I really appreciate you for posting this video. I just changed both of my headlights on my car. I thank God for people like you who don't mind sharing how to videos, to make it easier for women and men who aren't mechanically inclined. Enjoy the rest of your day.
My girlfriend and I followed your step-by-step video this afternoon and replaced her Elantra's headlight. Thank you for such a well-detailed and informative video.
I’m about to be 71 (grandmother)in two weeks.. don’t want to spend money on getting headlight changed or anything I could do myself if possible. I could ask my son or nephew, but if I can do it myself Id rather not bother them (they would be mad bc I didn’t ask, but I like to try things) Thank you for this video.. I was able to change the driver-side headlight in 15mins …no issue! Thank you so much!
I was ready to buy a whole new housing (on amazon $217) until I tried youtube and found you. I just finished replacing the driver's side. I thought I had small hands, but not small enough. I did have to remove the housing. All went as you demonstrated without a hitch. Thank you, HiTechDad.
Thanks - was almost ready to start tearing the bumper off to get those underside latches aligned (spent about 20 minutes and failed). I watched your video and went back out and somehow magically, it aligned the first time. I wasn't actually sure it was in correct at first it went so well. You saved me a lot of grief.
So happy it helped. Yeah I saw some other videos that showed taking off the bumper and I thought there has got to be a better way so I did more research.
Man oh man that is one of the best do it yourself video. When I seen the little space I had to work with i thought to myself you tube has got to have a better opinion. Thank you so much you just made my life alot easier ! Great job !
Just thanking you... bc i watched this video quickly earlier today, then switched my bulbs out at an autozone in under 10 mins. Some guy near me thought i was a pro mechanic, the way i got the headlight done so fast.
Thank you so much for this video! I just changed both of my headlights by myself in about 15 minutes. I really appreciate you taking the time to make this video.
Thank you so much! I went through 5 different videos and you are so thorough and actually show you replacing the bulbs. Other videos just take off the headlight cover thing off the car and no replacing. Thank you! 🙌🙏✨
This video helped me upgrade to LEDs. Which I realized were only the H11 bulbs and not the seriously ridiculously rare (for aftermarket) H11b bulbs. Thank you a ton!
Thanks, incredibly unskilled when it comes to anything repair related but I took care of both of my front headlights today thanks to this tutorial. Here's to hoping they continue to work after I hit a pothole :)
After struggling for about 20-30 minutes with a driver-side headlight replacement on a 2013 Elantra GT BEFORE I watched this video, and hacking up my hands in the process, then bending the replacement bulb, I re-attempted with another $23 bulb after watching this. I removed the screws to pull the headlight, but the Hyundai geniuses who designed the GT differently necessitate the removal of the bumper assembly to do so. I was finally able to do it without removing the headlight with considerable patience and effort.
This is the tutorial that keeps on giving. Took me maybe 20 minutes, 30 at most to change my headlights. Thank you so much for posting the whole tutorial and detailing which tools I needed before starting. ❤❤❤💪🏻💪🏻💪🏻
Saved me a ton of time (and probably breaking stuff) or a trip to the garage: my inclination was to move the fusebox, LOL. Took 20 min. and that included locating the ratchet I had misplaced. Thank you!
It's a rare sighting to see a Tech Guy doing real car mechanic work in the wild. (I can say that, I'm a high tech dad too). 🙂. You did good Tech Man! Update: On a Santa Fe, you don't have to remove the headlight, so it is really easy.
Wow..thanks a lot. I actually already had all the tools u mentioned including the exact same light bulb apart from the gloves..lol. You just saved me time and about 150 bucks. God bless.
Big help. Thank you. Don't know if you mentioned it, but REMEMBER to replace the plastic caps to the housing before reattaching the housing. I might have missed it, because I was in "I got this" mode by then. Thank you again.
I don't know if you ever decided to switch to the Led lights but if you haven't I just did using your video to help me install. It was so easy and you can put the dust covers back on! I git them from Amazon, Sealight H11 Led bulbs conversion kit. $40.
Great video, thanks a lot! One note about the gloves: As you mentioned, the point of the gloves is so you don't get oil from your hands on the bulb, so what you should really do is leave the gloves off until you get ready to put the bulb in the socket and replace the bulb & socket in the light. You don't want to avoid getting oil from your skin on the bulb only to get oil/grease/grime from the car on the bulb instead! Of course, if you're careful you can avoid touching the glass either way but new clean gloves just for the bulb handling is safest. Thanks again!
Dealership chg for all 4 side warning lights on my 2013 elantra was high. Thought id do it my self but watching your review I realized a 80 yr old granny can't do it. Back to the dealership. Thanks
I came to this video not to replace headlights but to replace front driver side turn signal bulb. The twist socket for that bulb is next to impossible to turn without removing the headlight assembly, and the video I watched that showed which socket in the headlight assembly said you could *try* to change the bulb without removing the headlight assembly but they recommended removal of the whole assembly. They didn't however mention anything about the two bottom catches.. Your video was very clear about them and after watching the video several times, then removing the three bolts, I spent over a half hour yanking/pulling/prying and was never able to get the assembly out.. I second the "Hyundai stupid design".....
Great video! Very thorough and gave me the confidence to try doing the task myself. I actually struggled more with the passenger side lamp than the driver's side. Thanks very much for posting this video.
I'm sorry dad I was completely distracted by this music I didn't hear anything you said. When that dude went into the faceshredding solo right around talking about the actual bulbs I dephased for a bit. Love the video thank you I have tiny fingers lol.
Thank you so much! I ended up not being able to fenagle the driver's side headlight out (though I was able to get the bolts off) but my girly hands were able to sneak into that small spot. I appreciate your research and easy to follow directions. :)
So, I had to just replace the "signal blub" but in the interim I wanted to replace the headlights with brighter blubs. I try and teach myself to do all the minor work on my car instead of taking it to the dealership or repair shop. But just a word to the wise, when giving a demo, have the person recording be on the other side of you so we can see what you are doing. There were times your hands were in the way and I am, and maybe others are very detailed would like to see what you were doing, but other than that, you did a good job. Thanks!
Hi Tonya. Thanks for the comments. I totally agree that the filming wasn’t ideal. The “person” doing the recording was just a tripod (essentially just a one-person show). I tried to get the best angle but sometimes it doesn’t work.
I did it without removing. 5'7" /170 lbs/ 7" wrists, average hands. Space is tight, however if you have strong hands, fingers and able to work from different angles and feel and 'see' with your fingers you can do it bypassing removal. I changed both headlight bulbs under 10 minutes. Funny thing, the passenger side took longer, yet that is the easier side.
I found it really difficult to get the lamp back in. Aligning and getting the clips to snap was a real challenge. I found that unscrewing some of the black plastic screws near the front of the car (in the video, they are to the left of the lamp; you can see them in the video) gave the bumper more give and allowed me to more easily get that front clip to slide in (whereas before, it was just sitting on top of it)
ALERT: I planned to replace the bulbs per the video. Took my car to my mechanic for brake work. Dennis saw the bulbs on the seat. When done he said "No Charge" for the bulbs. He showed me how he reached back, removed the round covers, and replaced both. Not sure if his hands are smaller than normal. He said no need to remove the headlight. Took him 5 mins.
Same, my hands were small enough to replace the driver-side light without problems. I think a lot of people might be able to do it this way without much of a hassle. And my hands are probably medium sized.
thanks! Was thinking I had to remove fuse box and battery case to get to - i assumed a screw or bolt under the lamp housing would prevent removal - just saved me $.
i have a 2015 elentra base model and in jan 2020 i had the passenger side flasher just cleaned and re installed and then in feb 2020 i had to have the driver side same thing but now my driver side flasher is not working again and so i wanna try it myself to remove headlight from driver side since it seems driver side we have no choice to remove it and i will see if it needs to be cleaned or replaced my flasher biu like you menetioned the bulbs are enclosed water tight so why am i still apparently having moisture issues only 6 months after a garage cleaned the flasher ?? Lisa thank you
10mm socket is between a 3/8" (9.53 mm) and 7/16” (11.13 mm), would either work? Similarly for the 12mm socket, can I use a 7/16” (11.13 mm), 15/32'' (11.91 mm), or 1/2” (12.70 mm) instead?
The main reason those covers are on there isn't dust, but moisture. As in standard incadecent bulbs aren't water proof. Those puppies will rust solid on you. However, LEDs are made from waterproof aircraft grade aluminum. They're made waterproof by design. I say this because I had replaced my 2004 Mercury Grand Marquis headlights with LEDs. That dust cover wasn't needed. One more thing. By putting them back on, with how much heat is generated by the cooling fan on LEDs, the dust cover becomes a liability and wind up melting. Those LED bulbs need lots of cool air to help them survive.
I have small hands and was able to replace driver's side without removing the entire headlamp. Go team small hands! Thanks for the video!
Damn that’s crazy there’s like little to no room
You replaced the high beem only. The low beem is impossible to even put a finger in between.
Trump could do it easy.

Thanks for sharing
I always come back to this video for my drivers side. I know the technique but it feels reassuring to have someone talking along it, haha
Haha! You know what? I still pull up my own video to make sure I’m doing it right too! Thx for the comment!
You're the ONLY man who did the DRIVERS side which is nearly impossible to do.
Thank you from Toronto / Chicago !!
My girlfriend and I followed your step-by-step video this afternoon and replaced her Elantra's headlight. Thank you for such a well-detailed and informative video.
Awesome! So great that it helped and you guys could do it.
Thank you so much for posting, replaced driver side - no issues - in 10minutes - you saved me $80 - ;)

Can’t believe that I could change them in 10 minutes. Thank you so much for the excellent details

I had no idea what I was doing other than your video. Replaced both lights in under 30 minutes. Thanks!
Your vid helped me replace my passenger's side light over a year ago. Today, it helped me replace the driver's side. Much thanks!
You made it really easy to see how easy changing a light bulb is. Thanks so much.
So glad the video helped!
Thanks High Tech Dad! You explained it so well, watching the video took longer than the actual repair! Much obliged!

So nice knowing even the size driver I needed before even popping the hood.
Excellent video, it took me 10 min to do both headlights. Hardest part was taking out the driver's side headlight, other than that, easy install.
Thanks! In fact, I just had to do the replacement today as well. Drivers side is still a pain but getting easier!

You're welcome! I believe that bulb is for high-beams. But don't quote me! ;)
