Yeah, I was there also and Bruce just blew me away. I had been wearing out his "Darkness on the Edge of Town" 8-track tape for months and his live show was like cocaine for my ears.
Maybe physically but certainly not in attitude. In both he was playing his A off, still had a lot to prove and playing EVERY show like it was his last. A man possessed to prove the greatness of his music. Let it Rock!
I saw Bruce in 1974 at Albright College in Reading, Pa. I had been listening to him on WMMR, a progressive rock FM station that played Bruce very early. I still remember that concert. Rosalita was a highlight!
I was also there. Awesome concert. Same station, 93.3 and WSAN 1470 AM in Allentown. I believe David Sancious was still the piano player. What an intro to Bruce live
I just don't think there was anyone as good as the showman and over-all performer that Springsteen is. I'm trying to think of someone or some group that was as good, and I KNOW music and the performers throughout the years....I just can't think of anyone who tops Springsteen and his E Street Band. I have looked hard too.
You can keep looking but I doubt you'll find anyone better. A couple of people commented Prince I never saw him live but just going from the video's i've seen I'd say close but no cigar.

Why is the little story in the middle edited? I have heard numerous boots of this tour and there is a great and passionate story he tells that we have the beginnings of here but not the whole thing. What a shame.
Was this the Sam Houston Coliseum show or the The Summit? Sam Houston was the earlier show in the Darkness tour and it was one of the greatest concerts in Houston history.
This was the Summit in December 1978. I saw him for the first time at Sam Houston Coliseum earlier that summer. Wasn't planning to go to the Coliseum show, heard an ad on the radio for it about 2 hrs before the start, grabbed the girlfriend, drove down, got tickets right before they sold out, sat in the very last row, and saw one of the best shows I'd ever seen in my short life up to that point. Then bought tickets ahead for the December show, dragged two more friends with me, sat in the upper mezzanine to the right of the stage, and saw another one of the best shows I'd ever seen in my short life up to that point. For me the Summit show was the more memorable of the two in terms of individual moments that have stayed with me ever since (I think because I was much more familiar with his music by then), but in terms of the overall experience, the Coliseum show stands out because I'd never seen a performance as personal, intimate, and intense as that before. And that was the first time I'd ever seen a performer jump off the stage and wade into the audience in the middle of a song before, which at the time seemed unbelievable to me.
gotta remember this was the late 70's and Bruce was still forming his image. Everyone else was doing disco and fashion shirts worn by the Bee Gees. Bruce started the show wearing a sports jacket no less.

Roy Bittan breaks every mold of Rock and Roll as we know it.
Roy's performance on Bob Seger's "The Fire Inside" transports a great song into magnificence.
@@thadtarleton5784 who can forget Dire Straits' Romeo And Juliet? It's a masterpiece. Can't wait to see him tomorrow on stage.
Big Award to whoever mixed (sound board) his live music
He's a frickin' genius
With Meat Loaf and David Bowie too.
Not only is this song one of the best ever but 45 years later Bruce still performs it with the same passion. Thank you
God I love this song. Was lucky to see him perform it live at a show on his most recent 2023 tour!
I got jungleland and backstreets on one night! Amazing
T as de la chance❤
Might be the greatest song ever written. Roy Bittan is a genius.
To me this is one of the greatest songs ever written... If you don't feel the emotion in this song you have no heart.....
It's great even before the lyrics begin- gives me goose bumps even after nearly a half century.
Easily in my top 5 songs by Springsteen.

Bruce wrote so many of his greatest songs from the piano...including Backstreets. He composed every song on Born to Run from the piano.
His best album ever
Seeing Bruce Springsteen videos from back in the best time for rock music the 70s I would love to go back to those the 70s and stay there.

Catching rides to the outskirts
Tying faith between our teeth
Sleeping in that old abandoned beach house
Getting wasted in the heat
And
Hiding on the backstreets
Hiding on the backstreets
With a love so hard and filled with defeat
Running for our lives at night on them backstreets
Slow dancing in the dark
On the beach at Stockton's Wing
Where desperate lovers park
We sat with the last of the Duke Street Kings
Huddled in our cars
Waiting for the bells that ring
In the deep heart of the night
We let loose of everything
To go
Running on the backstreets
Running on the backstreets
Terry you swore we'd live forever
Taking it on them backstreets together
Yeah
Endless juke joints and Valentino drag
Where dancers scraped the tears
Up off the street dressed down in rags
Running into the darkness
Some hurt bad some really dying
At night sometimes it seemed
You could hear the whole damn city crying
Blame it on the lies that killed us
Blame it on the truth that ran us down
You can blame it all on me Terry
It don't matter to me now
When the breakdown hit at midnight
There was nothing left to say
But I hated him
And I hated you when you went away
Wa oh, wa oh
Laying here in the dark
You're like an angel on my chest
Just another tramp of hearts
Crying tears of faithlessness
Remember all the movies, Terry
We'd go see
Trying to learn to walk like the heroes
We thought we had to be
Well after all this time
To find we're just like all the rest
Stranded in the park
And forced to confess
To
Hiding on the backstreets
Hiding on the backstreets
Where we swore forever friends
On the backstreets until the end
Hiding on the backstreets...

the story became another song, Drive All Night...that is also here in this collection, from Houston 1978.
By this time it has evolved for a tune on the River but some of the interlude musically would pop up over the years like in Toronto 1984.
There should be a video available of this 1978 Houston show. I’d buy it in a second...
I think the only way to get it is through the Darkness box set from 2010. Or I'm pretty sure the whole thing is on youtube now anyway.
