Is Soil Testing Worth It?

In this video we will cover the absolute basics when it comes to interpreting your soil test results in an applicable manner. We are building blocks from the previous video in order to give beginner lawn care enthusiast a solid foundation on how to approach DIY Lawn Care for themselves this season. It is my position that soil testing is too darn helpful and easy to skip this step, also its a small investment that can save you a headache down the road and allowing to make more informed decisions in the lawn.

Soil testing has saved me much frustration. I had a 100 sf spot where fescue would sprout, but never mature, then burn the next year. The rest of the 2 acre lawn was fine. After years of blaming strong sun and weak water, I tested the soil and the pH was less than 1 with and P below 1 ppm. I pounded that area with limestone and 10-10-10 over 2 years and it is the happiest place in my lawn. The test now indicates pH 6.4 and P at 10 ppm.

My pH is 5.8 (northeast US, sandy soil) planning to apply Jonathan Green mag-i-cal this spring to try and bring that number into the low-mid 6's I'm thinking.
