If you're seeing this video in the first 4ish hours of it being uploaded, I invite you to come hang out on my eBay Game Hunting stream LIVE NOW: www.twitch.tv/petedorr
I don't view Twitch much but enjoy your Ebay stuff, will you be uploading any of those to RUclips? If not would you post on RUclips to say your doing certain streams?
Your videos are like a warm blanket, always chill and super nostalgic. Started watching in my early days of middle school, now I'm a college grad. Cheers!
A solid array of terrific PS2 launch games & genres! It was a tough financial stretch to pick up my launch PS2 but I obtained it with only one game, which was "Twisted Metal Black". For 4 months I couldn't afford any other games as that console expense tapped me out, so I loved mastering that one game to death which I greatly appreciated at that time & was content. 4 months later I was able to pick up many new games & went through 6 PS2's until the 360 & and PS3, as I played it virtually every night after work & weekends.
Pete’s videos are such a vibe and I am always here for it. Love the simple authenticity. No clickbait, no obnoxious thumbnails, no over the top production, just a dude talking about games who clearly has a love for them. 😎 👍
Pete's retrospective videos are always a treat, not full of bells and whistles like modern RUclips, just a passionate enthusiast talking about his hobby. That's cool, Pete. Thanks for the upload.
I remember watching your channel years ago and then just stopped and for the last 5 months been trying to remember your name and a couple days ago you popped up out of nowhere. Made my day. I subscribed thus time. Thanks for sticking with it.
Of all the youtubers I miss seeing frequent videos from, it's Pete. There's just something about the way he speaks it's just so much more therapeutic to me than anyone else. Soft voce that doesn't grind my ears like alot of the loud youtubers. On top of that, he's my age, so I feel our childhood gaming interests were very similar. Here's hoping for more
Dreamcast launch was great as well. Seeing perfect arcade ports at home for the first time was a big deal. Games like nfl 2k were insane just to see at the time.
Seeing Pete Dorr videos on YT is almost as nostalgic as the launch of the PS2. This was s great time to be into gaming with the huge leap in the technology from the crude early 3D graphics of the PS1.
Man I use to watch your videos way back in ps2 collection days when I was in middle school and somewhat in hs.. now I am in my mid to late 20s. Still surprised me your still making videos to this day.
I absolutely loved watching your videos back in the day where you would show your games collection and talk about your favourite games on there. The PS3 collection video is a personal favourite of mine. This was actually really nostalgic for me to watch. Maybe you can make this a series where you talk about each consoles launch titles and the ones you played. Keep up these videos Pete!
Really appreciate the recent youtube love. Honestly your streams have become a favorite of mine recently. Love the cozy vibe and the fact that you always play titles which I’ve never seen or are just older and not talked about anymore. Been an extremely long time viewer - even when I saw this I knew about that 9 year old video you had mentioned talking about your nostalgia for this exact release, I used to love that one! Cheers pete :)
Always love your videos Pete. Brings me back huge nostalgia discovering your channel in 2012. Gave me MASSIVE influence to become a retro collector myself. Thanks for everything you do Pete.
Two petedorr videos this weekend has me stoked. I think you are probably right about overall best launch but not for the reasons you outlined in this video. It was the DVD player. That was a huge new feature. The games were solid but i didn't touch the rpgs back then. I never had access to a console/tv for single player experiences during those years so my memory of the launch was 100% tekken tag and armored core 2 which were heavy hitters. Dreamcast launch with soul calibur probably still beats it for me game wise though. My soul still burns for DC soul calibur that i keep returning to it but haven't touched tekken tag in years. Cheers pete! Thanks for the vids man love your stuff
As a longtime fan of your content (I found you in middle school), I just wanted to say that you should make another long video like you use to of your entire collection room. Well at least a few videos of nearly all your lets say Playstation 2 or Gamecube games. I really enjoy those long videos. You've given me tons of great games to check out. I still remember that video where you waited for the 3ds in NYC at lunch in 2010. Fallout 3 unboxing video was also what made me get into it.
Can't wait to give this a proper watch. I miss the PS2 days as it's the era that got me back into the gaming. I bought a slim PS2 and stack of games before leaving for college. Now I'm going back and trying to pick up some of these earlier games. I got Summoner at Retropalooza recently and can't wait to dive into it.
LOVE this video. The ps2 really did have an amazing launch lineup. I truly miss the days of a console launch that felt like such a big event, with new graphics and experiences that couldn't be done on the systems that came before it. I feel like the last console that made me really feel that way was the 3DS (because of the 3d effect), maybe VR as well. anyway, amazing video as always. Would love to see launch vids for other consoles like dreamcast and gamecube!
Great video Pete. I don't think I got a ps2 on launch but damn even the launch window was loaded. I still have found memories playing Journey to Jaburo and The Bouncer. Not going to lie for a looong time I thought the PS2 had the deepest library of games but now I really believe the switch takes the crown.
Definitely do more console launch videos. PS2 has the best library of any console in my opinion. I agree with basically every point you mentioned. The passion definitely comes across in these older style videos. Glad to see it.
Hey Pete, man i miss your video's. I have been watching you since you started RUclips. You may remember me from back in the day when i sent you a package of games and a sonic lanyard from PAX that you really liked! Its been a long time but I am still around and love seeing you posting videos again!
The Armored Core series is a high point in my PS2 collection, starting with AC2 on release. While I was able to get most of the games very cheap years ago the seventh, and last one I needed--Ninebreaker, set me back about $40. Finally have all the PS2 releases, though.
I’m not sure how long I’ve been watching but I definitely remember you making videos about Xbox one lauch and ps4 and I use to listen to the all gen gamers podcast
I just picked up orphen scion of sorcery excited to play it I have just recently started collecting PS2 jrpgs/RPGs I didn't really play them when I was a kid so I'm pumped to explore the vast PS2 jrpgs library of the PS2!
I rented a PS2 with Fantavision & TimeSplitters back in 2000 around Christmas and it was mindblowing as a 13 year old kid. Just the PS2 itself was and still is such a beautifull console to look at. I remember, i could not stop looking at the screenshots in the OPM in the months before release. I live in The Netherlands and the PS2 was also very difficult to buy and also very expensive. I bought a PS2 a year later, wich was actually the best time when it comes to releases. In my opninion the PS2 felt really like a next gen console in 2001 ( GTA 3, MGS2 etc)
Hey Pete, I totally agree. The PS2 launch was really amazing. It's a shame that anyone rarely brings up just how groundbreaking it was to have that magnitude of quality games on day one. I was managing a few different Babbage's store back in those days, and was with them from the PlayStation through to the GameCube and the PS2 still had the best launch of those for sure. -MRH
Smugglers Run was the first game I had for ps2, it was such a good game and blew my mind how big the map was. Very clearly a precursor to the GTA games that would follow. My friends and I would always try to drive our cars up the frozen waterfall.
As a young kid(11) when the PS2 launched, I wasn’t paying attention to all the launch games. I picked up like 7-8 months after launch. I never heard of much of these titles. I’ll definitely be looking out for these games, especially the RPG’s like Eternal Ring.
You should incorporate spinning the wheel (or whatever randomizer you use) into the episode, maybe at the end of the video where you discuss the previous wheel games, so we can see which game reviews you will be working on next. Tease the next wheel review episode. Love the channel man.
Of the launch PS2 games, I only played Midnight Club, Street Fighter EX3, and Tekken Tag Tournament. Granted I got the PS2 I think a year or 2 after it originally launched. But I will say looking back the PS2 definitely had an amazing launch line up of games. I think the first games on PS2 that I actually bought was Dragon Ball Z Budokai, Final Fantasy X, and Kingdom Hearts. I think those 3 were the ones I got along with the console, memory card, and extra Dual Shock controller.
Im surprised that fantavision is on modern consoles now. I believe that Fantavision was the first PS2 game that i ever saw or at least remember seeing, I was like 5 whenever i got a PS2. I remember it being so magical seeing the fireworks explode and having no idea how the game even was played. Ive beaten it now on the normal difficulty. Great game that I’m glad is becoming less underrated. You are right about it being a relaxing game with a really chill atmosphere .
DOA 2 Hardcore and Tekken Tag Tournament were great. I played those with my friend. At the time, my friend and I were also really into martial arts movies. So we would act out scenes from movies and a little bit of DOA 2 and Tekken was acted out too, especially Jann Lee and Martial Law.
Another cool Fantovision fact. The PS4 re-release retroactively added the splitscreen mode from the Japanese 2nd game and is the only PS1/PS2/PSP re-release where they made any kind of modification to the game (minus control tweaks)
It seems the ps2's library was top tier from launch. It might just be my gen z childhood nostalgia talking but i would argue that the ps2 is the best console ever made.
Brilliant video, Pete. Would love more content like this for other launches, or even a “X amount of years into a console’s life” style video. It’s always fun to see someone’s individual take on a particular console and what they played throughout its life.
I didn't get a PS2 right away but I was one that convinced my mother to get me one for Christmas going on about how great it would be since it was also a "DVD" player even though I never really used that feature of it. It's true though the PS2 really did seem the future with fantastic titles and so much variety there was definitely something for everyone, some of it looked so amazing they even got me to sample genres I previously would have never even consider, definitely did not disappoint as the next gen to follow up the PS1.
Definitely do gamecube and dreamcast episdoes, I forgot how many titles released for the ps2 at launch. I recall getting one early and really wanting dark cloud badly, but instead we got nhl 2001 and tony hawk 3. I enjoyed tony hawk, but have never got into any sports games outside of fight night round 3 on the 360. Unsurprisingly I recall our parents renting silence of the lambs on dvd given that was one of the console's big selling points. Overall, being a big nintendo fan when I was younger (and even xbox to a lesser extent), it took a number of years for me to get around to the ps2's expansive library but I have a lot of nostalgia from that time.
You really explain yourself well mentioning that this lineup of games were like 6/10 games. I agree, but at the time they were amazing. I see them as 6/10 now because of all the progress we have had since then. Yes I do appreciate it. I played Kessen 2 and it made me buy Kessen 1 and 3. Yeah great lineup. A huge variety and something out there for everyone. Yes I like these videos. It brings back memories and your enthusiasm makes me curious about what you find fun about these games.
I gotta say since most people only get two or three games at launch, including me, the most fun I had was with the Wii. I got Twilight Princess, Excite Truck and Wii Sports was included. Those three games were top notch and so much fun and also quite different!
Oh yeah, Dynasty Warriors 2 brings me back. My friend showed me that game and I loved it. Then Dynasy Warriors 3 came out and that made me want to get a ps2. I have played other Dynasty warriors games and spinoffs. Then a few years ago I bought Dynasty Warriors 2. It didn't seem that great anymore because of all of the updates since then. When the PS2 launched, the launch games were amazing at the time.
Orphen is one of my favourite PS2 games. I got into anime based on it. Very much based off the anime and I suspect had it come out a year later would be more beloved as the anime came out after the game in the West, but the reverse in Japan.
Some other great picks you should try out Pete are Dynasty Tactics 1 and 2. Dynasty Warriors set in a tactical rpg. Noticed you’re playing Eternal Poison I’m in the middle of playing that myself. Also I can’t believe how inexpensive Metropolismania 1 and 2 are, especially 2 which is really uncommon. Idk how Chulip shoots to $200 but Metroplismania 2 is under 20.

Very true, I could listen to Pete talking PS2 forever :)
My first two were GTA III and Onimusha. I eventually got TM Black and played the hell out of it.
TM black was dope. My first ps2 game was "the bouncer" from squaresoft.
I for one, certainly welcome more Pete videos. You're one of my longest held subscriptions, and yet your perspective seems very fresh.
I remember watching your channel years ago and then just stopped and for the last 5 months been trying to remember your name and a couple days ago you popped up out of nowhere. Made my day. I subscribed thus time. Thanks for sticking with it.
Two PeteDorr videos the same week! Now I know, this is heaven.
Good to see you back dude. Would love to see you talk about other consoles and their launch titles.
Man what awesome memories with this launch, PS2 and Dreamcast, amazing times
Of all the youtubers I miss seeing frequent videos from, it's Pete. There's just something about the way he speaks it's just so much more therapeutic to me than anyone else. I'm so happy when I see your new videos in my feed. Your older videos are what got me into gaming videos and video game collecting back in 2010.
Been watching these videos since 2009. Watching these brings me back to simpler times lol. Keep doing what you enjoy!
Seeing Pete Dorr videos on YT is almost as nostalgic as the launch of the PS2. This was s great time to be into gaming with the huge leap in the technology from the crude early 3D graphics of the PS1.
As a new fan, I’m so glad you’re back. Game chat is just what I need right now.
2 pete videos back to back is all i could ever ask for!
I am so glad you’re posting on YT again. Been subscribed for 8+ years, really love your list videos. So chill to listen to
Man I use to watch your videos way back in ps2 collection days when I was in middle school and somewhat in hs.. now I am in my mid to late 20s. Still surprised me your still making videos to this day.
I've been watching since the 7th gen days. It's great to see you posting again, Pete.
It's good to see you back Pete, always love seeing a new Pete Dorr video uploaded
Pete is in my top 3 of my favorite video game RUclipsrs to listen to so much game love and knowledge.
I absolutely loved watching your videos back in the day where you would show your games collection and talk about your favourite games on there. The PS3 collection video is a personal favourite of mine. This was actually really nostalgic for me to watch. I remember watching your previous video about this topic 😅 9 years geez

Always appreciate your insight into games.
2 videos from Pete in a week is like finding 10dls in a random pocket of a jacket you hadn't worn in a while lol unexpected surprise 😊🎉
Always love your videos Pete. Brings me back huge nostalgia discovering your channel in 2012. Gave me MASSIVE influence to become a retro collector myself. Thanks for everything you do Pete.

Good to see you on YT pete. Kinda crazy that Angel Studios released two classic racing games at launch.
Pete I miss your RUclips uploads. This was great to watch
You were the first person i subbed to when i finally made my own YT channel lmfao in like 2009 maybe good times man
Keep at it brother. I always love watching your videos, and I only started watching them in the last few years.

Finally a channel on RUclips that doesn't curse in every word.
Love ya pete, been watching since 08 when I found your Fallout 3 collectors unboxing. Glad to see you back brother.
Please keep making videos Pete! Love listening to you talk about your passion. More more more!!
I always thought that you had a great Radio voice, you even have the classic shockjock hair. I love this type of content, keep it up.
Loved seeing this kind of video again Pete, hope to see some more soon!
Ina few years, I will have been watching you for 20 years. Jesus christ.
Can't wait to give this a proper watch. I miss the PS2 days as it's the era that got me back into the gaming. I bought a slim PS2 and stack of games before leaving for college. EverGrace's OST is still so unique and different from anything I've heard in a game. Great vid Pete!
Love your vids Pete it’s all due to the relaxed tone and I usually just listen without watching
Definitely do more console launch videos. PS2 has the best library of any console in my opinion. I agree with basically every point you mentioned. The passion definitely comes across in these older style videos. Glad to see it.

Love the RUclips content you put out. I'm not into twitch so I never go there, keep pumping out the youtube please.
Always good to hear your thoughts on such things Pete! Especially when it comes to RPGs!!
The Armored Core series is a high point in my PS2 collection, starting with AC2 on release. While I was able to get most of the games very cheap years ago the seventh, and last one I needed--Ninebreaker, set me back about $40. Finally have all the PS2 releases, though.

Ridge Racer V is amazing, don’t sleep
Love these uploads; not much time for twitch watching myself.
Smugglers Run was the first game I had for ps2, it was such a good game and blew my mind how big the map was. Very clearly a precursor to the GTA games that would follow. My friends and I would always try to drive our cars up the frozen waterfall.
Dude totally forgot about smugglers run! Smugglers run and the bouncer were the games I got with my ps2
As a young kid(11) when the PS2 launched, I wasn’t paying attention to all the launch games. I picked up like 7-8 months after launch. I never heard of much of these titles. I’ll definitely be looking out for these games, especially the RPG’s like Eternal Ring.
Amazing video, that ps2 launch was great. If I had to pick 1 game to bring home at launch would be Tekken Tag Tournament
Pete dorr
Love these videos Pete please keep em coming
You should incorporate spinning the wheel (or whatever randomizer you use) into the episode, maybe at the end of the video where you discuss the previous wheel games, so we can see which game reviews you will be working on next. Tease the next wheel review episode. Love the channel man.

This is my comfort channel

Great list of games, honestly Pete. The launch lineup is definitely one to remember.
Im surprised that fantavision is on modern consoles now. I believe that Fantavision was the first PS2 game that i ever saw or at least remember seeing,
I was like 5 whenever i got a PS2. I remember it being so magical seeing the fireworks explode and having no idea how the game even was played. Ive beaten it now on the normal difficulty. Another cool Fantovision fact. The PS4 re-release retroactively added the splitscreen mode from the Japanese 2nd game and is the only PS1/PS2/PSP re-release where they made any kind of modification to the game (minus control tweaks)
Proper game cave right there. Wall to wall. Love it.
It seems the ps2's library was top tier from launch. It might just be my gen z childhood nostalgia talking but i would argue that the ps2 is the best console ever made.
Keep the videos coming Pete 🔥
I got a PS2 at launch as soon as I could get my hands on one with SSX. Great game and the visuals were amazing.
Another video?!?! Haha yes
Dynasty Warriors was so much fun on the PS2. That launched me into playing all the Dynasty warriors games.
YES. Me too.
Yeah great lineup. great video man!
Thanks, much appreciated!
Excellent video. I’d like to see your thoughts on the GameCube release titles in the future.
Awesome video man 😎!
I do like these. But man game footage honestly makes these so much better especially if you've never seen the game.
X Squad is one of the first games I finished on PS2. I really enjoyed it. I dunno if i'd still enjoy it today though.
You rock! Thank you.
Love these random you tube drops!
PS2 for me really, genuinely, is the peak of gaming.
Orphen is one of my favourite PS2 games. I got into anime based on it. Very much based off the anime and I suspect had it come out a year later would be more beloved as the anime came out after the game in the West, but the reverse in Japan.
You know Pete was in line for that sh*. IYKYK
I loved and played the kings field games so much back in the day.
I remember though most reviews were really hard on it and hated it.
I was one who hated it. It was frustrating and annoying to me. Good for you for liking it.
