Looks like amazing books! I agree with the index, but I can live with it. Oh man, don’t tell me I could have saved $250 with my already paid for Genii. Lol. You know I have to have the book anyway. Looking online is not good enough for me. I have to touch the book and have it available at a fingers touch. Great review! Thank you! I’m jealous you got your copy already. The only good thing for me is my copy getting hear the day after my wife and oldest daughter leave for Alaska. Now I won’t get caught buying more books. Now to save up for my conventions next year. 1. The Senior Tour (St Louis) 2. Magifest 3. S.A.M. in New Orleans 4. All Things Magic If I can sneak 1 or two in I will.
Nice review. I just ordered the set and it's on the way. When i placed the order from VI, they put a pdf of the index in my downloads section. The pdf is searchable, which really helps with the index problem you pointed out in the review.
I love all things Joshua Jay and I probably already have half of the Magic magazines in a box in my closet but most likely will buy this just to have it all one place (and because I’m an Erudite magician). Thanks for the great and timely review, Jeff!
Great and honest review as always. I would love to get my hands on these volumes and consider myself a serious student... but I really can't bring myself to drop 250 bucks on it. At least not now. I'm hoping that because it's Josh's book and published through his company that it stays in print for a while or returns for another print run periodically. Valid point about the index. That would drive me nuts! Also, a big pet peeve I've brought up about other books (and I thought you were going there for a minute with the scale) is how obnoxiously large the volumes are. As long as they were breaking it up into two slipcased volumes, why not go a little further and break it into 3 or even 4 much smaller books? Much easier to handle on the couch, in bed, or even in a book holder at the table. Anyhow, keep up the great reviews!
Fun review, Jeff! I just received my copy of the set yesterday. They look wonderful, but I doubt I'll be laying bed reading them, or, if so, that'll be how I'll be found with a crushed chest:-). I completely agree in regards to the category index. This annoys me no end. Also, even though I have a complete run of MAGIC, it is great to have all of these columns in one place.
@@EruditeMagic Yeah right you are! @@EruditeMagic Risers Are Red and Breakless Aces are fun tricks with cool methods. I'm barely breaking into these books, though. So much material to enjoy here!
I know they're enormous, but I haven't loved any of the tricks that Joshua Jay has been sharing on social media. Also, as a Canadian, due to duties and the exchange rate, these will cost more like $350. Finally, I primarily use my books as references, and so giant volumes with a low quality index are much much less useful than they otherwise would be. This has me leaning towards the Genii solution you proposed. Thanks!
Trust me when I tell you there are plenty of gems, but I understand your concerns. The index is fine, but could have been much better (IMO). Glad the video helped you make a decision 👍
Unrelated but have you read Seventh Heaven by Lewis Jones? I have been totally engrossed in the book for weeks now. So much great magic along the lines of Simon Aronson and Paul Harris. Wonderful, clever, and engaging book. Highly recommended!
Another brillant review. Gorgeous resource. Amazing! A life time of study and work! Appreciate that it is out there! But.... 25 stage & 25 close-up that have been seriously road tested and audience approved. I think that is my goal. This resource is not for me:)
I don't like books that big. You can't flip through them casually. I'm more drawn to monographs by a single magician, or books around a single theme or issue. Regardless of how good the content is, it's just too diverse -- there'd be way too much in a collection like that that I wouldn't be interested in to justify the cost. I'd be happy if someone gave it to me as a gift, but I'm never spending $250 of my own hard earned money on it. I enjoyed the review though.
The trap beat while the books were on the scale 🤣 I didn't know you were this funny.
Haha, thanks? 😆
Jeff- I'm so grateful for you, and for this channel. You go above and beyond. Thank You!!
Thank you for the kind words, Sasha - thank you for being an Erudite Magician‼️
Nice review. Jeff in very knowledgeable.
Josh is way more knowledgeable than me!

Love the plan, and you'll like having the physical books as a resource

Thanks, Rick! That's great to know 👍 Good customer service
I had to order this one immediately. Awesome review. I like what I saw in his previous DVD. I'm looking forward to diving in!
You're going to love it!!
Fantastic video Jeff! I will be rewatching this while I wait for my copy to arrive! 😁
So glad you liked the video, Evan! Enjoy the books - I know you'll love reading through them

I understand your thoughts on breaking it up, but the more hard covers and DJs, the higher the price 🤷

Thanks, Kalvin. I don't see it as a substitute for the books, but I think it could help you make a decision if you want them on your shelf.

How much is it?
$250, unless you want to save $15 with Don this week via code "TALK"

So much good magic, so little time.
