The "speed" boot category is more competitive than it's ever been, and truthfully, you can't make a bad choice. However, you can end up spending more than you need to, if the end goal is just the best objective performance possible. It's the rare instance when cheaper is arguably better!
In today's video we take a closer look at the new Eclipse pack Puma Ultra 1.4, and compare them to their more expensive competition in the Nike Mercurial Vapor 14 Elite and Adidas X Speedflow.1. Should you spend more, and if you do what more are you actually getting? Or should you just save some money and get the better boots? I answer these questions and more, hopefully helping you make the right decision if you're on the market for a pair of "speed" boots. Which one of these 3 would you pick?

Coming from puma kings, these are great for wide feet. I always have to go half a size up with Nike tempios making them feel a bit long for my liking either a bit longer or get blisters but I tried out my ultra 1.4's 9.5 UK and they fit like a dream. They look narrow at first but they just stretch around your foot. Definitely a great boot for wide feet.
Blister in the toe? Right?
Yeah them tempios are mad 🤣
what cleats what you compare the ultra uppers to?
@@kailloutouch207 BOOTS 😑
I think I’m the first person to ever get a blister playing in the Puma Future 6.1, which are known for being very comfortable boots. What makes it even stranger is that I never had any issues with the Puma One 1 or the 19.1, which have very similar fitting heels.
EDIT - Turns out it wasn’t a blister, it was retrocalcaneal bursitis.
I found a new pair of Puma One 1 boots for sale for only $99 including shipping. Hopefully they will work as well for me as the pair I bought back in January 2019.
I've got very negative experience with two top-end football bots from Puma - Future 5.1 and Ultra 1.1, In both cases I got blisters very quickly and shape and volume was too big, especially in toebox. I have very narrow feet and prefer snug, almost squishy feeling. I had to sell both pairs and buy Mercs 13 and 14 and I'm very happy with the choice.
Bru it different
Nice review I'm planning to get those puma ultras
I had this boot and enjoyed using it for the most part. The upper was a bit sticky, but after a month the sole plate started separating from the upper
Just glue it
I have the eclipse pack Future Z Indoor model and for $90 they are an insane value for money, super soft upper and very comfortable with great grip for dry artificial grass and short indoor turf
True to size? I’m looking for some turf options since I’m not wanting to use cleats in my backyard grass.
@@tracker4854 i went true to size and they fit great
@@waldosaur thanks bro!
I just bought these. Got to say, ive been using vapor xi's for a while now and these were the closest thing i could find in terms of responsiveness and lightness of the boot. I just wish the ultras dialed down the stickiness on the upper.
is it hella sticky??
@@mattpere2 yeah, it has this film of “stickiness” that even after 2 months of having them. They are still sticky.
@@mattpere2 its pretty sticky lol its actually kind of annoying to me since im used to a smoother less grippy surface from a vapor.
Is the sizing the same as vapor 11?
@@garethngth93 im usually a true to size in vapors (10.5 us) but in the pumas i went with a size 10 us for the best snug fit. I dont have a super narrow or super wide foot either
I got the Speedflow.1
Some old color is in special and I feel more comfortable compared to 1.4
puma is always great! question is, are these good for wide feet? or should i buy half a size bigger?
They fit most foot types
I have wide feet & the Ultra 1.2 fit me pretty well! Went “true to size”. Never thought a speed boot would fit me ✨🥲 I really like them!
I would think / hope, the 1.4 are still the same width. 🤞
If you have wide feet go true to size the shoe will open up when up when playing
@@AntonioKhazdozian the model must get narrower the newer it becomes because I work at a shoe store and the puma ultra 3.4’s fit so goddamn tight and I wanted to like them so bad😔
If you’ve wide feet, go for the Future Z
Please review the Puma's 2nd takedown models the .3s and 3.s great content as always!!
I have the Future Z 3.3 Turf model and they are a great value for money. Super soft toe box, the upper is great very soft but gives great lockdown. If you don’t wanna spend the $200 for the top end version i’d say the .3 atleast for the turf model is great compared to other marked down adidas and nike
I was a Mercurial fanboy, but I realized that I needed something more comfortable. I watched your reviews on the Puma Ultras, and I got the 2.4 because I found them more comfortable than the 1.4, even though I have narrow feet. I wanted this Eclipse Pack colorway sooo baad, but I couldn't get them at my local store 😕
$200 is not cheap. I spent that on a pair of custom GS360s. As a 17 year old I’m not paying that shit again
For the ppl that has this boot; how was the lockdown and fit btw i have flat feet i think
Question 🙋♂️😃 Given that more aggressive outsoles like this, the mercurials, the furon etc all make for a bigger risk of injury (especially if worn on AG)… why do people see the attraction of them?
I love football boots but I’ve just never seen the attraction of most speed boots because of this.
Personally I’m a fan of the amount of bite they provide in straight line runs, gives a bit of a placebo effect making me feel a lot faster than I actually am, in saying that I still prefer conical for the turns and cuts tbh
had mercs and predators and Puma ultras were the best boots ever, highly recommend
Taking your word for it, just ordered my pair 🤝
How are they ?
hey Josh i love your videos, but if u wear to also mention the durability of the boots it would really separate you from any other football boot reviewer and i just feel like durability is never talked about even tho the boots are so expensive
Durability is hard to test as a reviewer. You need to play a lot of games over a season or two before you can judge. And there's not only 1 pair of boot on the market. By the time next season comes around, there's another model. He still needs to run his RUclips channels and what not as well.
You should scour the internet for such things as people all over the world give inputs but tbh boots usually last one or two seasons
Unfortunately there are just too many variables to durability to accurately comment on it. Not to mention wearing the same boots consistently for months to even try to gauge something like that. Even so, if I wore a pair of any boots consistently for 6 months, that doesn’t mean that if you wore the same boots for the same amount of time that they would wear the same over time. Unless there’s a blatant issue that will happen with every pair, which is rare, durability is somewhat random.
Hey josh, you don't do playtest anymore? Is it injuries or something else, thanks.
The Ultra 1.4 are too narrow for my foot type, beside they have a raised toebox, which made me uncomfortable 😣
For me, the Merc and X are more suitable
That's pretty weird. Mercurials and X are well-known to be narrow.
@@theSkarekro I feel that the Vapor 14/Sup 8 and the X Speedflow.1 is wider and more comfortable 😓😓😓
It’s 1 month into summer and we don’t have a new boot model out by any of the big 3 brands and it feels kinda weird
i got these for 34 dollars at a puma outlet because they weren't selling there what a steal I still havent used them yet im waiting to grow into them because they're just a half size too big
I have found some reviews abt the upper separating from the outsole is that true
I’m thinking of getting the Batman Neymar cleats that are coming out soon is this a good boot ?
Awesome Speed boot's, "see them later💨" Puma Ultra 1.4. The Craft Pack Puma Ultra 1.2 K Leather boot's sold out in day's, black outs. The Lazertouch Pack Ultra 1.2 K Leather in all white didn't sell aswel an you can still buy them, Awesome boot's older boot's are more nice than the new one's K Leather speed boot's. Looking at the Puma Future 5.1 Netfit Eclipse Pack to go in the boot bag with the Future Z 1.3 Lazertouch an Puma King Platinum OG SG/MIX for wet day's 🎒
Hm... I tried out the 1.3s and thought the upper was absolute garbage... like hard plastic. Conversely, I feel that the merc 14s and speedflow+ uppers have a pliability that make for a much more finessed feeling. Also found the ultra 1.3s to be the least comfortable and premium feeling by a good margin. Guess it's a personal preference thing, but turned me off puma for a few years at least hah
It's the same thing for runners and sports shoes in general. Puma has more bang for the buck. For soccer boots or sports shoes in general I don't mind the brand nowadays.
Do NOT wear these on AG. I took my Ultra 2.4s to practise for the first time on a pretty well-kept FG pitch, and I STILL almost injured my knee. So to say that they're suitable for AG surfaces is absolutely insane!
Weird thing is the ultra are the only boot I've not injured myself wearing. Had both adidas and Nike and the puma 1.2 and 1.4 are the only ones where I've not twisted my knee or rolled my ankle. To the point I'm scared to wear anything else!
Try ultra 1.4 mg version
Nice review
How does it feel for people with wide feet? You should do a wide feet video?
Puma Ultra or Puma Future? Which model is the best?
Is the durability better yet from the sole separating at the front of the boots like in the previous models?
What do you recommend for someone like me who plays all games on AG fields outdoors?
You should review the Millenti Knuckle ball soccer ball
I’ve always questioned puma’s durability.
durability? never heard of it
I wear a 9.5UK Phantom GT pro, what size you think would suit for these?
I have tried them on before , they were good just a lil uncomfortable for me atleast , I went to with the furons instead .
I don’t know why, but 1.4’s hurt my feet and I’ve been having them for 2 months. They fit perfectly but still hurt my feet. Crazy how such a light shoe can make my feet cramp.
maybe tie them a little lighter or use lighter socks
Same thing w my speedflows, idk how to fix that.
Do you play on FG or AG?
@@Inside_Kartingg AG
The weight of the boot has nothing to do with it fitting your foot correctly.
The Ultra is not as comfortable as the Speedflow or Vapor. Yes it is cheaper, but I have found the other brands (including New Balance) to be better
Right
It’s pretty comfortable tbh it fits well and doesn’t blister my feet like other boots idk about the adidas speed flow I heard it’s the best of the best
Should I buy the puma future z 1.2 for about 120$,the puma ultra 2,4 for 110$ or ultra 1,4 for 150 bucks
The main reason why I don’t wear puma is just because of how long the studs are.
why are long studs bad? if studs is way too short is it bad as well?
@@andyng5321 long studs are hella grippy
I have the 1.3 and they're amazing.
Im about to buy a pair of these, but I seen a comment about durability issues. Has anyone else experienced this?
Morelia 2 Pro or the teimpo legend 9 academy?
Despite these boots being $200 dollars, I always see them on sale for much less.
Puma putting out some dope looking boots.
hey josh or anyone who notice and could reply this, how does the wmns version fits
Its a real shame that Puma doesn't have a proper AG boot.
I mostly play on AG pitches and that FG/AG nonsense doesn't allow me to buy Pumas.
Haven't had the chance to measure the Ultra but the Future Z 1.3 feels sooooooo good!
Absolutely agree. Injured my knee playing with the future 1.1’s on the first day I wore them on AG. we moved to grass for the summer so I brought them back out and now I love then
That’s what the MG is for
I have ultra 1.3 FG and nike merc 14 FG, I prefer ultra. I am looking for 1.4 mg or tf atm, hopefully they won't disappoint me
The puma ultra 1.3 MG pink is a great bot
Yes they are awesome
I have the 2.3 as well as the 1.3, both amazing in their own way~
O had the adidas x.19.1 anda i didnt like them very much, do u think the speedflows are difrent?
They're quite a bit different, yes.
@@Soccerreviewsforyou thanks for the help
Are these more durable than the first gen ultras
I have worn the Ultra 1.1, 1.2 and 1.3 and needed to go down half a size in the each of them! Does this review mean they have changed the sizing for the 1.4 boots?
Sizing is the same as other Ultras
@@Soccerreviewsforyou Thanks Josh. I know that we share a favourite OG boot, which is the 2004 Adidas Predator Mania. When I think of “true-to-size”, I refer back to that era of sizing, when a size 9.5 UK was the perfect fit for me. Size 9.5 UK in the Puma Ultras would be far too roomy in the toe box area, and so half-a-size down is just right. I guess it can come down to the shape of one’s feet and individual preferences, but I often find your recommendations on sizing a little curious.
There have been a few boots where I went 1/2 size down despite Josh’s true to size recommendation. This is one of the them. There is tons of space in the toe box. I guess it comes down to fit shape and width. I like my boots very snug…
Future and Ultra currently the best boots no cap
I got puma ultra 4.4 IT for freestyle and futsal. It worth it
In my home country(Norway) I work as a manager in a sports retail store. And the normal retail price for the Puma Ultra 1.4 FG and the Adidas X Speedflow.1 is 2300,- NOK and 2349,- NOK. That is about 5$ or 5 euros difference. Surprising to hear the prices are so different in other countries.
Warns us not to wear on AG and immediately wears on AG 😂😂
In all seriousness, love the videos and keep it up!
The only thing is that they are not very safe for ag pitches 😔
Protection is overrated if you get stepped no matter what you have on it will hurt
Better than future Z 1.3?
How do I get these in Canada?
Would you say the adidas x ghosted.1 is better or the puma ultra 1.3?
Ultra 1.3
Hes said it before
He prefers the Pumas
@@DeBordfamily thanks guys
Anybody here love the 3.4 ultras????
does it fit wide feet?
I have ultra 1.4s and when I walk and toe box creases it makes weird click noise. Thought it may be caused by too much space in toe box, so I went half a size lower but the noise is still there. Anyone else having the same issue?
If you were able to go down half a size, they were too big. But synthetics are just plastics at the end of the day, it will always make noise when there is friction
I bought the turf versions. My left shoe clicked until it was properly broken in. Took about 8-10 wears but they're fine now.
@@JoseTorres-ke8cc same thing with mine, i ended up tightening the bottom lace slightly and it went away after a couple wears
I changed from Nike mercurial to Puma ultra and im not a fan of Nike but i quickly noticed that the quality of both brands is not the same , the puma one only lasted 1 month if so…
Puma is prospering but i tried many pairs and all of them lasted about 1 month witch is very little comparing to a seoson lifetime
3 stripes are better but more expensive the swoosh a cheat code puma is own league
but they have no protection
i want but allready have a pair of nikes, mom wont let me get :(
would it be better to get a boot that is bigger than your foot (like my foot is a size 9US, but that would make it to where there is no extra room in the boot) or would it be better to get a 9.5US for the room?
I don’t think I know a single person who actually wears AG cleats on artificial grass fields.
Very very nice
I tried them but I was disappointed
Hey I bought the 1.3s last season but I didn’t really care for them as the lockdown wasn’t enough and there was awkward spacing in the heel a bit so I sold them. Would I most likely have the same experience with the 1.4s or did they switch that up at all?
Puma have a very good boot but the Nike and adidas is more expensive because of all the tech only that they’ve put into the boot unlike puma which have made it thin as paper, additional gripping with there own skin on the whole of the boot and a tiny bit of the toe box pointing up which makes it a very good boot but they haven’t put a lot of technology into the boot in my opinion.
Can anyone tell me when the rest of the boots from the Nike progress pack are going to release in the US? I want the tiempos really bad but so far only the mercs have been release here. Anyone got any insight?
Lol these are also expensive to me
there too expensive and never have my size
They are the cheapest speed boot 😅
@@JonathanRodriguez-nz9nw you right just bought ones a couple days ago for 120$
These boots for me where even more comfortable than the puma ultra 1.2. One of the most comfortable boots that I have ever worn.
Poomah 🤣
