great review, but one other point, like in astronomy, and still photography, the geared head (called an alt\AZ mount for telescopes), gives a distinct advantage of precise composition shifts, as for heavy gear, uplifting the sticks to move a cm to the right or left is impractical, and due to this precise movement it gives more control of position, as with other heads the breaks on the axis are capable of slipping, not so with a gear system, and also for more accurate small shifts, without the breaks jarring the head, level, etc. during tightening.

Main reason you'd really wanna use a geared head nowdays is basically accuracy and easier repetition of movement but most importantly the diagonals. You will never do as good of a diagonal (pan+tilt) simultaneously with a fluid.

      Hello,
      Thank you for the information.
Yes, absolutely. Geared Heads offer precise & accurate diagonal shots.

My understanding is that in the old days, one requirement to become an ASC member was the ability to smoothly shoot a figure eight and an infinity sign (a sideways figure eight) with a geared head.

I'm very interested in you product and have a couple of questions.
You've shown this with film products but what about video heads? I have a Vinten MK7B head that supports a Fujinon 70x lens and an Ikegami HD camera housed in an Ikegami sled. The weight is close to 100lbs with the head, lens, sled and camera. It's used mostly for sports. Will this tripod easily support this setup and withstand the sports environment?
