Great review, Eric. I absolutely love my Kindle! I have the Oasis 10th Generation also. It was my first eReader. Amazon has been wonderful when I've needed them for help. Almost all the excuses I had before for not getting an eReader proved to be wrong. I read far more now than ever. Reading is more fun, accessible and easier. I realized that one big reason I stopped buying books for many years is that I just don't have any more room for them. That is not even an issue with eReaders. Also, no more awkwardly trying to hold open a book and trying to find the right light to read by. I can search for definitions right on the device, make notes and highlights and even send in suggestions for corrections all right from the device. What took me so long to buy one?!
As far as the ghosting, the problem can be solved by going to all settings, selecting Reading Options and turn on Page Refresh. Like shaking an Etch A Sketch, this completely clears the page before writing a new one. However, this refresh causes the page to flash momentarily and can be annoying. I have the option turned off and live with the slight occasional ghosting.

Hi. How do you like your oasis compared to the Voyage? I can’t seem to find many true reasons to upgrade. I have a case that is waterproof, so have that portion covered. And audiobooks are usually best on my phone, as I rarely listen to them.

    • @loumartin8851
      @loumartin8851 3 года назад +1

@@LaQueenPanda Honestly, while I'm enjoying my Oasis, there is no valid reason to upgrade. Had I not been able to get the deal that I did, I wouldn't have done it, which is why I hadn't done it before, lol. I only upgraded because I could do so at less than half the retail price, and quite simply, because I'm a gadget nerd, lol. I wouldn't even say it was worth the $99 cost, I just wanted it, and for a lousy $99 I wanted to indulge. I can't give you any practical reason to upgrade, because there really isn't one.

The ghosting from the previous page is a result of the high speed page changes. It's not a full reset of the page. You should be able to switch that in the settings so it looks cleaner, but the page turn might take longer.

If you're a casual reader and only read 1-2 books a year, it's cheaper to buy paper copies or read the books on your phone or computer than even investing in a Paperwhite. Or if you're really keen on an e-reader, the base model is still a great alternative. I don't think most people would spend >$100 USD for an e-reader of they don't read often

    • @kindlentech316

True, they are not for everybody. But if you travel a lot then even carrying 2-3 books is still a pain. Plus, you can search for text in kindle and save highlights. You can also always buy a used Kindle.

Do manga comic books count? I don’t read books, but I have a collection of graphic novels and comics I’ve bought in the Kindle, Barnes & Noble, and Rakuten stores - over 100GBs.

I bought the Kindle Oasis 10th Gen too on a black friday sale, and so far I'm loving it. I just wanted to let you know that under Settings, Reading Options, if you enable Page Refresh you shouldn't have ghosting issues when turning pages. I personally like how previous texts stay on the screen because it looks like if there's a thin layer of paper on top of what I currently have on the screen, specially when I lock the screen. I had a Kindle Voyage for a few years and I loved it! But finally the battery started wearing down. I would’ve replaced it with another Voyage but they discontinued that model 😢 Anyway, I didn’t want to go backwards so I was looking at the Oasis which I thought was too pricey. But Amazon let me trade in my Voyage and at the same time they had some deal where I could get a certain amount off the Oasis. I don’t recall how much I actually paid for the Oasis but it was a decent enough price that I went for I. I do love the Oasis 💕

    Terrific review!
I absolutely love reading on my Oasis.
For all the reasons you mentioned - the feel of it...the ergonomics...the fast processor - the larger size...the lighting....it all makes for comfortable and even luxurious reading.
But I do have to say - so far I’m pretty disappointed in the battery.
I’m on my second one already because the first was only charging to 98 and the battery was down to 60 % or 70 % at night with just an hour or so of reading if that.
That’s Tablet battery life - not Kindle!
My last Paperwhite would easily last a month - and still does 7 years later.
Hopefully this new one they sent as a replacement will be better!
    How is your battery life?
Any tips besides the usual keeping WiFi off?

I have three Kindles and a Kindle Fire. I am a voracious reader😀, reading several books a week. I use the Kindle paperwhite to carry in my purse, as it is quite compact, and I have two Kindle Oasis, bought at different times, as I wanted the warm light feature for reading at night because the lighting on the first voyager bothered my eyes at night-the warm light feature is wonderful - I use the Kindle fire, (which I bought on sale) to download non-fictionbooks that have maps, charts and photographs, as they look so much better on the fire than they do on the Kindle e-reader. I also I have Kindle apps on my iPads, but I find that for reading text, nothing compares to the Kindle Oasis. If you are not an avid reader, you probably would do fine with the basic model.

The "burn in" is a side-effect of the E-ink display it's not burn in, in the traditional sense and will always go away after a screen refresh.
If you are finding it where it's distracting try changing the refresh of the screen to be more regularly (a refresh is when the screen briefly goes all black) in the settings you can change how frequently it does this.
In the settings you can choose how many pages it should display before refreshing.
