Al Green is definitely the man. The list of his great songs goes on and on. I listen to him alot. My favorite songs are How can you mend a broken heart, For the good times and of course Love and happiness. Timeless classics.
@@Dabridge4009 I disagree - his performances on both Soul! and the Midight Special from 1972 and 1973 respectively were legendary. My only criticism of this performance is the soulnd wasn't as "full" as it could have been (nor did it include the audience response) but Al was in fine form as was his band - letting the performer they are playing behind shine and never overpowering him as some bands tend to do!
@@Dabridge4009 For a first time EVER listen, and for the purposes of a reaction channel, I believe it's best to play the recording that made folks fall in love with the song. It's that Willie Mitchell, Hi Records sound that allowed Reverend Al to fully express himself. It's the feel of those musicians and the intimate sound of that session. That is the version of this song that's etched in the brain of anyone who has become familiar with it over the years. I DO agree with @ujimajame460 about those other live performances. They are legendary. And, today, they are the ones I prefer to watch. But, first time out with this song (or, any song), the original, studio 'hit' version is always best for a true representation of what has made a song great. That way, Brotha D can hear the song the way WE first heard it and react accordingly. I realize this is also a VIDEO channel. And, although I usually dislike lip synch videos, they may be useful here. Thanks, Brotha D, for keeping this music alive!!
@@jrdlabs Gotcha...thank you for that....but you understand my dilemma. I've times where I did the studio but everyone will say nooooo check out the live performance and send me the link lolol....but I got it..
I prefer the studio version as well, but this live version is not too bad. Sometimes live versions are not as good as and other times it is better than the studio version.
@@Dabridge4009 I think it’s an individual performance thing. I’ve seen live version of songs that were top-notch. The vocals were on point. The instruments were on point. Other times the live versions are not as good as studio versions is because the studio version everything is adjusted to sound perfectly. An instant make it sound very strong on a studio version, and you can barely hear it in the live version.
I have been married 42 years, and there is definitely good and bad, but do you choose to face the good and bad in life as a pair, or do you want to face the good and bad in life alone? Being alone doesn't stop bad from coming around.
Hey Brotha D. Classic Al. The man could sing and he always proved it in his live performances. Old school singers knew how to work the microphone. Al would come in close to the mic when he hit a soft falsetto note and would pull back when he hit a stronger natural high note. I miss hearing great live singers like this, but at least we have these great performances to watch and enjoy. I hope you stay on your musical journey in 2025 and Happy New Year to you and yours. Peace.
ANOTHER ONE OF MY FAVORITES, DON'T LEAVE HOME WITHOUT HIM! PLEASE LISTEN TO WHAT IS THIS FEELING, THE BRASS, PERCUSSION AND OF COURSE HIS VOICE! DO HAVE A HAPPY AND SAFE NEW YEAR!
Someone in the comments mentioned Teddy Pendergrass. He was originally with Harold Melvin and the blue notes. Then he went solo. One of my favorites is love TKO He is known for his baby making music.
Before you know it, you will have 10k subscribers. This performance is from the ground breaking show, “Soul” on PBS. Channel 13 in NY. President Nixon hated this show. The show was before Soul train and very controversial.
@ You have to remember, those times. First, it was all black! There were many guest that were black activist like Nikki Giovanni and then there was Gil Scott Heron & The Last Poets. There was also a show that spoke out about the riot at Attica State Prison and the deaths that resulted from it. Too many to mention, plus there is a lot I don’t remember. It ran from 1968 to 1973. It was a great show that highlighted black talent that often leaned into politics. The host was Ellis Haizlip. Look for the documentary, “Mr Soul”. Or just Google his name. You would find it very interesting!
Even before social media, there was reality TV. Families were allowing camera crews into their homes and into their personal lives and they had to create drama just for the ratings. Most, if not all, families that had a reality show ended up in divorce. It is especially bad on children because they had to grow up in front of the world. They could not be normal children.
Brotha D, he did a song, "Belle," when he was leaving secular music to focus on gospel music. It's one of my very favorites! Check it out and see what you think!
There are people who have left their spouse for an online lover who turned out to be a romance scammer. Even after draining them of all their life savings, the victim still holds out hope that they will get together with their lover.
People get divorced quicker these days for many reasons. One of the reasons is they’re not committed to the relationship. Another reason is they got married for the wrong reasons. Another reason could be they have poor judgment and married the wrong person. Another reason for divorce is one or both people are not good marriage material. Some people like to be married, but they do not want to work on the marriage to keep it intact. At one time, the divorce rate was less than 50% now it’s ridiculously high. A non-religious survey was taken quite a number of years ago, and it showed the divorce rate was higher amongst people who slept together before they were married, compared to those who didn’t sleep together before they were married. This survey was taken over a 30 or 40 year period to see how many of the couples they first interviewed were still married. The divorce rate may be high, but the marriage rate among Black people is abysmally low. More than half of the black children are born out of wedlock. A high number of prison inmates come from single parent homes. Far too many black children are raised in single parent homes.

The LEGENDARY Iconic Mr Al Green aka Reverend Al 💖
Studio version is the way to go for this one, and most masterpieces from this era.

He does a wonderful cover version of the Bee Gees song, How can you mend a broken heart?
Smooth. I love this song. I never heard this live version. I have to say, I prefer the studio version, but loved your reaction. Great song!

Al Green is in his 70s and he still sounds the same. He does not have an old man voice and he can still carry those notes.
Love this. Saw him live in DC around 1969❤
Peace Ms. Cheryl thanks for watching...I know that show back then was everything....
Congratulations on over 1,000 subscribers. Autotune doesn’t have soul.
