As long as you know he stole his look and sound from John Cafferty, who would travel from RI to Jersey with Beaver Brown....he's whole act commandeered from someone else🤔🎵🎶
I saw him live in Detroit in 78 for the first time when I was 17 and when this killer song was over, I turned to my friend and said “what the f*ck did we just see?” It was my epiphany moment in music…..I became a Bruce fanatic then and there and have seen him many, many times since. Always a great show. He leaves it all on the stage.
it's real telling that he never completely cut ties with Bittan, even when he dismissed the E street band, I think he always had Bittan around in some capacity.
For my money, I think he's the best. There's definitely no one better at leading a band. He puts his heart and soul in his music and performances. He's the boss.
I couldn’t agree more Scott, but boy did I get a dressing down from a Neal Shon fan who couldn’t see past his nose. It was Bruce and the EStreet Bands cover of Purple Rain , which for mine was brilliant. I happened to mention that I thought not only Bruce but Nils and Stevie, you just don’t get any better than that. Well after going ape shit on me, saying Neal was the best and if I was a fan of Journey I’d no that. What the jumped up little shit didn’t know, I’m also a huge fan of Steve Perry and Journey, but for mine I’d always thought yes Neal is a great guitar player, but sometimes his solos were far too long. What the little Creep didn’t know, is my Passion is Music and there’s not much I haven’t heard. I’ve been following Bruce since The Born to Run Album. Anyway I did read him the riot act and layed out my Credentials , and I never heard from him again.🎼♥️🇦🇺
Me too! Thankfully internet became a useful thing right as I was about to ruin myself chasing bootlegs in small obscure record stores. This and Backstreets🤩
i heard Ashbury in 71, at Fort Bragg, didn't care for it much, my 18 year old brother saw both, now i sit here saying wow, he tells me it was the concerts
Greatest musical artist of all time, with the greatest band. He'll never be beaten. Seen him 21 times and still counting. Wish I was alive to see him back in the late 70's/early 80's.
Thank you for this video. I also saw Springsteen in 1978 on the campus of The Ohio State University. THIS song was the showstopper of the evening. I will NEVER forget that night! Incredible energy and raw power and energy. The fans in Houston really got a treat on this one! Bruce's show in Ohio did not have the opening 5:40 of excellent featured guitar intro. However, I'd say the last 5:15 of the song was much better at OSU. The venue was smaller and more intimate. Everyone in the audience was on their feet and dancing the entire song.
No - it does not get better than this for the music itself - and seeing it come together - priceless.... see this for one of the earliest version of this passionate composition...thanks Bruce....ruclips.net/video/dMLIig1lR1g/видео.html
I saw Bruce with my now departed brother, 1983, RIP, at the May 24th show at the Palace Theater in Albany N.Y.. I still have both of our stubs, reattached they form a single ticket, a nice metaphor of our bond. Bruce recently released on Spotify, a tour compilation, highlighting part of the set list. Good and fond memories. My brother also took me to my first show ever, Genesis - The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway, at the Palace. Blessed.
The Boss reminding youngsters why he received such a title! What a monster version! The initial solo is awesome 😱 😱 Great great version proving Bruce a good guitar player all night!
I first saw Springsteen in 2012, at the baseball stadium in DC on the Wrecking Ball tour, and they opened with this “1978 version” of Prove It All Night. When the band came out on stage, as it was a baseball stadium, Roy was playing “Take Me Out To The Ballgame” on piano. Bruce pointed to a woman in the pit right up front (I was in the pit, too), and said, “We’re going to open by request tonight”, as she was holding a sign requesting this specific version.
1978 was so special for this kid who was 14... and one of the reasons was "Darkness on tbe edge of town". Thanks a lot, Boss! Greetings from São Paulo, Brazil!
The piano Intro is fantastic. Springsteen and his E-Street Band..... absolutely great. I don't have Spotify, I don't have any other download Shit, I like to go in a record shop and talk with other musicnerds and listen to good Handmade music! Music is a holy thing you should hold up high
Overtime Freak RUclips is almost the exact same thing. You are streaming a digital version of it a song And the artist barely makes any money off of it.
This song is best when it is a live '78 version! I mean, Springsteen's still a great artist, but this song works best with the long version of the guitar part from 2:21 ish. It always gets me jamming to it. Thank you Boss for delivering this epic version!
I saw the '78' tour at the Philly Spectrum. My favorite era of Bruce & most guitar drenched arrangements. Bruce would step on some kind of Super Booster pedal (not your everyday distortion pedal, maybe a channel switcher) for his leads, one of the most viscous sounds I've ever heard!
After I heard "Born to Run" on the Philly FM radio I went out and bought all 3 Bruce albums that were then available . 3 years later "Darkness on the Edge of Town" arrives and man was I disappointed- over wrought, over sung and now Bruce has this weird accent when he sings. This performance is pretty good, not sure where it is in the show. Only seen him once- December 8, 1980 at the Spectrum in Philly. John Lennon died that night. Talk about going from a high to a low in 10 minutes.
If I was sentenced to having only 1 song to listen to for the rest of my life it would be this live version of prove it 😄
I agree. You have good taste when it comes to music
As long as you know he stole his look and sound from John Cafferty, who would travel from RI to Jersey with Beaver Brown....he's whole act commandeered from someone else🤔🎵🎶
Me too!!!
Couldn't agree more.
@@kevinwalsh4652 You got that backwards!!

❤❤
The piano work in these versions is god level.
it's real telling that he never completely cut ties with Bittan, even when he dismissed the E street band, I think he always had Bittan around in some capacity.
Roy Brittan is a piano wizard that is VERY UNDERRATED- where is the love for Roy ?
Love the piano intro from The Professor!
THE ONLY MEMBER OF THE E STREET BAND WITH A FULL HIGH SCHOOL DIPLOMA!!!
Underrated, I despise whenever Anyone uses the term.
He is amazing.
Right here 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻🥰😘
Always felt like Springsteen never gets the credit that he deserves as a guitarist. Such an epically talented musician!
There may be some that are more technically proficient, but Springsteen plays with more passion than any other guitarist in history.
🎶Well,
I got this guitar, and I learned how to make her talk
For my money, I think he's the best. There's definitely no one better at leading a band. He puts his heart and soul in his music and performances. He's the boss.
@@jkckmarcumful The brutal true! Epic!

I am obsessed with these '78 versions, I wanna listen to them all

Backstreets (sad eyes)
That Piano syncopation at 1:06, oh my god, that gets me every time
Simply astonishing. This should be in the national archives.
rather ,International archives my friend bruce nation - Greetings from France
love bruce but he should be slapped for calling that band "a glorified bar band".
@@mozfonky ? Got a link?
@@Chrisamusic1 I think it was in an old Kurt Loder interview back when Bruce was trying out that new band. Dont know if it's on yt, I'll look.
Springsteen for me is incomparable in popular music, both as a songwriter and as a performer. He is just in a class of his own.
Bruce and the band. Taking no prisoners.
That intro is out of this world!!!
Amen.
Just love that long guitar intro. It is missing from recent concerts. It is a shame because, despite his denials, he is a very good player.❤❤❤❤❤
i heard Ashbury in 71, at Fort Bragg, didn't care for it much, my 18 year old brother saw both, now i sit here saying wow, he tells me it was the concerts
It’s 9/14/24 in Manila Philippines. This never gets old. I love Bruce
I was there that night!
I was at a 1978 show (RPI fieldhouse). That buzzsaw of a guitar lead was so loud I can almost still hear it. I was deaf for two days. WORTH IT!

Agree
I was there. That was my second Bruce concert. Raw emotion, soul and power.
I was there too. I saw him at Sam Houston Coliseum earlier in the year.
I was there, too, but I didn't see either of you.
You lucky guy . I wish I had. Seen him 6 times but this would have been the dream time
yeah i
My first Bruce concert was during this tour, in Indy. Magic.
That intro !!!!
The best!!!!!!

One of best intro in music history. Houston live footage I love you
iesus68 I agree!
Amazing ,great guitar playing by BRuce and nice piano accompanying by Roy with killer solo by Denny and again the Boss
Up there with the very best for intro for a Song. Brilliant Piano playing and magical Guitar solo's epic!!
I wonder if Bruce watches this now on RUclips and is like, "WOW!, that guy is good on guitar!'
Opening 🎸 solo went right through me, gave me chills
The Big Man + Bruce screaming into their mics = 🔥🔥🔥
Sakinah Abdussamad haunting gorgeous solo.
master of the telecaster!
Intro is unmatched
GUITAR SOLO IS AN ORGASM OF THE SOUL

Wow wow wow..... this guitar...... wow wow wow..... Bruce forever🇺🇲🇺🇲🇺🇲🇺🇲🎸🎸🎸🎸
God damn what an intro.. Happy birthday dear Boss..
My God look at Bruce at the end of the song, it's no more a guitar that he holds but a machine gun !
