The k20 is a great engine for the mr2. It's lighter and makes more power than a 3sgte/5hybrid. But I love engine swaps, the iron block 3/5sgte people make are cool. I think it's easier just to appreciate all mr2s. My favorite are v6 swaps personally.
The fastest K20 MR2 right now is still slower than the fastest Toyota S Series MR2. The stock motor has plenty of potential but people are simply more familiar with tuning Honda engines so they stick to using them then realizing the potential this 2/3 Iron 2JZ actually holds. Not saying the K is bad, but I can't justifiably say it's necessary either, nor the amount of power beyond what this guy has got either, which Toyota's S Series have definitely been able to exceed.
Hunter Altman swaps are great for cars that don’t have much potential or no after market resources and unreliable engines in this case K swaps are not necessary the SW20 can make big power plus it’s a proven motor it just doesn’t have as many aftermarket resources as a 2jz or k series but that’s where ATS racing shine because they have proven that that motor is a monster and they have the parts and receipts to prove it, plus your able to stand out because you know everyone else will have a k swap do you want to be another copy cat just saying

Nothing better than seeing work done to make power by using the same manufacturers engines - rather than swapping what works from other manufacturers. Only wish Toyota thought that with the new "Supra".
MR2s are amazing cars. Some of my best car memories are from AW11 and SW20 MR2s in the back woods of NH. They are just fun cars and the drag set up is a unique take on the MR2 that are normally set up and either show cars or autocross/track day toys.
What is a good first car? A cheep midd engine car that not only make insurance company take everything you have. But might also actually try to kill you. The Swedish winter would probably never be as horribly exciting as it would be with one of those.
Cool to see it still with a yota motor but the efficiency isn't quite as good as a K series (which is why the swaps are so popular). The mr2 in the video is making 750 whp @ 40 psi with a gen 2 precision 6262. A pistons and rods k20a2 with a gen 1 precision 6262 @ 40 psi makes 850 whp.
Alex Thompson it does... if ats racing built it, it’s a 3sgte/5sgte(5sfe block,3sgte head), both of which are the oem engines from sw20 mr2’s and 5th/6th gen celicas
They already have a relationship with Lotus and the MR2 has Lotus roots with Roger Becker. I wouldn't mind an Alpine A110 partnership for a partnership. Hell, make it a badge engineering project for all I care, but get it to America with some service and parts options.
@@jinxtacy Lotus was friends with Toyota at the time and showcased a few chassis to Toyota, but Lotus had no part in making the MR2. Toyota came to the idea of that car on their own, plus they bult record setting MR race machines prior. Although Lotus did however contribute to the suspension of the Supra.
I’ve always said k swapping an mr2 was a waste... the 3sgte/5sgte is an incredibly capable engine. Toyota wouldn’t have used it for rally and even their gt2 supra from forever ago
sed8181 yea because not many people go the right route and actually tune them. They just slap a bigger turbo on, crank the boost and pray it holds together... note that all the motors ats racing builds make reliable power, and a lot of it, just like this one. That’s because they use the right stuff, and they tune it properly
WHISKEY TANGO FOXTROT for the amount of money required to purchase the motor, swap it in, wire it up, then turbo it, you could be making more than that on the stock engine
I had a '91 that was modded up to about 300hp, and that was the funnest car I have ever had. Can't imagine an MR2 with over double the HP of mine. Couldn't be a better color either.
I wish I could do what you do. Reviewing all these beautiful and powerful machines, not only is it a Dream come true but it is truely a blessing...my communication skills absolutely suck though haha !!!
@@riyuiwashere 600hp in a del Sol is plenty fast to beat anything on the street. Power to weight ratio. And it's funny you had to go all they way to 1000 hp to prove an argument. There are plenty of other engines that can't do that, doesn't make them all weak.

I've never really thought much if the MR2'S even though I've heard there good until I seen this review & TRC races of 2 K20 powered ones that just destroys a 2JZ Hilux!
I have one, and it is my favorite car to drive, hands down. They feel solid even tho theyre small, And they stick better than what you would even think. Back in the day they got edged out by the AWDs in their class, but for the simplicity of what theyre working with, there is nothing better than that mid engine go cart on steroids.
I loved my MR2 Turbo ('91). The short wheelbase and rear geometry means when lift-off oversteer happens it's REALLY hard to recover it. That said, if you autocross one, it's great training for MR layout. You can dial out some of the snappiness with alignment and damper adjustments after which it's great. Now, with 750hp....I could think of faster ways to get to the scene of the accident, but not many, lol.
I have been telling guys for years...you don't need a K swap when you have a 3sgte. So much more low end and mid range torque with the 3s. And I am a Honda fan too!

Carlo's Garage wider tires will fix everything
@@connoisseuroftigolbitts According to my friend, my car understeers a bit because my rear tyres are too fat. Currently I have the following wheel setup:
17 x 8j 225/40/R17
17 x 9j 245/40/R17
I like how it handles though, very predictable.
Really dig all the shows but the reviews are probably my favorite of all the different cars much love keep up all the hard work
8:38 oh look a foxbody lx notch nice👍
Keep an eye out for the review of it ;)
Nothing better than seeing work done to make power by using the same manufacturers engines - rather than swapping what works from other manufacturers.

Pop up up and down headlights!!
9:30 VTEC is just something special
First love the videos man this one gonna be good i know it
I always thought of that Gen MR2 as the "Regular Person's " Ferrari or Lamborghini if they are set up right and that one definitely is!! Love it
What is a good first car?
A cheep midd engine car that not only make insurance company take everything you have.
But might also actually try to kill you.
The Swedish winter would probably never be as horribly exciting as it would be with one of those.
Cool to see it still with a yota motor but the efficiency isn't quite as good as a K series (which is why the swaps are so popular).
The mr2 in the video is making 750 whp @ 40 psi with a gen 2 precision 6262. A pistons and rods k20a2 with a gen 1 precision 6262 @ 40 psi makes 850 whp.
Notification worked fine for me
1 mil subs this year. I’m calling it!
for a sec i thought it actually had a standard engine 🤔
Alex Thompson it does... if ats racing built it, it’s a 3sgte/5sgte(5sfe block,3sgte head), both of which are the oem engines from sw20 mr2’s and 5th/6th gen celicas
Heheheheheh got it right then cause that’s exactly what it is😂😂😂😂
My love for the MR2 is new again, with this one. Always wanted one.
A new MR2 would just be a collaboration with another company... Probably Also Romeo, as they've collaborated with other other axis powers
They already have a relationship with Lotus and the MR2 has Lotus roots with Roger Becker. I wouldn't mind an Alpine A110 partnership for a partnership. Hell, make it a badge engineering project for all I care, but get it to America with some service and parts options.
I was thinking an Alfa 4C rebadging project, but that does actually sound really cool
That exhaust clip at the beginning !!
Love the way it sounds 👌🏼👌🏼👌🏼👌🏼👌🏼
I’ve always said k swapping an mr2 was a waste... the 3sgte/5sgte is an incredibly capable engine. Toyota wouldn’t have used it for rally and even their gt2 supra from forever ago
I see mr2s with toasted motors though so maybe that is why people kswap, also ks are really common.
sed8181 yea because not many people go the right route and actually tune them. They just slap a bigger turbo on, crank the boost and pray it holds together... note that all the motors ats racing builds make reliable power, and a lot of it, just like this one. That’s because they use the right stuff, and they tune it properly
Matt L not a waste when stock block can handle 600hp reliably
WHISKEY TANGO FOXTROT for the amount of money required to purchase the motor, swap it in, wire it up, then turbo it, you could be making more than that on the stock engine
Honda ftw kid
I had a '91 that was modded up to about 300hp, and that was the funnest car I have ever had. Can't imagine an MR2 with over double the HP of mine. Couldn't be a better color either.
Destroy all the k swaps, toyota power for the win :) 5sgte :)
K is more powerful the 5sgte show me a 5sgte make 1000 hp
U wish
Can't show you an 1000hp 3s but theres an 1100hp if you search youtube
its a 3sgte no 5s and no kswaps ftw
@@mikitosmr2 ok I see it already
Damn I miss these reviews, I know this is gonna be a LIT video! 🔥
Snap oversteer is driver error.
100%
@Nathan Thalhuber yea but this car makes it more easy to do this mistake so this car is damn dangerous when not driven properly
GET GUD
@@hunteraltman4762 you are right m8
I wish I could do what you do. Reviewing all these beautiful and powerful machines, not only is it a Dream come true but it is truely a blessing...my communication skills absolutely suck though haha !!!
I'd like to 3sgte swap the trunk of a honda del sol
3sgte are weak
@@riyuiwashere not if you use a 5s block
@@amgvlogs5087 5sgte?
@@amgvlogs5087 show me the 3sgte making 1000 hp then
@@riyuiwashere 600hp in a del Sol is plenty fast to beat anything on the street. Power to weight ratio. And it's funny you had to go all they way to 1000 hp to prove an argument. There are plenty of other engines that can't do that, doesn't make them all weak.
Thats wildd man! I just found a black mr2 and im starting to get obsessed with it. Im a broke teen in need of a race carr. Just had a job interview too so hopefullyy i get the job and also that mr2 in a bit. Love the vids man!
K20/24 has left the chat
K20/K24 was never invited to the chat!
Andy Hilins word brotha
K20 is much better than 3sgte/5sgte K20 will destroy these weak engines
And also K Series has more aftermarket support than 3s/5sgte no hatin.
That intro was beautifully done! And that MR2 is quick stupidly fast 😭
I've never really thought much if the MR2'S even though I've heard there good until I seen this review & TRC races of 2 K20 powered ones that just destroys a 2JZ Hilux!
Loving the throwback review style, David!
That flyby was crazy. I just giggled like a little kid seeing that. Awesome MR2
It has that perfectly modded appeal and love the tire setup. I'd love to learn to drive tires like that in everything accept the ice and snow.
Always have been a fan of the MR2, great build, sounds amazing!
I miss my god damn mr2 so much. Mr2 love, good to see it on the channel 🙌🏼👍🏼
A true and pure Toyota build. I’m in love.
Had an mr2 a few years back. Such a little fun mid engine wish I could have tracked it back then.
Boostedboiz Kyle is watching this and drooling
Can't wait for all the reviews this month🔥
2:45 "750 we whirl horsepower".
Davids so mind boggled that he can't speak properly. Lol
I have been telling guys for years...you don't need a K swap when you have a 3sgte. So much more low end and mid range torque with the 3s. And I am a Honda fan too!
Well 5SGTE as it has the 5S block as it's super strong. World's fastest SW20 is now a 5SGTE 😁
