Princess Leia. Hands down. I absolutely hate it when people describe her as a damsel in distress. They couldn't be more wrong.
anyone calling her a damsel in distress, doesn't remember the movies lol.
same with padme honestly. both of them were total badasses. compassionate, confident, capable.
Sigourney Weaver is just awesome in anything she touches. Ellen Ripley has to be my favorite female character put to film.
Aliens will always be top Tier badass sigourney.
💯
Don't forget that certain other badass female character in Aliens.
@@stevieveringus3857 the alien queen? 🤣

If I had to pick my favorite female hero(assuming it isn't limited to main protagonists), it's Toph from the Last Airbender. Toph is such a great example of a female who is tough and the muscle, but also has layers to her. Her blindness gives her great powers in Earthbending, but she has to deal with not being able to read or write and can't swim. Also, despite coming from a well off family, she doesn't entertain high class society because it reminds her of her folks. On top of being a bit bratty and stubborn, these are flaws that do hold her back, causing friction in the team. On top of that, we also see Toph liking Katara's motherly affections, not getting the same kind from her own mother, and also wanting to be feminine. In short, Toph has layers to her. She served as a great mentor to Aang and her journey was one where she was able to be who she is and not judged for what she lacked, but what she could do: fight through Earthbending.
Well said.
Great choice
She's easily in my top 5.
Alien(s) - Ripley
Toph is awesome.
Lois Lane in the 90s Superman animated series was tough and feminine too
Lois lane in smallville too ❤️😌
Sg1 and farscape had amazing female characters.
Aeryn was awesome
Loved Farscape!!
Not to mention for the most part Samus Aran is a great female character.
Zhaan, Chiana, Aeryn and later Grazer were all awesome characters. Farscape greatest Sci Fi of all time
Ironically the women in farscape were cool and Carter was cool but when they brought the two farscape actors to Stargate those characters were terrible. They desteoyed Carter in favor of a "strong" (arrogant, backstabbing, criminal) female character.
"It's not the size of the dog in the fight, it's the size of the fight in the dog"
struggle and tragedy is how you create a good story and characters
"There's a benefit to losing, when you get to learn from your mistakes."
Horror has been doing strong female characters since the 70s, 80s, 90s, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre had Sally Hardesty, Halloween had Laurie Strode, A Nightmare on Elm Street had Nancy Thompson, Hellraiser had Kirsty Cotton, Scream had Sidney Prescott
Like the last,6 to 10 years they try to force it 😅there many great movies with female leads
Who else remembers The Boss from Metal Gear Solid 3? I remember that she was such a badass and compelling character too. That game was mind blowing back in the day. 🔥
Sniper Wolf
*Salutes*
Kim Possible was a pretty memorable hero of mine growing up.
Same here, and also Powerpuff girls
Any woman from "Firefly." Zoe, Kaylee, Inara, River, and recurring character Saffron. Say what you want about Joss Whedon, he created more interesting women in 14 episodes than Kathleen Kennedy could with an entire trilogy of feature films.
Hell yeah. Take my like 👍 ❤️❤️
Hell yes!
Cant stop the signal Mal.
Shiny 😊
Yeah Yosaffbridg was awesome
18:38 EXACTLY, why the hell didn’t they go through with it? Why did they decide some boring side character lady from the DLC was a better option? Just because they pulled it off with Ellie doesn’t mean it works for everyone!
Who? I forgot lol what game?
@@HUKottonmouthkings I am guessing it is Horizon.
Also, in The Forbidden West's DLC, Aloy can possibly get into a relationship with Seyka, depending on choices, so it's pretty much hinted that Aloy is completely lesbian and that was always the plan.
Sarah Ripley and Sarah Connor are my two favorite female heroes. One fought a ship full of aliens and the other fought cyborgs. Both did the damn thing
Its Ellen Ripley, although we know who you mean
@@TheFixer_1 thanks lol. I knew I was wrong but didn’t know the actual name. Haven’t seen that movie in a while but just might movie night
@@J.P_INC. sounds like a great plan
Clarice Starling. Just my personal favorite. Strong, brave, but not afraid to admit when she's afraid. And WELL acted too.
Leeloo from Fifth Element. Perfect balance between strong, brave, innocent, vulnerable, and playful.
And a multipass
@@Aughtel LOL i forgot about the multipass.
Omg I love Leeloo
I haven't watched the new Ahsoka show, but I like Ahsoka from the Clone Wars because she's a compassionate person for Anakin and the people that are close to her but also protects them and is just a cool Jedi tbh.
Elizabeth Swan was a cool female character from Pirates of the Caribbean franchise, as well as Tigress from Kung fu Panda and Astrid from How to train your dragon
Buffy is one of my fave female characters. Janeway was done right though, I don't think the fact she was a woman was ever brought up. She was just the captain.
I have to go with Trinity from the Matrix movies! Badass!!!
Ripley is a boss….specifically in Aliens, but Samantha Caine was another absolute favorite character I’ve seen on screen from the long kiss good night…..and let’s not forget Sarah Conner.
Beatrix Kiddo would be my female movie hero
Same here
These types of video love to act like there is a problem when the fact is not all female characters are winners just like all male characters aren't winners. But there has to be a narrative behind this.
Michelle Rodriguez “Letty” character in the Fast and Furious movies is a good example of how to write a female character Even Mia ( Jordana Brewster) is a good female character
Strong female characters do not mean Women are code for Swiss Army Knife… i.e., Rey, i.e., Captain Marvel
My fave is Wonder Woman, Black Widow, Hawkwoman (I love her character from the DCAU), and Black Cat....Storm, Rogue and Jean Grey aka The Phoenix
I absolutely love Evelyn from The Mummy. And as someone else said, the women from Firefly 🖤
Scarlet Johansson played a beautiful and strong character as Black Widow.
But was also 100lb woman beating up multiple 200lb men.
@@KiltBill2 The thing is' sh😮😢e was training for years as an Agent of Shield to be able to fight bigger people.
@@KiltBill2
And batman fights super-powered gods.
Blackwidow was done right imo.
@@KiltBill2This is the same universe where if a guy gets mad he turns into a giant green rampaging monster. The same universe where one guy with a shield can take on 10 dudes in an elevator.
I think it’s reasonable.
I am a woman who trains in Martial arts. There comes a point where no matter how good your fighting technique is and how well trained you are , that you will not win against a much bigger, bulkier opponent.
Favorite female hero right off of the top of my head is Alita Battle Angel. Loved the film, even read the manga after seeing the film.
My two favorite female characters are Emily Blunt playing as Rita Vrataski in Edge of Tomorrow and Antje Traue as Faora-Ul in Man of Steel!
Ripley and Sarah Conner from their first two movies are the GOAT.
Alita is a character I've grown fond of for the past several years. Honorable mentions would be Ahsoka, Vi, Wonder Woman, Eowyn, and Michonne.
I loved Alita! Such a great movie.
Favorite female hero for me is Motoko Kusanagi from Ghost in the Shell
That's why Daredevil show is my favorite. A superhuman that still struggle and gets tired fighting a group of normal men and then gets beat by a big dude in one episode.
My favorite female hero. No question its the Princess of Alderaan Leia Organa-Solo.
Yep! She always seems to get left out of the OG list of "kickass women" i.e. Ripley and Sarah Conners whom I love too, but Leia is my fav! 😁
@@ladyvaderkmc1 100% Until they ruined that one as well with the goofy flying through space scene in the sequels lol. I guess that fits with this videos message too. Took a legit compelling, strong female character from the past, and ruined it with the modern flawed sense of... whatever the hell they were trying to put forth with that whole thing lol
Kind of ironic that Joss Whedon is responsible for quite a few strong(well crafted) female characters.
The man can write no matter what he's like behind the scenes.
Sarah conner and Ellen Ripley were my favorite 2 female characters
My favorite strong woman is Madea 😂😂. In all seriousness the original Aunt Viv from Fresh Prince of Bel Air was good. Strong . Feminine. Driven. Family oriented. Stood by her husband.
Super pretty too!
At least vasquez and gorman went out with a bang.
Ripley is definitely a great solid choice, certainly in my top 5. If I had to pick who my favorite female character is, it would absolutely have to be Samus Aran (assuming video games are on the table)
For me, it's Maureen O'Hara every time she was opposite John Wayne in "Quiet Man" or "McLintock" and even in "At Sword's Point" as the daughter of the Musketeer Athos. She leaned how to fence with a sword and carried on for many years, aging with Grace.
Another is Dame Diana Rigg as Mrs. Emma Peel in the _proper_ Avengers from the 60s. She was strong of character, never cheated on her husband with her partner John Steed, used her feminity and her brains while knowing how to fight when needed.
She also aged with Grace so recently in "Game of Thrones" as the Matriarch of the Tyrells.
They just don't make them like they used to.
Diana did well in OHMSS as well playing Teresa.
There actually was a rated R Spider-Man movie being made by James Cameron at one point but it never left the pre-production stage. I believe it was one of the earlier concepts before we got what we got starring Tobey Maguire (still love that movie tho).
I'm really glad he brought up Samntha Carter.
Ripley.
Best written female character.
Lioness.
I'd say that the worst thing is that all the men have to be evil or nigh completely useless. While the "strong" female character is the smartest, toughest, most powerful character in the entire movie and is damn near infallible.
Your example of _Crouching Tiger,_ I had a big crush on Zhang Ziyi when the movie came out, we are the same age. I really liked her because of course, her beauty, but also her femininity, her vulnerability, hidden under her tough character.
That’s why I love Wonder Woman - even a lot of her femininity and loving nature was actually just as much of a strength as her physical ones. Also Buffy was another great great character. Joss Whedon actually is one of the best at writing female characters
My favorite female hero is a tie between Samus and female shepard
Female biotic Shepard is the most believable overpowered female character ever created.
Hey Tyrone! James Cameron was developing a Spider-Man movie after Titanic that was going to be really good. The project failed but thankfully Sam Raimi picked up the pieces and gave us the Toby Maguire version that contains most of James' ideas and plot points (one example are the organic web shooters)
Favorite female character is Carolina from Red Vs Blue. Great story and development.
As for favorite female hero, Jessica Drew Spider Woman
Wonder Woman is awesome and i saw this as a man who's a big fan...she kicks some serious ass and her animated movie (2009) is one of the best of DC content
Modern Hollywood's Mission to make likeable female characters who aren't instantly perfect at everything: *IMPOSSIBLE*
The only recent likable one that comes to mind is Gwen from Spider-Verse
@@Kickinthescience
And even then, the woke Twitter mob is trying to ruin her and want her trans.
@@Kickinthesciencehe had a really good arc
It really speaks to what these "people" think women are worth when "strong female character" comes at the cost of making every man around them the worst possible example of men.
You don't even have to look at the male characters. You can clearly see that Hollywood writers think women are useless because the only way they can think to make them strong is to remove every feminine trait and replace them with masculine ones.
Some of my favorites:
Furiousa from Mad Max.
Mira Surkit from KOTOR 2
Luca from Beserk
Sarah Conor Terminator 2
I am glad he mentioned Clarice Starling who is awesome.
mine is Jadzia Dax from DS9. Terry Farrell was perfect.
my other is Kate Beckinsale, her in Underworld, her in Total Recall, just her ... in general.
My favourite female characters are probably Sarah Connor and lesser know TV character Teresa moreno from sharpe for the sole reason that it took deep trauma to turn them into strong women and from my experience in life this is spot on all the women in my life the ones who are tough do have trauma or a rough upbringing. But still they have feminine sides to them. This is what Hollywood needs to learn.
I just have a problem when they introduce these new characters and make less screen time for the male characters we been watching for years just to give the female characters shine
Ahsoka Tano, hopefully Disney doesn’t ruin her this year.
2:43 - They are being replaced with writer surrogates, self-insert avatars for those who want to see themselves rather than a power fantasy character that everyone can enjoy
I just want to comment on the movie Atomic Blonde. That stairway fight scene was amazing. I actually was buying all that stuff. It was just awesome in my opinion.
nice video tyrone, my favorite female character is kreia from kotor 2! My favorite heroes though are leia and captain janeway
When you realise Vasquez in Aliens is John Conner's foster mum in T2.
Ellen Ripley will always be my favorite heroine.
The one in Rogue one I also liked.
Hollywood: "STOP MOCKING ME! WHY ARE YOU DOING THIS?!"
Critical Drinker and The Boys: "Because it's easy and it does a lot of damage."
He is a joke and can only go after low hanging fruit.
@@greyjedi1272💀
My favorite female hero has to be Jill Valentine.
I’m totally with you about Vasquez
If you want to see an actual likable strong female character, you can do no better than female Shepard in the Mass Effect Trilogy.
Female Shepherd is identical to the male version. That said all the female characters/companions are all top tier.
Modern western Hollywood is a cancer. I legit only stick to Asian media and video games OR older American games and cinema. ESG has destroyed entertainment.
As do I because there's no original entertainment nowadays just terrible reboots.
I'm with you on Sara Conner, I didn't realize that was the same actress to be honest
My favourite female hero is Emily Blunt from Edge of Tomorrow.
I think a modern portrayal that I actually really enjoy is Samara Weaving in Ready or Not
I have said this for years; girls, being full of angst does not make anyone like you.
My favorite female heroes are : 'Wonder Woman aka Linda Carter', 'The Bionic Woman aka Lindsay Wagner' & 'Ellen Ripley aka Sigourney Weaver' to name three! Can't forget 'Princess Leia aka Carrie Fisher'! But Double 'K' likes 'Phleabag Waller-Bridge' and so forth!
18:38 one of the sadist thing in game it reminding me with that game that we used to like
For All I Know, James Cameron Directed A DC Movie, Aquaman Starring Vinnie Chase
It is about the message it leaves, little by little, they get in your head, in this ultra quick reality
Charlie Baltimore from “The Long Kiss Goodnight”. Played by Gina Davis.
I would have to go with Red Sonia as my favorite female hero
Mine are Ellen Ripley, Clarice Starling (Silence of the Lambs), Beatrix Kiddo, and Trinity.
Loved seeing Aeryn Sun in his list of well written female characters. In my opinion she's one of the best characters (male or female) in tv.
The Boss from MGS3……….. like everything about her is poetic
My favorite strong female lead? Grace Kelly. Followed by Betty Davis and Joan Crawford. Strong yet feminine women holding their own .
Favorite Female Hero is Ripley. Period. From Aliens 2. Totally agree with you.
Favourite female hero is buffy summers, plus it’s my favourite show
If James started making marvel and star wars movies oh my God they would be so great and make so so so much money
Judi Dench and Betty White, most favoritestest women in cinema off the top of my head
Marge Gunderson from Fargo is an amazing female lead
thats why i loved arcane. physically strong women but with many emotional and psychological weaknesses that made them allot more interesting
Comic is Storm; movies Charlie Baltimore from Long Kiss Goodnight. Still waiting for remake.
Dont forget Selene - Underworld
Aeryn Sun has a special place in my heart. Farscape is one of my all time favorite shows.
Maya the Bee for me.
Never occurred to me as a youngster regarding gender mattering, so I’m choosing her as my fav female hero 🙂
I was a HUGE Buffy The Vampire Slayer fan! I still am. That's when it was done right.
I’d have to say Toph from ATLA and Mikayla Stone from Manifest are two of my favorite examples of a well written Strong Female Character
Being a 90’s kid, my off the top hero list growing up would be Riply, Leia, Trinity, and Sarah Connor in that order
I remember watching this months ago and I’m glad you found it man.
Sarah Connor of Terminator franchise is un-fck-witable
My favorite female hero is Zatanna. In anime it's probably Shinobu.
Heather Langencamp as Nancy Thompson, in Nightmare On Elm Street.
don't forget furiosa. Absolutely loved charlize theron in that role
Ellen Ripley is my favorite, Sigourney brought her to life.
Android 18 anyone?
