I think the whole concept of HIM being popular because of Bam is only really a thing in the US. HIM were VERY popular in Europe and Russia by 2001-2003, and many people in those places actually know Bam BECAUSE of HIM and not the other way around. I remember seeing them live in Atlanta for the first time at The Tabernacle. That was a crowd of about 2,000-2,600 people. When my band and I supported them on the Russian dates of their farewell tour, the Moscow venue was for 10,000 people.
While that might be true, for us-kids born in 90s it was actually Bam that put HIM on the map! Idk for older folks, I think my mom heard it before on MTV but basically all my friends discovered HIM from Jackass/Cky/Viva la bam franchise. And I'm comming from Central Europe, not US. About Bam-hate him as much as you want, I don't agree with his lifestyle he led as well but I think it's safe to say that it is a fact he helped popularize HIM. Peace brotha
For sure was a US thing lol. I remember them and the rasmus was played on a loop on telehit and this is a Latino program. I remember them being huge in Mexico. The US was always behind on good music 💀
А вашу группу я впервые услышала на прощальном концерте HIM в ДК Ленсовета. Очень понравились, стала слушать. Так что спасибо моей любимой группе HIM, что благодаря им, открыла для себя вас!)
Absolutely agree! The first time I’ve actually heard about Bam was after 3-4 months of being a HIM fan.
@@svijapes I am from the U.S., but have family all over the world, so I know, because I saw both cases.
Also, I don’t hate Bam or love him. I don’t know any of these people enough to have an opinion about them. I wish others felt the same way.
Peace right back to you, man! 🖤
Bam was obsessed with Ville for sure 😂
Bam straight up jacked the heartagram.
He had permission to use it.
He got the same tattoos as Valo.
I hate that people think that the Heartagram is Bam’s.
he also made it more famous then him could of ever. they were famous in one continent before bam gave them the spotlight..
He bought the rights to it if i remember correctly.
Bam's relationship with Ville was parasocial obsession 101. On Viva La Bam, you see he had Ville photos & posters hung above his bed and all throughout his house. He's copied multiple of Ville's heartagram tats, including the one Ville has above his crotch. As a kid, I just thought that Bam was super supportive of his friend's band, but that's not best friend behavior lol. He def was 1000% obsessively in love with him.
I agree 100%. IMO his obsession was indeed sexual. He just never became self aware enough and humble enough to admit it. Jackass was always pro homosexuality.
OH MAN agreed. So wild to look back on and everyone just went with it
%100000000 lol yup I agree
I wonder what Missy would have to say about this. Lol.
Facts
100% Bam was/is in love with Ville
Naw just idolized him
I hope so!
@@senbonzakurakageyoshi92 idolized? The dude was obsessed with Ville, lurk more.
He’d surely put it up Ville’s rear. No doubt.
Everybody is
Ok, Bam is alright, but man, we in Europe discovered Bam through HIM not HIM through Bam. I can appreciate his obsession with HIM, most of us feel the same, but it wasn't that influential, HIM was HUGE in Europe way before Dark Light
Speak for yourself. I've looked them up after an episode of Viva la bam where they where going to a concert from them .
Preach
@@Fatrick_Star You are delusional. Get your facts straight. HIM already had their career way before meeting Bam.
@@KMnnA Of course they had "A career", but they wouldn't have been known in America or most other countries without Bam, get real.
@@KMnnA I never said they didn't lol. I found them through the show.
it's been several years since this interview and I still laugh really hard every time i see Ville's expression and hear his answer about Bam and disarm me XD what a great interview!!
Seemed defensive
Agreed, that was a harsh take down but done so charmingly 😂
You can see he's taken aback, when he's asked. Laughing in omg.
I just love HIM so much 🖤
Me too🤘🏻
Ville has always been an amazing artist, and HIM was HUGE in Europe before Bam even came across them. It was only a matter a time before they made it big in the US. HIM should be acknowledged more for their music and less for their association with Bam
Amen ! This was a true HIM fan would say. I'm an American fan and I still know this, sure Bam did promote them but many other fans in America act as if HIM was only successful here in the USA because of Bam, it's so ignorant.
🌹 ❤
They definitely weren’t “huge” before bam. They were popular in certain European countries but not many. Bam definitely brought a big number of fans to the band. I don’t get why people get so upset about this it doesn’t take anything away from how insanely talented ville and the band are.
And you’re not cool by telling everyone on RUclips you knew who him were before bam you’re just a hipster.
Agree BAM wishes he was Ville
Mans was in love with Ville. Can we move on from this now and talk about the new single, the new album coming, and the tour? Appreciate the artist please, not the gossip. Y'all are loudwire...don't embarrass yourselves
It's time for a new interview with the man, VV himself!!
Ville Valo is an incredibly talented person. I respect him. And I love his work!
Thank you for this video 🤘
He is not talented. He just happen to be part of it at that time. Were is he now? Radio ? Studio ? No So F that oppinion
He starts touring in 2023
I just do not believe some comments here. HIM were huge in the underground circle before Bam, I saw them live headlining the most popular goth festival in Mexico with huge names of that time from around the globe (2002), they were massive here since Razorblade Romance: I like Bam but he and people like Kat Von D taking credit... I understand, they were close friends but leave the man to do what he loves to do. He never needed a guy so sickly obsessed with him and a girl that acts the same way. C'mon.
Facts. Bam was super obsessed with Ville. I mean I get it but he let it get in the way if his “friendship” with him
Bam and Ville where party friends. Bam a great fan and has his own talent but regarding the music talent all Ville. Glad you asked the tougher questions
Ville is being real classy about, answering bam question..
My mom showed me HIM's Wicked Game cover and she was obsessed with Ville for awhile before I started watching Bam. That's how I discovered them.
My favorite album is screamworks! I wish he would get the band back together but can't wait for his solo album
The music Ville's been releasing is similar to the Screamworks and Tears On Tape sound. It's really good!
HIM/VILLE VALO RULES 🇫🇮🤘🏻
Bam was in love with Ville, for sure. He has multiple tattoos about him, including a portrait on his dominant forearm 👀 sus but cute
The feelings were mutual.
Talk about obsession over someone. That's just pathetic.
he and Kat still talk about Ville and he doesn't. So I guess that says everything. I still remember the post that is now delete on IG from heartagram when Kat said that she wrote her album for Ville
@@MissieK Ville didn't post that though. It was posted by "heartagramteam" which is basically just a street team. IMO the post was kinda stupid and not something Ville would agree on. Although some fans like to think that Ville dislikes Kat, the truth is he's never spoken badly about her in interviews.
@@suicidebambi I know it wasn't posted by Ville himself but I doubt that a team that works with him would post something that is not approved by him. Often heartagramteam has given info about Ville and if he is well etc and I am sure they wouldn't do that either if he wasn't okay with it. He doesn't speak badly about others, he is sarcastic.
Bam is the type of dude who thinks everything has to be about him
♥️♥️ Thanks for your endless Love and support you have constantly shown me. I’m forever grateful. I really appreciate your unconditional love and support towards me.. Where are you watching from?
I don't think Dunn would want Bam destroying himself. He always wanted Bam to be Happy. And Still does.
@Chris Monk
I hope so too. He is a total jackass in every way, but he deserves to be able to forgive himself for a lot of things. It sounds cheesy, I know, but a long talk with God really can work wonders.
I honestly think that when Ryan passed, it took Bam with him and he’s been trying to catch up ever since. Survivor’s Remorse can be a heck of a thing. 🥺
Here in Europe we discovered Bam through Him
Ville valo's reaction 🤣 1:50
I've never understood why Bam was associated with the popularity of H.I.M. ( and this is coming from an American), that's just like everybody assumes that "Razor Blade Romance" or "Deep Shadows And Brilliant Highlights" were the first albums of H.I.M's that I've listen to. But no, it was "Greatest Love Songs Volume 666" in 1998 because of my foreign exchange student lab partner in high school.
I think for some people it's because he is what introduced them to the band, and he made the band popular with those people. I'm sure it also helped that Bam was a pretty popular figure during his Jackass/MTV days, and since he was bringing attention to the band I'm sure some just want to associate him with the band. I was introduced to HIM thanks to Bam and one of his CKY videos (CKY2K I believe), so the band is popular with me personally because of Bam and whether I still care for Bam or not I'll always associate him with the band because of that.
its because bam used the heartagram evrywhere and people associated that symbol for bam but it was actually just his favrite bands symbol
Yeah I think it really depends on the person. I knew about HIM because a friend liked them and I was into that kind of music. I wasn't into skateboarding so I had no idea who Bam was until I saw some commercial for one of his shows and noticed the heartagram. I don't feel like this genre of music and the skateboarding world necessarily have a ton of overlap so it seems really unfair to attribute so much of their US success to Bam. I also really didn't and still don't understand their friendship if you can call it that
He's got the same Fields of the Nephilim shirt as me, nice. Got my ticket to see him later this year.
Plus i can't get over the fact Steve O got the Heartagram tattoo with 'ME' instead of HIM
I discovered Him at a music show from my contry (like Mtv but from Spain). I didnt know abour Bam Margera until I started playing Tony Hawk videogames in play station 1, and that was way after Him.
Maybe they got more famouse in USA because of Bam, but they already were very famous in Europe.
I hate when people see my heartagram tattoo and say "thats the bam margera logo right??" ..........no
nice shirt Valo, my favorite band ever Fields of the Nephilim
Bam was a superfan. He saw them during his skating tour and had enough money to throw at them to interest them all into making a few MVs. They were great MVs in my opinion but that doesn't make him responsible for their attention.
Were they great friends? Debatable. In most of the Behind the Scenes or Viva episodes they were usually shit faced or too high to care about anything else.
And honestly Bam just needs to give it a rest. He's an absolute mess and also the only member of the Jackass group who hasn't grown up at all. Mentioning his name around Ville didn't surprise me; the guy tried mimicking Ville in so many ways but was still just a childish asshole.
But in no way was he responsible for making HIM big. Just commercialized.
You lost me at your first pompous indentation. Yes, it fucking does make Bam responsible for the attention they've gotten. You're showing the entire world your absolute bias. Just because you like the band, doesn't mean that they didn't gain most of their popularity from Bam, who has since proven himself to be a complete circus clown in terms of respect from literally anyone worth mentioning. You can be in denial about it all you want, but it's the truth.
Yeah you're objectively wrong, HIM lost all traction and earning ability in North America after Bam stopped promoting and being relevant. Bam was the only thing anchoring them to western success
You can't say that Bam had no impact on their success. I would say he played a huge factor. And I could care less
I only just learned of "HIM" because I was looking up Bam & something came up with him & Ville. I had watched Bam quite a bit but never had seen or heard of HIM/Ville. So, I mean you can't say that Bam still isn't introducing people to HIM. Anyways, his reaction to that comment about Bam? I swear, Ville protests too much. That body language says everything.
@kkittycatkat1990 Your perspective doesn't speak for everyone else's. HIM was also a headliner for a lot of music video shows back in the early 00's. I know because I discovered HIM by watching MTV's New Music episodes and found out about his friendship because of Viva la Bam.
Back then gothic rock was thriving and it was hard to like it without hearing bands like HIM and 69 Eyes. ,
Lol Ville laughed, he said come on now. Bam wishes he was with Ville .
Lol Bam also took credit for HIM being popular. He basically stole the heartagram as if it was his design. I loved Bam in Jackass, but he does have a very large ego.
Actually Ville gave the permission to Bam to use Heartagram.
@@nessujokinen That he did...but years later Bam made it out like it was his ....and Ville put a cnd on Bam using it.
You know the funny thing is I keep hearing "Bam Margera" but I honestly don't know who he is yet I grew up listing to HIM soooooooo.....
@@CrimsionMoon 🖤🖤🖤
Bam was a massive fan, he never claimed the heartagram was his.
Bam loves Bam waaay to much.
I always believed that Bam had a secret crush on Vile
Not so secret lol
he was in love with him lmao. obsessively. but obviously was never self aware enough to realize that he wasn't so straight-
Yeah, not so secret 😂
I am a HIM fan and a Bam fan, it sucks that Ville and Bam had a falling out and aren't friends anymore but seeing how Bam has turned out now, I see why Ville prefers not to be around Bam. Sorry not sorry.
Bam has Mathew now from 616 lol
You ever listen to their stuff? He’s even in one of their songs
If HIM were around today they could be as big as Foo Fighters.
OMG, i didnt know Ville could laugh like a normal person.
About Bam, the guy has personality issues. But i also think Ville is kinda cold. Probably because he is an artist he seeks unreal love that prevents him from getting into a long true relationship. I don't know, its just an impression. But if im right, damn, it must have been like a knife into Bam's heart. Not saying that it was a romantic thing, but i am pretty sure he felt the rejection
Greetings from Macedonia
HIM ❤️❤️❤️
HIM FUCKING RULES!!
No. No they don’t lol.
Everyone moaning about how in Europe HIM was big before Bam made them big in the U.S are completely ignoring the context that this is an American interview where it’s the other way around. We have different perceptions and that’s ok.

Bam needed him n ville not other way. Too much talent in this band to need any support

Loving that Fields of the Nephilim shirt, Ville! Great band.

But he is still active and releasing new music 🧐
I dont even know who bam is. Wings of a butterfly and kiss of dawn was my starter songs and i have been obssesed ever sense.
It was probably "Right here in my arms" or something.
For some reason I don't like this interviewer, he seemed to not really be listening. As soon as he heard Ville mention Disarm Me, he jumped at the opportunity to ask about Bam's theory about it being about him without really letting Ville even finish his thought. After Ville laughed about it and addressed it, the interviewer seemed kinda uninterested in everything else.
For real. This guy is a fan but has no interview skills.
If Bam Margera was able to be TRUTHFUL about his feelings for Ville Valo then maybe he wouldn't be in such a bad place these days.
He obviously had a huge crush on him, but what fucked him up was the death of Ryan Dunn. That guy was his best friend/ lover as far as I know.
Bam bam
He drank a lot of water for picking it up, putting it to his lips and not drinking it, lol
I'm assuming it was a coping mechanism for having to do an awkward interview for an ex alcoholic
I thought the same thing at first and then remembered he’s an ex alcoholic and it may be a nervous tic when asked a weird question etc
By the title I thought this was some wanna be gossip fan channel not loudwire lol. It's a bit of a reach to credit Bam for what the band accomplished in popularity in a major way outside of the US, although I honestly can't see them getting mainstream rock big as they did in the states with out him... this is coming from a fan who found HIM through Bam lmao. This claim with the song didn't need to be "set straight" or responded to. The man was and still tbh is in love with Ville... He was a fanboy who couldn't figure out if he wanted to be Valo or be with Valo and so he installed himself into their lives. Their relationship was literally drug and drink fueled with the music scene as a backdrop. I loved the music videos and the laughs they made together and the fact that they were the hyper fixation of my teen years but it's been 900 years yall... The fact that he got licensing for the heartagram though...
We collectively need to move tf on. Talk about the new music and wish Bam well in recovery......
♥️🤝🤝 Thanks for your endless Love and support you have constantly shown me. I’m forever grateful. I really appreciate your unconditional love and support towards me.. Where are you watching from?
Bam's ego is HUGE 🤣🤣🤣
1:19 is the bit about bam.
I’m curious as to why Ville and Bam had a falling out. April, Bam’s mother, still says Ville is a “lovely man” and has nothing bad to say about him.
Can I point out that the first CKY came out in 1996 and featured HIM music so HIM being big in Europe and Russia 5-6 years later is not a great argument.
Can I point out that your facts are way off? HIM's debut album wasn't even out until late 1997. Bam discovered the band in 2000. So he certainly didn't have any of HIM's music on any CKY stuff back in 1996...
@@suicidebambi have you watched cky 1
@@calebsmith2129 No I have not. I'm just saying there is no way Bam used any HIM music on anything back in 1996 because a) HIM didn't have any albums out and b) he didn't even know they existed.
I saw this documentary on bam on vice where April comes out saying that bam had a weird obsession with ville his style his physique that he also got the same tattoos that ville got almost like he wanted to be ville
Even Bam talked about it, how he wanted to be him where girls fainted when they saw him haha
Guess Bam giving a handy to Novak on that plane makes more sense now 😂
I grew up in Sweden left Sweden in 2001 and already knew H.I.M. when I came to America didn’t know bam tho
I know HIM through Bam but to fair… i was born in 2001
HIM is a cool band. Good stuff to get stoned to
Bam didn’t introduce me to H.I.M.? I became massively attached on my own for their portrayals in the lyrics
I will admit that I noticed them at first on CKY3
I wasn’t massively impressed or disappointed by Screamworks
Ville at some point has to be tired of hearing about bam.
lol Checkmate!
What even happened between the two?
Liars and abusers got in the way.
Bam did. The dude is fucking up his own life after Dunn died. That's why everyone is cutting ties with him, not just Valo.
Stopped being friends. Bam actually stopped being friends with Ville before Ryan passed away.
There's old videos of Ryan reading letters about how Bam felt about Ville and was assuming he was "writing songs" about him. Ville was getting clean and was likely getting sick of Bam's toxic bullshit so they stopped. Bam went nuclear and that's when it was revealed just how obsessed he was with this musician.
It didn't get better after Ryan's death but Bam essentially did what he does best, break shit and ruin it beyond repair.
@@loveydovey9733 I think that's pretty accurate.
Of course there might be things we don't know about, but assumably they started drifting apart after V's rehab. Their friendship seemed to be based on drinking, partying and Bam idolizing Ville... After V quit drinking and partying, was there really much left?
Those "open letters" Bam posted were rather cringey. Like, if he wanted to reach out to Ville (or felt he had a bone to pick or whatever), maybe should've picked up the phone instead of posting public videos about it.
@@suicidebambi Exactly. Once Ville was chilling out, that's when Bam started "hating" his music because it wasn't "the same" anymore and at that point is probably when they just fizzled out.
I honestly think that Ville blocked him on everything possible. They had each others numbers, sure, but I'm willing to bet he blocked him and that's what prompted Bam to do the public callout - cos he couldn't stand being ignored by his idol.
Mr. V is right, Bam does take too much credit... But... So does V, ha!
Yes he did.
