  • What time of day do you train Jiu-Jitsu? There are 3 major class times that BJJ folks fall into, each has it's benefits and potential downsides. Early Morning Movers, the Lunch time Killers and the Night time ninjas. For you it may be a simple decision of where the heck can I just fit in my training?
    But if you haven't tried training at other times in the day you might be missing out. Whatever your work schedule might be JT & Joey explain why training at a different time in the day can benefit your BJJ learning and memory retention. Since changing from night to morning classes JT has improved his recovery dramatically. Joey trains lunches and nights and it works for him but what no one tells you are the potential draw backs to each different time slot- could the time of day you train be holding back your progress in Jiu-Jitsu. This episode offers some different perspectives that can help you think about your training differently.

    At my gym, we have 11 am to 12 pm classes and 7 pm to 8pm classes for adults 12+. The 7pm classes are mostly teenagers and early 20 year olds, and the 11 am classes are mostly professionals with careers and 30+ year olds. What I like about the 11 am class is that the adults are respectful and really try not to get injured, whereas the young adults in the 7pm class all go too hard and don't seem to have any concern for injury. But, why would they? I mean, they're young and feel invincible, and if they get injured, they'll likely recover much quicker. That's the main difference I've noticed about training at different times. Personally, I like the culture of 11 am class, but I would prefer to get a run in the morning and then do evening class.

    5am open mat, 6 am class. We have all levels of intensity and age. A good group of guys. I train at vamos mma and it's a big school. The 6pm class is like 100 students or at least it feels that way. We have great teachers, Alex and Chris Vamos, Joe D'Arce and others but the mats are very populated after work. That 5am open mat has plenty of room to breathe.

    Sat on the couch ready to leave for my lunchtime class and you post this lol.. Works out great for me, kids are at school, had time to wake up and eat.. then if I did have a "easy" lunchtime class, I can still go to the evening session if I feel I need it.. also found mornings have smaller classes so we are able to engage with the proff easier/for longer I feel. ❤👊🏻🤙🏻

    The choice of which class for me came down to injuries, I just had less when I went to the evening class because my body was warmed up and more ready for a harder session. If the class was easier, it was all good but the extra time before class gave my body time to be ready for what was coming.

    My school is very different from what you guys say here! No early class, only lunch from 12 to 2pm, than evening from 6pm to 8pm. Definitely more black belts in the lunch session at my school, you get great guidance! OSS

    Gotta love lunch time classes especially since they're smaller, get to pre chat a bit more sometimes but that pre stretch with an empty gym is beautiful.
    As a noob I often felt I would train with fellow dad's which meant most of them were a heavier size so made it sometimes easier vs people of same weight with evening classes, typically of younger age... Same with Muay Thai

    I feel that I have way more energy in the morning class. I don't eat anything and don't take any caffeine before the morning class. After working, eating, and consuming caffeine during the day, I notice my performance degrades quickly in the evening classes. I get more cramps, and have more stomach issues, as well.

    I love the morning sessions... but i get so wrecked afterwards... my body just wants to slumber for a few hours. So I've been doing lunch times and mostly night classes.

    What and / or how does training differ between belts?

    • @bulletproofforbjj
      @bulletproofforbjj  2 месяца назад

      Thats super individual but sometimes people are restricted based on class timetable so colour belts might have to train at certain times.
