    Side note on PA feeding on Matrices, Delay can also be added for feeding delay towers or secondary mains further back in your venue. I also use a set of Matrices to feed side-fill systems on large stages (and sometimes drum monitor if they have a sub). This is basically a further extension of eliminating the need for a system processor

      I do similar. Main L&R bus feeding a L&R matrix, a center matrix and a sub matrix. Main L&R bus is sending to mono speakers matrixes (center and subs) at -6dB from unity. Main L&R bus is sent to stereo speakers (PA L&R) at unity gain. Fine mixing adjustments and EQ can be made on the matrices. Quick overall DB adjustments of all matrices can be made using the main L&R bus fader if sent post fader.

    Onboard usb recording tip: Tap from main L/R prefader to record, so that you don’t apply the room matrix EQ on the way in and double EQ on playback.

      And the record volume is unaffected by the main LR fader.
      The same way applies to matrix sends for camcorders or webstreaming.

    Great video Drew. Thanks for all your insight into the functions of the X32. I’ve trained several new sound techs at church and I always send them with homework that includes several of your videos. They are so clear and concise and well explained. Your work does not go unnoticed. Could you do a video on how you set up the hot keys to control your recording playback? We use Logic Pro to record from and playback through our mixer. I’d love to also set up our board to use the buttons to control the playback. Thanks again!

    Thanks Drew. This is something I've been intending on doing (as you note, "having their fader down in the -10 to -5 range..."). But this is a good nudge to get it done for my other volunteers.

    So I’ve always noticed when I listen with headphones how much better it sounds then in the room. It’s so much clearer. So from what your saying this will help me to get room sounding more like the headphones. I work in a concrete room with flat walls so I know this doesn’t help

    Awesome video Drew. All your videos are very helpful. You should end up doing a full x32 online video course from beginners to advance. I've purchased some online courses but it doesn't compare to your videos that you put out. You should think about it doing something like that at a reasonable price.

    My band is getting our first X32 Compact for our gig rig. Our deal is we each supply our own instruments and mics, then we split the cost of monitors, FOH tops and subs, and the rest of the components running the PA. My drummer wants to try to use 2 overhead condensers and nothing else for our gigs that require drum mics. As the lead-guitarist who used to be a drummer, I realize the benefits of a simple rig. However, as the sound guy, I would like advice on trying to isolate individual drums on mixbusses via EQ. In theory, I should be able to use the parametric EQ to isolate cymbals and kick rather easily. Toms are also going to be relatively simple to isolate as a sort of group. Snare tone is going to be the hardest part to isolate. I'd like to be able to adjust individual drum levels because overheads do not generally produce a flat-response picture of a trap set. Is it worth the trouble to try to not mic at the very least the snare, if not the kick as well, or am I better off trying to talk to convince someone who may or may not understand the finer points of live mixing?

    To send L/R independent you need to link the 1&2 matrix, but when you link, how to you adjust the volume just for that matrix 1 speaker?
    Eg: if the person walks close to the L speaker, to reduce only that speaker without affecting the R.
    Currently I have LR going to Matrix 1&2 unlinked but pan function doesn’t work.

    • @tonel0
      @tonel0 10 месяцев назад

      Yes panning is what I’m wondering. I.e. do the individual matrices in a matrix pair receive the individual channels of the LR bus separately. To me it’s seem they are summed to mono and both matrices are receiving both L and R

    2 questions for you:
    1. What’s the proper way to send my pastor’s channel to a subgroup/bus? I am intending to use a DeEsser on his input channel & then use a GEQ on the subgroup/bus - pre/post?
    2. How do I adjust ny matrix for the livestream? Lately I’ve been having issues - I send my main mix through a matrix to my video people; I send it Post Fader & the signal and the sound coming out of it is healthy. From there I send 2 XLR cables coming out of 2 physical outputs of my board into a 2 channel interface (gain on both channels of interface are ALL the way down. From there I connect a usb cable from my interface into ny video people’s computer. I notice that the audio arrive to my interface distorted. Not sure if it’s the send from my XLRs or if it’s something his computer is doing to my interface (if he is even sending me anything to it; I’m not a video guy).

Could you do a video on how to handle plosives on the x32? Also, could you do a video on how to set up a face mic like the one you've got but without the IEMs. We've got floor monitors instead and they feed back into the mic really badly. I've watched your videos on setting up the Pastor's mic, just wondering if you have more tips for setting up that mic in these conditions. Thanks!

  • @luismartinez-salazar5569

    Need clarifications.
    So does that mean your Main L/R is just signal with sounds and when you have Matrix 1 and 2 as main PA 1 and 2, (sub set up with matrix 3) does that means you should be focusing on matrix instead of just soloing out the main L/R and adjusting it such as EQ.

I am having a little trouble accomplishing something, I have several mix busses but lets just look at two (Mics and Music) and I am using 4 matrices (MainL,MainR,Fill,Sub) and I want the music to run through all matrices (i can do this), but do not want the mics to run to the Sub matrix, having trouble getting this to work. Thats why your videos are so vital to me. One of my 2 main speakers output plugs does not work. I switch both snakes and they do work in the same output plug (#7).Do you know could have cause this? I know that both snakes are working, and both speakers are also working because when I switch the snakes in the same number 7 output plug both speakers work one at a time of course. omments

    I've got a question.
    I once routed matrix 1 and 2 to bus 7 and 8 on an x32 compact, being used with a Midas DL32. But matrix 1 and 2 weren't receiving signal until I raised the level on bus 7 and 8.
    Is that normal?

    So L will auto go to matrix 1 if linked and R to 2. I wish they would just let you have 2 channels on the lr bus that you can send independently. I could not figure this out today because i though L and R where just getting collapsed to mono and doubled. But if linked it is actually taking from one side?

    Thanks Drew for your videos! I have some questions: you have already made videos about the audio flow from a mixbus and how to mix this stereo bus (-10dB for music and 0 to +5dB for speech), as well as about the precision limiter and LUFS... But how to use the matrix in this context ? Am I missing something or is this another way to transmit the stream without pre-mixing via the stereo mixbus?
    If using the matrix is necessary/better to do a better job, could you make a video recap of the steps to prepare a stream on an X32?

  • @stuartjenner5112
    @stuartjenner5112 Год назад

    Is nobody gonna ask the obvious question? If the PA is too “bright” fix the PA. I’m all for this routing approach but the “bright PA” analogy is just putting a bandaid on something. If one wheel of your vehicle was larger than the others your mechanic wouldn’t come up with some weird way to jack up the suspension, he’d fix the wheel size.

    • @DrewBrashler
      @DrewBrashler  Год назад

      Yes that is true, however sometimes you are in a venue where you don't have access to the system processor as the venue has locked it out. So the matrix section would be the correct place to fix it.

      @@DrewBrashler Ok, I'll go down this obscure hypothetical rabbit trail with you. If this is a one off gig I would hope that I would at least have enough time to setup Smaart, RTA, and run some pink noise to try and create some sort of resemblance of equal amplitude response. If this is a regular gig or a church gig I would address the root of the issue immediately. I'm not trying to get on here an be one of those dudes that bash anything that is said on YT and I appreciate the info. I would just like to see YT audio techs that have a following address more of the root causes of these things. I work for an AV company that specializes in church audio so I'm in churches almost every day and I tune systems all the time. These volunteer church techs are listening to everything you all are saying and trying to apply what they "think" they're hearing.
