if you theoretically had a telescope that allowed you to look super closely at the surface of the Earth from this location, you would be seeing prehistoric humans from a world 16'000 years ago. Because a lightyear is the speed that light travels in one earth year, the light that reaches your retinas is from 16'000 years ago!
Not to worry, because of light dispersion you'd need a telescope the size of a small galaxy to get that resolution, and it would still not catch enough light from Earth specifically for it to be visible.
I can only imagine how that would feel to a person realistically if they took a moment to catch the scenery. Thinking of how far humans have come and the fact that you're standing on a planet outside the galactic plane with the entire Milky Way within your field of view. You could block it out with the palm of your hand. I think I would be frozen speechless for a little while. What's next now, the Magellanic Clouds?

This answered the question I had. If you go outside the galaxy in the game, is the sky just black? It is! Still amazes me that they can render 400 billion stars.
This video almost makes me wish that I was born around a time where humans had the technology to witness something this beautiful in real life.
I think it’s incredible that they even have a skybox working for that
Imagine eventually someone could see the Milky Way like that, that is an absolute dream of mine, even if it was a one way journey
@@gaittevansong yes but it’d be one hell of a view to die looking at
I always come back to this video, it's the entire reason I love exploring in ED
You know people sometimes ask me: "Whats your happy place?"
And I simply respond: "This, this right here is my happy place, 16,000 Light Years outside of the galaxy..."
Quite possibly my favourite Elite Dangerous video! Very well put together.
+Cydrann Thanks were happy you liked it
that was amazing and as a result i'm getting back in my diamondback tonight.
+LurkingFinger That makes our day!
As somebody, who struggles to get to the guardian sites, I look up to you so goddamn much for this.
Quite a sight
Fantastic Editing. My Dream always was to get to Magelanic Clouds, find a nice blue star and watch galaxyrise.
+Tiranozauras that would great:)
If only there is a way to go to andromeda (Before galactic collision pls)0
Christoffer Johansson and then you'd run out of main sequence Stars halfway through
Halfway? I think it'll be happen almost on start
Christoffer Johansson WTF
Raxxla
@@softan to be fair thats fairly short compared to how long it would take at the speed of light
Man you make the game seem like so much fun. When I play, I'm like "Ok it's going to take me an hour to do this, 2 hours to go here, 3 hours to finish these tasks and fuck I'm an hour late for work!" It's a grind to do anything. Even exploring you just want to bash your head in...
Yeah that’s how it feels for us too! Just got to pretend it’s the best thing ever and people seem to believe it. ;) don’t get fired!
Dude found the Eye of the Universe, holy cow
Wow just wow! Awesome job Cmdr and to the others that helped you. This is where ED really shines once strip away the haphazard game play and THE GRIND, you get this amazingly beautiful playground to have fun in and showcase to people. Thanks man👍
Nice editing well done, I decided to start play elite again
+Harry Chu great! Hope to see you out there
This was beyond amazing, and having been to beagle point, it really gives me a feel for the size and spectrum of that all.
Great job CMDRs!
GROUND CONTROL TO MAJOR TOOOOOM!!
This is why I love elite dangerous
nice video. 3:04 reminds me of a bunch of noisy kids spoiling the atmosphere. There's always someone who spoils the quietness.
hahaha =)
Roguey well being as realistically there is no sound in space, there would be no way to disturb the sound. In this game however, you can
Life out here seems so incredibly sad but so beautiful at the same time, must have been amazing to see and explore
2:26
So, it turns out that some of the black holes in ED is actually dangerous, because they're can cause a heart attack
Very nice video. Love those shots, especially the black hole at the end.
+Gilgamesh Thank you. We were happy with that last one :)
Shit, I've only made it as far as 1.9k above the galactic plane, the view from behind me was terrifying but awe inspiring. Best experience in ED so far.
Only! That's mad dedication, bro.
Ross // Rossilaz58 there was nothing left to jump to at that point. I was disappointed cause I wanted to keep going.
This video and it's musical score really inspired me to write a new series and get back into writing. Thanks :)
Awesome! Let us know when you publish the next video
This guy needs more subscribers.
this is really, one of he best video montage of all time, seriously this is perfect
Thanks! Too bad we couldn't do it with the new camera suite
Hello my yellow anaconda friends! How this is possible You reached so high? :D Neutron stars or frontier teleport You? ^^
+SpaceBear Magic ;)
That explains everything xD
I think the neutron star highway.
They have one on the system to return too I think.
It's on the beta server and they got frontier to put them there as a birthday favour. They weren't supposed to make and post this video and they actually had to trick frontier as to who they were ;) I think the story is on kotaku
+Uberfish really it's on Kotaku?! Link? Or are you thinking of the PC Gamer article:?
This is probably my favorite video ever and I'm just really sad that I will never be able to see that view
The music makes me feel like I'm playing Arkanoid on the nes
The fact that they put a planet that far out shows this games depth 1000 times better than anything else in it
