I discovered this performance relatively recently and immediately fell in love with it. If it weren't for Tarja, I wouldn't have started listening to classical music, opera or metal. Tarja is one of the few artists who once strongly defined what I would listen to throughout my life. And she still does.
What an emotional song and reaction❤ The tattoo that she has on her arm, I believe she got it around 2017. So this is quite a new recording. Tarja really has a huge range and you will only got to know it if you do also her solo career (which you have done😊) She also does so many different genres, not only rock but classical and now kinda techno and so on. Another really good and classical song is Mein Herr Marquis from beauty and the beat concert.
The tattoo is matched by one on her lower leg. She got it after her 40th birthday. It reads "Die Alive" the title of one of her singles. This would probably be from a Christmas concert could be from 2022 in Eastern Europe.
I've been to 6 Tarja concerts (all metal) since I first heard her voice in 2013. Ten years following her. And one of the surprises I got from the first concert I went to is how sweet and light her voice can be, despite the dark tone she has. Her voice is so unique. well, I remember how she sounded when she studied at Sibelius Academy and was something like 20. We all not deaf of course and hear how beautiful her material is and how wide is her natural range. I am an educated opera singer and only one thing I am wondering about is if she herself hears her nowadays vibrato. She also mentioned that she still has a voice couch (which is very praiseworthy and unavoidable for each and every classical singer in profession). Why then this couch didn't do anything about it?
There are many like you who have heard Floor first and then just won't listen to Tarja that much. So here's a big thank you from me. Tarja hits all these high notes, but it isn't about hitting the high notes. Floor can do this too. But Tarja's voice is much warmer and darker and in this respect stronger than Floors, and that's why I love her even more. And what's more, since she has left Nightwish in 2005 she has become a songwriter, a composer and just sings what she wants in every style of music. Something you can't do when you are just the singer of a band singing someone elses songs. Tarja is masterclass in every discipline. Still loving Floor also, but there is no one else like Tarja.
I don't think Floor is that amazing. I think she's a little bit overrated. Beautiful, melodic, romantic voice yes. But that's it. Tarja's voice becomes transcendental at times. Epic. Grandiose.

Yes, Floor's stength lies in her enormous variety of styles she can sing. So she is a very good singer and probably the best choice for NW nowadays and NW probably would not exist anymore without her. But the colour of Tarja's voice is much warmer and darker. She could fill opera halls without a mic for sure and sing for hours in that style. Floor can't do that. Her voice is to thin for that. And on the other side of the scale there are better 'growlers' than Floor as well. Floor has just one solo album, and the songs are pretty normal to me. So what she mainly does is singing Tuomas's songs nowadays. Tarja is way more creative than her. Still I like Floor also, but I have a clear preference for Tarja.

To me it gives an idea of her classical style....and that song is naturally great. She also makes the same song with Marco in RJ shows maybe 2019 or so - yes with Marco, so emotional moment.

Mein Herr Marquis IS opera and outside her formal training in her youth which was Classical/Chamber music. Like where she often chooses to sing now. The more intimate theatres with a few thousand seats. Maybe 5000 it gives the best experience. More dates. Some of those US dates are only $25.00 a seat!! She does not do this for money. For the band and the crew sure. She and her family are just fine. Getting more up and close allows for the warmth 15k + seat arenas never will. Plus the huge overhead involved. My respect for her continues to grow.

It's not classical overall but is a more symphonic and sober-minded album of traditional songs, like "O Tannenbaum" and "O Come O Come Emmanuel". It's not party-friendly because it is more serious and heavier in tone but it's become my favorite Christmas album ever. But the lyrics of the song are worth noting.
