This is exactly what is needed with regard to classical art. Take it out of the citadels of Brahminical hegemony and it has the capacity to be a force for social commentary and change. Take it out of the Kutcherees and Sabhas. Democratize it.
Yes. But a Brahmin will be the performer and leader. Whether it may be TM Krishna or Suhasini. Only Brahmins can lead us to deliverance. They need to stop all this nonsense and vacate the stage to Bahujans. Give the art back to Bahujans. For all his talk, TM Krishna doesn't have a single Dalit student. Hypocrisy at its best.
Nobody has kept classical art restricted to the citadels of Brahminical hegemony. Maybe that was the case in history, but it's not anymore. Anyone is free to learn and practise classical art. It is in a democratized form. If people aren't relating to it, it's because people don't try to understand it. Since this video is about a general social problem like garbage disposal, you understand it without any effort. A classical repertoire would have more poetic interpretations which takes effort to understand and hence you feel it's out of your reach.
What love, what courage, what spirituality, what beauty, what dignity, what poise, what character, what love, what generosity throughout the performance... prose and poetry intertwined. Mother Earth is crying out for help. A million thanks to the whole team... most especially thank you Suhasini Koulagi and TM Krishna... History will remember and honor you. God bless
In Bangalore, we have entire tech parks constructed by encroaching on lakes, but they still manage to get nature friendly and green building tag. What an irony. What is it that these buildings are destroying and what is it that they are creating? Our entire idea of development is twisted.
Wonderful Amazing adaptation of Classical dance for environmental awareness Big round of applause. Governments shall be ashamed and accept their failure in managing Environment. 👏👏👏👏👏👏
wonderful expressions to a soulful rendering and a reminder of our times by @T.M.Krishna in disturbing locales. Thank you for using your art and talent to get across an important point. All strength to you, every step matters.
Awesome 👍 message powerfully put across through art! Must keep sharing and sharing till it reaches across to everyone. Instead of forwarding useless songs it's important that this touches the heart of the people. A salute to the artists involved in the creation of the best vedios I've seen in recent times.
Connecting people to their cultural roots and reminding what the culture is really about is amazing. I strongly believe that such messages have power to awaken the communities.
Art with a purpose! Take a bow! In an age when every human activity is oriented towards more money, it takes lot of courage to rise up and stand up for a deeper purpose. TM Krishna certainly deserves credit for starting the movement and it is heartening that many are taking up similar leads in their respective field.
Groundwater has been the common resource targeted by every body which the poromboke song needs to emphasize. Currently 70% of irrigation in India is from Groundwater and 90 percent of drinking water needs are met by groundwater. With increasing probability of well failure, after green revolution, the life of borewells is drastically falling forcing farmers to drill more wells due to increasing initial and premature failures of wells. This is also increasing the cost of drilling wells as the cost of failed wells also needs to be included in the cost of successful well. According to our estimates, the cost of groundwater irrigation forms at least 15 percent of cost of cultivation of perennial crops (such as pomegranate, papaya, coconut, ....) and 30 percent of cost of cultivation of seasonal crops (like vegetables for example) and these costs are not properly accounted by any organization such as Commission for Agricultural Costs and Prices, the Directorate of Economics and Statistics, Farm Management Surveys and so on. Therefore the minimum support price fixed by the Government does not include the component of groundwater irrigation cost and accordingly the farmers cultivating groundwater crops are virtually subsidizing the consumers to the tune of 15 to 30 percent of the cost of cultivation and as these beneficiaries are largely in urban areas, the urban consumers are enjoying consumption of vegetables, fruits cultivated using groundwater at a very cheap price, as this is not including the groundwater irrigation cost. These costs need to be highlighted in Poromboke. What is crucial in Poromboke is to highlight the urban consumers who are building palatial buildings, apartments, homes by using the sand from villages (commons) and groundwater resource, thus causing desertification of villages, and not Make in India. Every one of urban consumer is responsible for destroying the commons and we need to look back at our life style, possession of car/s, vehicles, with no ethics of sharing and caring. Instead of introspection, we unfortunately blame the Governance. God bless all.
Great music, and the Bharatnantyam just increases the intensity of the message. Great work with cinematography. You played with light the right way. One suggestion. Camera movement was not there and made it slightly still. Any follow, or quick change in angle would have complimented the piece. Great work akka Chinua
Appreciate the thought. But i wonder why you had to choose areas of Bengaluru to explain your Tamil words and thoughts. I am sure you would have got better areas in Tamil nadu for the same concept.
It was first taken in Ennore - chennai. People have chosen to take the song to different locations, to create awareness of the same issue happening in different areas.
It was originally shot in Ennore on the outskirts of Chennai, near the Ennore thermal station, who have dumped fly ash a by product of a thermal station , on the Ennore creek estuary where the excess water flows into the Bay of Bengal. In fact this blockage resulted in Chennai getting flooded in 2015 and 2016. This song was composed and sung in Karnatik music to highlight the problem of industrialisation at the cost of human lives. The problem is same in Bengaluru too. Anbu sriram , Bengaluru.
Divine art form is being used to describe mundane things… totally not needed. As though all the non Carnatic masses are amazed and appreciative of this song? I bet this is all stupid things done to get attention.
How about picking up that waste instead of dancing in between that ? Can you ? No right , you need a harijan to pick it up , you upper class people just dance and sing and create social awareness ........Irony and harsh reality of our society

Strong presentation.Appreciate the idea,effort .
Sharing sharing sharing!
Bohot AaaLaa. Beautiful. What a concept. and the lady was dancing in very rough places with bare feet. Too difficult. a Commendable job.
India will win its land from industry, but that fight may take some divine intervention for sure. So much power in one poromboke. In one person.
Connecting people to their cultural roots and reminding what the culture is really about is amazing. I strongly believe that such messages have power to awaken the communities.

Sadly it's very easy to find garbage dumps in Bangalore.

Only Brahmins can be leaders brother. You and me should follow them.
@@aestheticsofsociety you are over reacting. Your prejudice against harijan is equally contributing to the cancer in the society.
@rihan How could she pick the rag ? That would pass of as Swachh bharat campaign by Modi ! This song is taunt for Modi's make in India. policy.
