About:
Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band’s first tour in 10 years ended with an emotional series of 10 concerts at New York’s famed Madison Square Garden. Live In New York City, featuring performances from the last two nights of that tour (chronicled partially in an Emmy Award-winning HBO special), captures “the heart-stopping, pants-dropping, house-rocking, earth-quaking, booty-shaking, love-making, legendary E Street Band” as Bruce and his blood brothers embarked on an exciting new musical chapter together. Now, for the first time, this magical program comes to RUclips in its entirety for fans new and old to experience.

Bruce Springsteen took the most powerfull and emotional 2 years of my life and turned it into the most powerful songs ever. My city was in flames, We were addicts and she walked out on me with my best friend. But out of those two years I walked out the winner drug free with a beauriful son who I swore I'd give him the best life I possibly could and I believe on that I suceeded.
I'm setting here with tears running down my cheeks but they aren't tears of sadness but of joy knowing I made it and Bruce sings about it, Belting it out in 7.37 minutes.
Karen I don't hate you anymore.
Love to you oldgoat. Huge hug. Bruce has more power than anyone.
Roy Bittan, you magnificent bastard!
What an amazing song. So underrated. A young kid from Jersey wrote this. Incredible.
A great, great song, but I don't know about underrated. It was the song I was listening to when I *got* Bruce Springsteen, both on the album, and shortly thereafter when I saw him perform it at the Fox Theater in Atlanta on September 30, 1978, with the, Sad Eyes-Drive All Night-You Lied, Interlude. That was the moment I realized that this guy was operating on a higher plane than anyone else. Go back and listen to those 1977 and 78 versions, with the interlude. Backstreets has always been a top five for me. As various times the other four rotate: Incident on 57th Street, Jungleland, Racing in the Street, Something in the Night, For You (at Hammersmith), Wreck on the Highway, You're Missing, Because the Night, Back in Your Arms, No Surrender, Across the Border, Girls in their Summer Clothes, Long Walk Home, The Price You Pay, Land of Hope & Dreams - gees, throw a dart. But Backstreets is always in the mix. I do agree that it's pretty amazing that he wrote this stunning, sad, emotional, insightful, brilliant song at about 24.
So true.
Smells DeFeet no need to be a prick
I mean it’s properly rated
Not sure if it's underrated, certainly Bruce fans rate it as one of his best. He was 26 when he wrote this, so he wasn't actually a teenager - older than the Beatles when they wrote Sgt Pepper. Heard him sing this in Dublin, think it was 2012 and it must have been a change to the planned setlist as I could see him mouth the word Backstreets to the band - a fantastic moment.
The man's music has helped me get through life. That simple.
I have been listening to Bruce for 46 years and has lifted me through the low points of my life and celebrated the highs with me. Thank you Bruce
One of the greatest songs everrrrrrrr
I could not agree more.
The very underrated Roy Bittan has never sounded more elegant.
Eric! Non è sottovalutato! 🤔😊😍😘❤️
It’s Bruce Springsteen
This song is just epic, I get chills every time I listen to it
So epic
All the song is from July 1st
But there’s parts from the concert of June 27 2000

Oh yes…
Top 5 for me. That says a lot. He has a plethora of incredibly written songs.
Me too!!
This is one of these songs you almost can’t believe what you’re hearing. It’s so powerful, and I don’t nearly have the vocabulary to describe it adequately. It’s one of the best songs I have ever heard.
Yes. Totally agree with you. Here we simply have the magic that is Bruce.
Im a lad from sheffield england! Don’t know any of the places he mentions, but this song speaks to me! This reminds me of my youth. Love you the boss!!!!
I'm also a Sheffielder , also a self confessed boss fan !!!
Go to your favorite beach town on a summer night and blast it. I grew up less than 20 miles from Bruce in Jersey. You will capture the essence of this absolutely fantastic masterpiece. And in Jersey it is always “Down the shore”!
I’ve watched this DVD many times and each time have been captivated by the look on Max’s face, and his body language, from start to finish. I don’t really know how to describe it other than to say it’s the look of a consummate professional at the top of his craft. I find it very interesting is all.
I wonder if the people of Planet Earth know the greatness and class of the extraordinary Roy Bittan...
Even after all this time, this song and performance still be "hitting different"
If I could take only one Springsteen song to a desert island, this would be it, but I think I'm in a very small minority...
@Pedro Silva Come to think of it, Pedro, you're probably right (about "never hurts"). All the Best!!
Nope you ain't this song for me is his greatest and arguably the greatest song ever
Ill come with you
You may not be. I for one agree.
I’m right there with you man! I just learned the intro and piano and can’t stop playing it!!!
Majestic, operatic, a summer story supreme. My favorite of all time. Happy 45th anniversary, Born To Run.
'after all this time to find out....' A song so full of magical lyrics. A song that connects with so many. The brilliance of Bruce. This is beyond Fantastic!!!
Thus is the greatest version of Bruce's greatest song that I have ever heard. Powerful vocal, and Roy's piano work is exquisite.
I LOVE THIS PERFORMANCE!
Have you seen/heard the performance from the Hammersmith Odeon '75? A-mazing.
@@mgs721 great too but Roy bittan’s experience is just fantastic jere
@@mxschrtt9194 - Agreed. Band was also much sharper in 2000 than 1975 when almost everything was rushed and jolty… they were on fire on the last leg of the Reunion tour
@@chriscianciolo5823 personally this NY stand will always be my top #1
It’s just phenomenal how they played and the crowd was fantastic
One song I love from these shows is Sandy
You can have it on RUclips or in my channel (got also Back in Your Arms and Adam Raised a Cain with the pro shot snippet

One of his best ever. Still gets me emotional. Takes me back to when my brother was alive. He introduced Bruce's music to me
How amazing is Bruce Springsteens haunting Lyrics along with his magnificent Band...
Full of passion and power, backed up by Roy's brilliant piano work. One of his best!
Watched him play this live in croke park 3 nights ago in Dublin. he was in great form ... rocked 80,000
Goosebumps every time I hear this version, takes me back to my youth
best performer ever.
nothing like a Springsteen concert at the Garden
This song captures the feeling of hopelessness like no other then mystically transcends itself to the inner spirit which somehow provides comfort to old despairing memories of a long lost love.
I just love Bruce springsteen!! What a gift he is to the world!!!
One of the greatest songs ever
Simply brilliant..I always dreamed of being heavyweight boxing champion of the world , and my entrance is to the piano solo opening .
Not mentioned often, but Roy Bittan deserves much respect for a lifetime of service to the E Street Band. Just sayin'.
Puts his heart and soul into every live gig like its gonna be his last greatest live performer ever and has the whole band to back him up
We will never ever see the likes of this man again a true one off theres no doubt springsteen and dylan the 2 greats of music history
I think you better put Lennon / McCartney in there. They were in the most successful band of all time, wrote some of the greatest songs ever, and were the inspiration for Springsteen and Dylan. In Bruce’s words, “ After we saw the Beatles on Ed Sullivan, life changed for a lot of us, and I knew then what I wanted to be”
He has probably sang this a thousand times live and each time is Iike his first. This is what it means to put your passion and soul into your life
Such a powerful song! Thank you for uploading Bruce!
Hope to see this song live some time...
Played in Cardiff this year. AMAZING!!!!
Never tire of Bruce's long and noisy prayer, his magic trick...it rocks my very soul.
Passing it on ...spirit rendered.
Summer of 2003, I was home from college and got my first job cleaning out trade-in cars. I rolled up the sleeves of my t-shirts, cruised the streets of my hometown after work, chased the girl of my dreams, and, mama, I could talk some trash. I might've been a couple decades late to the party, but "Greetings from Asbury Park" and "Born to Run" helped make that summer one of the best of my life, despite working that grueling, dead-end job. Thanks, Boss.
THE BOSS AND THE LEGENDARY E STREET BAND
I have seen Bruce many times. This brings tears to my eyes
This song...man! Speaks to you
I correlate this concert with everything that represented pre 9/11 back when it was a simpler and more peaceful time. Those were some great days that were filled with a lot of great music and memories. I wish I could re-live them.
what's interesting, this was the main E STREET BAND"S first performance after they had been apart for some time. Steve had left, Bruce did some solo work, and they came back together to Madison Square Garden, and like they'd never been apart, they rocked NYC with one of their finest performances. This wasn't the first song of the night, but notice how EVERYONE is standing, even people in the seats, quite a distance away. ALL TIME LEGEND + THE LEGENDARY...... E STREET BAND!!!!! ( that's how Bruce always introduces them). Rock on Bruce!
The best live show in music history.
Best piano solo ever, in a rock song!!
This is the best song all ove the world!!! It's true!!!
Have always loved the piano in his music since the early 80's a gifted musician.
My dear friend, the "action actor", Max Andrea Repossi, told me this song was among his favourites from the Bruce Springsteen repertoire. If not his favorite. Max, you may have been "kindly escorted" from the stage we call life on Wednesday 14th of April 2021, but you just entered immortality. Your kung fu bros miss you.
As good as it gets....nothing else needs to be said.
Live from New York City concert was epic I love this concert thanks for posting all the songs again
This song just fills my soul with so much passion and joy it could light up the midnight sky!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
What a classic song! Send chills of reminders of fabulous times.
If you can only name 5-10 Bruce songs, this probably isn't one of them. But if you're a real Bruce fan, this is probably top 10 haha! That's not shade or gatekeeping- it's just facts.
No, it's not as big a hit as Hungry Heart, Dancing in the Dark, etc. It's not as critical as Thunder Road and Born to Run, etc. But if you know, you know- Backstreets is arguably his best song! It's both an anthem and heartbreaking and brilliant and so many things at the same time. Are they friends, are they lovers? Is Terry a boy or a girl? It doesn't matter- we can all relate to the feeling of connecting with someone in our dark moments and ultimately losing them. And seeing it live takes it to a whole 'nother level (particularly with Last Man Standing as a lead in these days). Just a masterpiece. An artist at the top of their game when he was probably only 24-25 years old when he wrote it. Incredible
Thanks, Bruce and cheers to everyone who comes back to this song again and again. It's alright- we'll go hiding on the Backstreets tonight...
Agreed
Nostalgia all the way with this song! Thanks Boss❤️
Where dancers scrape their tears up off the streets dressed down I rags !!!! What a great line!
Written when he was in his early 20s
Masterpiece
Like him or hate him this is a badasss song !!!!
you really have to question anyone's judgement who hates Bruce. I'm 100% opposite Bruce politically, but I love him. BADASS!!!!
@@dantheman1534 bravoooo! 😅👨❤️💋👨😍😘❤️
DAAAAAAAAAAAMN!!!! What a song....what a Band...EStreet and Bruce...rock like none other
Bittan is a beast
Magic Bruce....
BOSS FOREVER👏👏👏👏
One of my favourite Springsteen tracks!
Easily Roy’s best ever song with the band. LEGENDARY.
I've heard this song thousands of times over the last 43 years and the first 74 seconds ALWAYS gives me extreme goose bumps- I can't explain it. The guitar solo is incredible too- but melancholy.
Know what you mean. Roy's piano gives me chills.
@@sued7661 Base guitar too. Gary is underappresiated.
The best song for me! Love BS
Such a lyric infested epic. I love hearing this song in all versions.

Awesome
I saw the boss in may 2023 live on stage in Amsterdam and he played this song. It was my first ever concert, my dad and I are both huge Bruce Springsteen fans and we had a great time there, this was one of the songs that gave me goosebumps. I’m glad that my dad and I went to his concert and that we have shared that moment and the memory together. Our dream came true to watch him live on stage.
The best...♡...
Perfection...
Immenso, venuto da un pianeta di stelle.

Add it to the Live From New York list, it's missing !
Yes, it is.
To misquote Brian Clough, I don't know if this Bruce's best song but it's in the top one. 😁

roy bittan forever !!!!!!!!!
Le tue Canzoni Bruce sono Bellissime
First time I saw him, walked over bums sleeping in the alley, before and after concert, hit home.
Lyrics:
One soft infested summer
Me and Terry became friends
Trying in vain to breathe
The fire we was born in
Catching rides to the outskirts
Tying faith between our teeth
Sleeping in that old abandoned beach house
Getting wasted in the heat
And hiding on the backstreets
Hiding on the backstreets
With a love so hard and filled with defeat
Running for our lives at night on them backstreets
Slow dancing in the dark
On the beach at Stockton's Wing
Where desperate lovers park
We sat with the last of the Duke Street Kings
Huddled in our cars
Waiting for the bells that ring
In the deep heart of the night
We let loose of everything
To go running on the backstreets
Running on the backstreets
Terry you swore we'd live forever
Taking it on them backstreets together
Endless juke joints and Valentino drag
Where dancers scraped the tears
Up off the streets dressed down in rags
Running into the darkness
Some hurt bad some really dying
At night sometimes it seemed
You could hear the whole damn city crying
Blame it on the lies that killed us
Blame it on the truth that ran us down
You can blame it all on me Terry
It don't matter to me now
When the breakdown hit at midnight
There was nothing left to say
But I hated him
And I hated you when you went away
Now laying here in the dark
You're like an angel on my chest
Just another tramp of hearts
Crying tears of faithlessness
Remember all the movies, Terry
We'd go see
Trying to learn how to walk like the heroes
We thought we had to be
Well after all this time
To find we're just like all the rest
Stranded in the park
And forced to confess
To hiding on the backstreets
Hiding on the backstreets
Where we swore forever friends
On the backstreets until the end
[repeat with ad-libs until the end:]
Hiding on the backstreets
