I would stop existing as a person. I know it sounds silly for a married adult but I think I would call non emergency line to get police unable to think or function as a person and ask them to refer me to one of the many cleaning crews that deals with suicides and body clean up to go in that room and 'deal with it' because I would not be able to cope. Sure I could look online and 'call them myself' but in the moment I don't think I could function and would depend on a public servant for some kind of help or advice in such an extreme scenario.
Alternatively: Maybe I wouldn't lose my mind and think of his Native American cultural norms and go bury that piece at the unmarked site of his relatives, since it is not legal to bury remains anywhere you feel like. It's in an extremely rural area that belonged to the tribe before things got so divided up over time.

I’ll share a gross medical story from Reddit with a positive outcome.
OP was a nurse who had an elderly male patient. Patient is blind in one eye, and on the other side of his face he had a cancerous growth on the other side of his face. He would come in to get treatment, but ultimately could no longer come in because the growth had consumed that side of his face to his eye, effectively leaving him completely blind. OP and another nurse ended up having to do home visits to give him care because he didn’t have anyone in his life who could bring him in.
Anyways, one day OP goes to see him. She has him lean forward over his sink so she can clean the growth-and the growth _falls off his face._ When OP looks in the sink, it’s literally filled with decaying flesh and _maggots._ What they think happened is that a fly laid its egg in the pateint’s face, and the maggots that hatched literally ate the cancer off his face. He was able to see out of that eye again.

Interestingly enough, much like leeches, maggots are raised in sterile conditions to be used similarly to this
Maggots don't eat healthy, living tissue and, while cancer isn't tissue we want to be there, it is healthy and alive. Unless the guy's cancer randomly cured itself and the cells started to die and rot, there'd be nothing the maggots could digest. So, no, maggots didn't cure this imaginary dude's face cancer.
Eyebleach from a friend of mine: she’s a nurse, working in a big city. Lady comes in with her kid, for her flu shots. The little girl had a bright blue backpack, covered in stickers and pins. The mother had to go to the restroom. As soon as she left, the girl went diving into her book bag, and pulled out a teddy bear, with a little baseball jersey. It was her baby brother’s bear, and it had a little hole in its side, and asked if my friend could fix him. My friend always has a little sewing kit on her, so she broke it out and began stitching up the bear when the mum came back. The mum was super embarrassed, but my friend reassured her, and fixed the bear. And that’s how my friend got the nickname Doc McStuffins for half a year, lol

Recently I had to get a deep cleaning done at the dentist - which takes four visits as they go over different quardrants of your mouth to scrape and clean off calculus(mine wasn't very bad, I just hadn't had a dental cleaning in a few years due to moving). During the time, I chatted with my doctor and got to learn a little about her. At one point during cleaning number 2, something fell out of my pocket and she asked what it was. I picked it up and showed off a pretty little blue rock(sodalite, I think?) and she was enamoured. I showed her the lapis lazuli I had in my bag from school activities - i'm a Geology major - and she told me her daughter had started becoming fascinated with river rocks recently. Being the Rock Drug Dealer I was, I decided to get a small collection of rocks together for the daughter and brought it on the third visit!
It had all sorts of things; quartz, tigers eye, pyrite, labradorite, adventurine, etc. I gave it to her with a magnifying glass, and she was very excited to give it to her daughter. A week or two later I was in for a cavity filling, and I met her in the hall on the way out - she said her daughter LOVED the rocks and was really excited to put them in her doll house with the others.
I'm a lapidarist, aka I cut rock and make it gem, semiprecious and precious. Team rock! My mom had a...almost obsession with collecting rocks when we'd go up to the mountains. I was always begging for some of the pretty tumbled stones that all of the gift shops sold. Eventually they caved and I got like a pound of tumbled chips. No idea where they went...must be buried in my closet yet. Perhaps I can bezel set some into simple earrings if I do find them.

I've not dealt with this personally, however a coworker told me about it. She had worked oncology for years. She said she admitted this elderly woman who had cancer on her leg. She'd been taking care of her sick husband & missed some treatment appointments. Well, Dee said the dressing was fairly clean so the woman had at least been changing it. However, Dee told me she was dreading to remove the dressing & had built up her courage to see the outcome after going without cleansing & debridement for so long. Instead, she told me that it was the cleanest wound she had ever seen! The maggots had eaten away all the infection & dead/damaged tissue. I don't think they "got the cancer" of course, but they are good cleaners!
I hope the case of the old lady screaming in pain they had the home CLOSED DOWN!!
For the first story, any doctor worth their salt will tell you this:
Do NOT try to remove impaled objects yourself. It’s one thing if you have a splinter or such of course, but anything like described, you get to the ER ASAP and get into proper medical procedure.

After i got my wisdom teeth removed my right side gum swelled up causing pain and soreness.
A dentist I saw thought it was just inflamatory reaction to the blunt trauma of the extraction and suggested pain meds.
it was actually an abcess in the cavity. And i found that out when after days of discomfort, I felt a hot lump on my jaw and pushed it when infront of mirror looking at my mouth.
The abscess exploded and about a teaspoon amount of puss coated my tounge and inner mouth, and bits like a pimple missiled out of my mouth onto the mirror.
Aged bacterial pus is the worst tasting thing ever. Shit would taste better. And since it was a deep one i had to constantly gargle with mouthwash to get rid of the piquant aftertaste that would ozz from it.
I had that taste and the strong metal taste of blood in my mouth for 2 days. Couldn't eat, could sleep, couldn't stop spitting even if i caused bleeding.
I was a changed man after that. Shit, puss, phlegmn, doesn't phase me. But the smell and taste of blood or bacteria I go really faint.
Oh my goodness, I'm glad you didn't die from that...

My late mother was a nurse. She had an in-home patient that another nurse claimed was just throwing tantrums. Ma pulled back the patient's bedding and found that the patient had a dicubulus ulcer down to the hip bone and tons of blood and pus ran out of it. Needless to say after my ma did as much as she could to render 1st aid and control the bleeding, she called 911.
The old tampon: I can beat that! Sort of! When I delivered my 1st baby, of course it was all new to me, & I wasn't a nurse yet. My Mama couldn't have babies so I was adopted, in other words she didn't know any better either. Anyway, a few days after delivery, I noticed that I smelled bad. I tried every thing I knew to stop it. I went to the infirmary & reported this on about the 7th postpartum day. I think they thought I just wasn't cleaning myself properly! I told them, & my Mama, it was like something had crawled up in me & died! They just sent me home! I ended up sitting in a tub of warm water & baking (edit: soda - BAKING SODA!) for at least 30 minutes 4 times a day, yet the smell kept getting worse!! So another week or so went by (approx 3 weeks postpartum, perhaps longer. That was over 40 y/ago! Hard to remember specifics!), & my husband & I went to a movie. I had to go to the restroom, & when I did, I felt something slide out of me!! I wrapped it up in several zip top bags, & put it into the diaper bag & after the movie we took it to the infirmary. It was a wad of surgical sponges! Left by the Doctor after delivery!! Even wrapped as much as it was, the smell was so bad, I had to launder the diaper bag numerous times to get rid of it! And yes, MY odor went away all but immediately! Moral of the story, if you KNOW something isn't right, tell the doc, & keep on telling until someone listens!
I was cleaning a guy up who came into the ED. He was complaining of back pain. While I was helping him into his gown...His "gentleman" had fallen off from his uncontrolled diabetes. He was also pretty obese and couldn't see the breakdown. He was so blasé about it. I will never forget that guy.

About 50 years ago I was working in the A&E department of a busy hospital. A gentleman in his 60’s told me he had something stuck in his rectum. He showed me a stick about 20mm diameter and about 35 cms long. He told me that the wooden ball on the end had become dislodged when he was using it to scratch his itchy piles. My finger was not long enough to feel the wooden ball, but a plain Xray did show a shadow suggestive of a foreign body some 10 or so cms in diameter. We called upon the services of the obstetric registrar who carried out a forceps delivery The man was discharged after a few hours. For a number of years the reassembled stick and ball were displayed in the resident’s room in A&E.
We would hang all the stuff pulled out of rectums on our Pathology Lab X-Mas tree!!!!!!!!!!!

I had a nursing home resident who was a non-compliant diabetic. He had a neurotic toe we had to do dressing changes on. We had a solution ( it was years ago so I don't recall the solution name, but it smelled like hydrogen peroxide), but it was used to "control the smell " which was so bad it could the bandages only masked the smell a little. Anyway I was doing his wound change when his necrotic toe literally broke off, and was hanging by a small bit of flesh that was evidently not completely dead. Every nurse has their one thing that grosses them out, I have never liked feet, and this was one of my nightmares coming true. And the smell was HORRIFIC, as I said the bandage only mildly stifled the smell, it could be smelt in the hallway up to 2 doors away
The only one that hit me hard personally was the homeless man with the messed up toenails that the foot doctor had to cut.
(Sigh) I as a kid used to bite my toes, and once a tongue has tasted something, IT Never Forgets.
Think about it. Just look at anything and rub your tongue across the roof of your mouth. If you can taste it, you at some point did put it in your mouth or at least your tongue on it.
I watch toenail trimming videos for fun! It's right up there with pimple popping and cyst removal.

I was born with an extra sinus. The ear/nose/throat doctor was downright bewildered when he looked at the CT scan results. The extra sinus has been removed, but I have chronic issues.
I had a dog bite on my cheek. My ER doctor buddy sutured me up in the kitchen to avoid reports. He said let him know if anything changes. A few days later, I didn't feel so well and I saw a pea sized drop of greenish yellow pus. Next morning, I steamed a hot mug of water under it repeatedly to soften it up and make the skin pliable. Got into a really hot shower and bided my time until I was ready to apply pressure, as the swelling was pretty intense. I closed my eyes because I know I didn't want to see anything from inside the wound and applied pressure evenly and made sure I was standing in the shower stream to avoid having to see the gore. I opened my eyes after I felt great relief and was pleased not to have to see what was disgusting, even in a pea sized amount. Shower performed a job well done... until I turned and looked and saw the entire shower wall, about 4 feet across had a streaming, dripping red, green and yellow pus. I mean, it looked like something from a gory horror film.
I made it through the maggots, the worms, the banana toenails, the butt warts and the poopy flapper without batting an eye.
One brief mention of roaches at 10:05 and I found out how that poor nurse felt.
There's just so much one can take, and it's 1 cockroach. ONE. I've lost faith in humanity.

Story #12 similar story! I had a tampon stuck in me for a week and didn’t realize it. I thought i took it out. I noticed the smell and discharge and immediately got antibiotics for what I thought was BV. Idk how I managed to get the tampon out (I think I started to feel it again so I started to reach in there and it smelled soooo bad once I got it out) my bf at the time was right about he felt like he was hitting something during sex 😅

Not a doctor, I was an orderly in an emergency room. Got a patient in--street person, alcoholic, cut seven ways from Sunday with a broken bottle in a fight. I had to clean him up well enough for surgery. I never could tell how many layers of socks or underwear he had on--they had melted together with body dirt. I had to cut with a scalpel and use a putty knife to get it all off, disregarding the body odor and lice. He was "awake"but wasn't going to need anesthesia. Small feet: It was a custom in some east European and Asian cultures to bind little girls' feet to keep them small, as this was"more feminine." Then ridiculously small pointed shoes were always worn. Seen a lot of mangled feet on old immigrant women's feet. in the ER.
Didn't move me, I once shared a ward in hospital with a girl who had been kicked in the face by a horse after falling off, likely fatal. Soon as she came in, my ward (including a young boy being prepped for shunt surgery) all tried to go to sleep. The mood of 10 very grumpy kids was evident. The kid did get his surgery done I was told next morning. The doctor apologised to me and mother, he had enough of her screaming too.

It's weird that they always clean out and remove the maggots. Meanwhile the maggots are probably what keeps these patients alive and keeps the infection (relatively) under control for so long. Antibiotics are basically useless against necrotized tissue, since the blood supply (and the antibiotics it carries) can't reach it). The necrotizing tissue then basically acts like a stronghold for the infection that it can always retreat to, then come out more resistant to any antibiotic used.
I think a better way to go about it would be to carefully remove the maggots and set them aside, clean as much of the necrotic flesh away as possible, place the "indigenous" maggots back on/in the wound where they were, replace any dressings with clean ones and give the patient a regimen of oral antibiotics and give them instructions to remove the bandage daily and remove any dead maggots or flies from the wound then replace with new bandage. The antibiotics will fight off the infection from the still living side while the maggots eat away at the infection where the blood supply, thus the immune system and antibiotics can't reach it.
They remove and dispose of the "indigenous" maggots, because they aren't sterile (and they aren't approved by the FDA). And, they don't send patients with dead, rotting tissue home, because they won't heal - they remove the tissue first.
The problem is that the "wild" maggots don't only eat dead or dying flesh, but living tissue as well. In animals, an infestation is known as fly strike and can kill if not treated quickly and effectively.
@@DerpDevilDD Sure, but I can't imagine a human can remove it all (unless they take a lot of living tissue as well). Where as the maggots can remove it with almost cellular precision. Your right that the maggots aren't sterile but anything that they are contaminated with is already in the wound anyway (since they likely hatched there) where as new maggots might be sterile but if they aren't risk bringing new strains of infection into the situation.
Also, I thought maggots were approved by the FDA to assist in removing necrotic tissue though I'm not sure how that is even relevant since the maggots are indigenous to the wound. It would be like saying that white blood cells or skin aren't FDA approved for preventing or treating infection so they can't be left on or in the patient to do their job. The medical stuff didn't introduce the maggots, they are simply moving them out of the way and moving them back (like they would with an article of clothing or someone's hair if it was in the way).

Only specific species of maggots, grown and handled in very specific ways are FDA approved. And do you realize how absurd and asinine it is to say, "they're not sterile, but anything they are contaminated with is already in the wound anyway"? If harmful bacteria and contaminants don't need to be removed from a wound, why bother cleaning it in the first place? Ffs. No one removes clothing or hair from an open wound _and puts it back._ Are you nuts?
It's not medically sound to leave random wild maggots in a wound and no one gets sent home with a wound that contains dead tissue. Those are the two main reasons no sane, responsible doctor would ever do what you've suggested with your terrible take-home maggot suggestion.
@@melissajarvis4829 I know people say maggots are eating live tissue in fly strike, but they don't actually eat live tissue. It seems far more likely the ammonia they excrete onto the animals' skin causes wounds and tissue death, which the flies then feed on and release more ammonia. Ammonia poisoning is what kills in fly strike. That's what all the yellow residue is from - the ammonia.

Also: in Year 5 (9-10 years old) we read Juliana Koepke's memoir about being the sole survivor of a plane crash into the Amazon basin. What amazed us was not the maggots in her wounds but the matter of fact way she described digging them out. It was actually rather cool for our age group that she survived and kids can be deliciously gross about maggots etc but yeah, that was a step too far. (The worms crawl in, the worms crawl out, they crawl in thin and crawl out stout, did you ever think you were going to die...)

My mom is a neonatologist (doctor for new borns). She has STORIES. I mean S T O R I E S. This one was wild even for her. It's also incredibly sad.
At first all went as if as always: pregnant woman in labour comes in, complains about being in way to much pain, gets checked - something is not right. After a thorough check up, it seems like it's a small problem. Sometimes babies turn the wrong way and try to go out feet first. It may cause horrible problems up to death of both mom and the baby, but is very easy to fix, so it is not considered a red alert emergency. Anyways, nurses call gyno and she touches woman's belly here and there, looking for babie's head to turn him. She searches and searches and searches. Nothing. She tries again. Nothing. Minutes pass by. She tries again. Nothing. Gyno, getting alarmed, calls for another doctor. Another doctor comes, but she too simply can not locate the head matter how hard she tries.
As they start to discuss between themselves that maybe the baby twisted himself into a knot or something, babie's mom, in a calm every-day voice, says:
- Oh yeah, he has no head.
Dead silence ...
- What. what do you mean the kid has no head?
- He doesn't have one.
It was true. Woman ended up giving birth feet first and my mom was called in to check on the newborn. Unnecessary, but a protocol dictates my mom has to verify the death. There was no need check the vitals or a pulse of course, poor guy had no brain and only some ... um ... stump of bone and skin where his head should have been. Dead the second his mother's heart had stopped moving blood in his body.
And this is not all!! Second WTF moment came a few moments lated, when the lady asked my mom "can you do something?" and mom had to explain that it is not humanly possible to revive the kid and make him live. Most heartbreaking WTF i ever heard of.
Lady was deeply religious and there probably was no explaining to her that in no way in hell or heaven this baby would possibly ever live. My mom has met many people that refused abortion even when the fetus would definitelly never live or grow enough to be a baby, but this one, wew, this one stood out.

13:48 I got polyuria+polydipsia (I was drinking and peeing gallons) with a HR of ~120 (fitbit) that wouldn't go down even when laying down/trying to sleep, went to hospital and was put in psych ward. got home and found out I had used *iodized* salt instead of normal, and eaten 2-3 large meals with this excessive amount of iodine before my symptoms had started. story reminded me of how much I despise doctors who don't do due diligence because the patient must just be crazy.

good lord this is BAD! this is one of the only videos like it that I have ever had to pause, I have seen videos of the swamps of Dagobah story without even gagging, my mom was a nurse in rural America, my dad worked in a number of nasty jobs, I grew up in rural KY (like half an hour from civilization rural) in the 2000s, I have played postal 4, doom, GTA and Hatred, my tolerance to nasty things is rather high.

My daughter was a nurse with the Houston Fire Department on “the box” for 11 years. On her days off worked in the ER at local hospitals. One would think that was enough, but no she worked in Afghanistan for 10 years handling everything from folks with cuts to the victims of suicide bombers. She even assisted in embalming three members of one of her co-workers whose family had been killed in a terrorist attack. Fortunately she happened to leave Afghanistan for a dental appointment in the states the Sunday before SHTF. She still works the ER and is currently on an Indian reservation in the American Southwest. Her stories pretty much mirror what was presented here.

No no no I lose had to leave room a few times
not to long ago I was getting really bad headaches so I went to the doctors and they gave me these really strong pain meds.
Eventually it got so bad when I tried to move I puked. One fateful day I had a seizure and they sent me to a hospital were they removed an absolutely gigantic brain tumour.
Only #15 bothered me, and that just upset me. Poor girl.
