Watching Carole King get excited that Aretha can still slay the song she wrote for her after all those decades makes me cry every single time🥺
That woman in the audience is Carole King, who wrote the song. Arethas version is just gorgeous!
The Queen of Soul. Nobody like her.
70+ & had stage 4 pancreatic Cancer no one knew Aretha was sick here but her beautiful voice never left her ! She was anointed & she sang her heart out here ! Love her Forever & this is one of my fav Live Performances by her 😢❤❤❤🫶🏽🫶🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽🥰 Sang Retha .. The lady with the blond hair is Carole king who co- wrote this song with her hubby for Aretha that’s why she so excited hearing her song it live ! Queen Of Soul RIP beautiful Aretha
Magnificent.....
..elderly, ill and still... utterly amazing 👏 😍.
I remember watching this live and freaking out. I started crying. It was legendary and NOBODY could do that(the fur coat bit) but Aretha, the Queen of Soul indeed. Cheers kidders. 💕
Aretha is the Legend of Legends. The depth of her vocal talent and connection to her songs is unmatched.
Carole King, who is receiving a tribute in 2015 at the annual Kennedy Center Honors (extremely prestigious award to the best of the best) wrote this song, and many more. It was recorded by Carole on her 1971 “Tapestry” album, which was one of the top selling albums of the 20th century. Aretha recorded it, to wide acclaim, and is singing it in honor of Carole. Aretha received her tribute from The Kennedy Center Honors in 1994.
It was originally recorded by Aretha in 1967.
rolf svensson Yes, my mistake.
She was a Great Singer real soulful❤She is sadly missed🙏
Ms. King wrote all these amazing hits. Genius.
Aretha is a legitimate fucking Queen! What a legend!!!
The mic drop to end all mic drops RIP Queen Aretha
Aretha was the Queen of Music!!!
Aretha mustered all her strength, sick with cancer, to go out on stage and pay tribute to Carole King.
Growing up in Detroit we'd often hear the story about how Aretha in all her personal and business dealings never raised her voice to anyone -- she didn't have to.
Magnificent is the perfect word to describe this performance Sam. Spot on.💕
QUEEN!!! 👏👏👏
As others have pointed out: this was Kennedy Center Honors (presented by the President) to Carol King and George Lucas (sitting next to King). They both are wearing the medal which is the rainbow ribbon around their necks. This is the American equivalent of an Order of the British Empire. The audience is so reverential because (she's amazing, and) Franklin was seriously ill and her singing was a huge honor to King.
R.E.S.P.E.C.T. is another great hit for Aretha Franklin.
I loved this- both when it happened and when you reacted. She is a QUEEN
They were all there that night to pay honor and respect to Carole King. Aretha Franklin was singing to Carole King. They weren't there for Aretha.
That was at the Kennedy Center. The Obama's were there. The blonde lady is Carole King who wrote some Aretha Franklin songs.
This is annual tribute to artists, sort of lifetime achievement awards, why Obama’s there (Trump admin has not attended). This was to honor Carol King, who wrote many epic songs, including this. Aretha was already sick by this time so many surprised to see and hear her, into her 70s, playing piano. This song was one of Arethas many hits (she charted with more than 100 songs over her career) Aretha was known as “the Queen of Soul” Aretha was one paying tribute.
She did this for Carrol King who wrote it for her. She was in her 70s
Another notch in your musical belts when it comes to Classics, mates! Just a bit more, and you're ready for the Blues Brothers. (So you'll know folks, like Steve Cropper and Duck Dunn.)
Gwen McCrae - Keep The Fire Burning. It's a banger. Slick bass and it has a signature disco/ soul / funk style.
One of those unforgetable moments❤
I would love for you to react to Dr feelgood by Aretha Franklin in the Concertgebouw Amsterdam!! i havent seen a whole lot of people reacting to it, but it's so so good!!
Carol King wrote this song and Aretha had her biggest hit with it , Carol King wrote over 180 songs
I think the blonde lady is Carole King - a superstar herself. I also find Gerry Goffin and Carole King wrote that tune (among about a billion other hits). Carole used to be the piano player for James Taylor.
Aybody know if this was at one of Obama's Inaugural Balls?
Kennedy Center Honors are given to recognize American artists for their whole careers. In this case, the songwriter, Carole King, (who did a heck of a lot more than play piano for James Taylor--she wrote some of his best known songs) is being honored. She's in the audience with rainbow medal. Presidents and FIrst Ladies traditionally attend.....but not currently cause...no one wants him there.
@@michaelloveland1330 no,it was to honor several celebrities and Ms Carol King was one of them!!!
Brilliant
😊
All presidents go to the Kennedy Center awards they have a preliminary ceremony at the white house where the awards the medals around the chest. The only one who didn’t go was Trump.
