I remember someone summarizing the problem as writers misinterpreting "strong female character" to mean a female character who is strong (powerful), instead of a strong character (well written) who is female
What a great video! I was about to say that it is perfect, every word gold; but then you missed the opportunity to name Katee Sackhoff by name when talking about Starbuck. Otherwise, a spot on, near perfect video! Thank you!
Where I live (in the USA) this is a phenomenon that has also infected TV commercials. If the commercial features a male-female couple (whether husband and wife or just friends), you can count on the female being smarter than the male, whether it's about when to buy life insurance or when to trade in their old car for a newer one. There's one ad that takes place in a restaurant with one guy at the table with a couple of women, and of course he gets verbally dressed down as the women reach over to steal his favorite food (fried shrimp) from his plate. Once you notice this kind of thing, it's impossible not to.
0:21 Sexism like what specifically?? even back then there were Capable women & both genders Had positive & negative portrayals id say "Sexism" has only gotten Worse by making male characters More dumb, evil and female characters are unlikeable & do horrid things for "Empowerment".
No mention of The Expanse? Well if you haven't seen it, that show has a wealth of great female characters who are strong in many different ways as well as flawed. The problem is that a lot of the "strong female characters" we are getting are written specifically to be more masculine, flawless, and better than all the men around them, which makes for a boring character.
there is nothing wrong with strong female characters. But that strength must not come from weakening or villainizing men. You can be strong and well written I would not put Rey Skywalker on the list of porky Witen Women. however I would put Marvel, DC, Ghostbusters 2016, Velma on that list. some Good female characters are on The Owl House, Amphibia, Ghost and Molly McGee, Moon Girl, She-Ra,Kilo,Hilda, The Loud House. There are many ways to write song charters. making those around them weak is not a way. Making the jerks is not away. Writing has been bad on AL live action things since 2000 animation has been far superior. adult targeted animation is also trash compared to the far superior anime.
I won't overlook bad writing just to get strong female characters (e.g. Ghostbusters 2016) that are forced and cringy and don't do women in cinema any good. A great example of forced feminism for the sake of feminism is a show like She-Hulk. She-Hulk stuffed over-the-top--most men are a-holes, and we need no man's help--feminism down our throats... honestly the only good female character in that show was the drunk party girl Madisynn, and I totally mean that... I freakin' loved Madisynn. They should just make a show with Madisynn and Wong going on adventures together--I also mean that I would totally watch that.
She-Hulk was a HUGE miscalculation and missed opportunity by Disney/Marvel, because when portrayed as she was written in the best comics stories (with the Avengers and with the FF, and to some degree the wall breaking parody comic that John Byrne did, which the show is based on in premise), she was AWESOME! There was no need to belittle Bruce and claim she was better just because she was a women. I literally stopped watching at that point. After a while, I did try again, only to be vastly disappointed by their utter disrespect to even the She-Hulk character by making her 'strong female character', instead of the badass that she already was! It could have been really poignant regarding how depressed and down she was as a human being that she rejected her real self in favor of remaining She-Hulk all the time (I know, too adult a premise) and compared it to Bruce - he wants to regain his humanity, she felt so down on herself that she sought to eliminate it - potentially thought provoking stuff, and has, you know, character development all over it, all from being respectful to both characters. But no, we got woke. And now, may Disney go broke! :-)

Great Characters make Great Movies. Male or females.

Sigourney Weaver was incredible except Alien 3.

The Expanse is a must watch for any sci-fi fan and has great characters of both genders.
The Expanse is excellent.

Please, someone to show this short video to the echo chamber woke writer's rooms. We have too many of them this days.

Wow.
Enough.. back to the usual..in men oriented films..women wont go see or view them
The strong female character does not need to end. What needs to end is crappy lame ass writing. That is what needs to end.
Yeserie bob, youse hit it on da head.
