I am so glad that these type of methods are still excellent to use these days!! So many ( mentalists), on AGT, and similar tv shows are using electronics and hidden cameras, but to me the methods are perhaps too prrfect!! Such as a large die that is turned over by spectator covered with a large cup, performer turns back and names number on top or bottom of die, then demo is repeated several times but this is just too obvious that electronics are being used!!! Thank you for inspiring me to continue to master and use methods explained in this book!! Gary in dreamland; have a nice dream!!😊❤️🎲✨️✨️✨️✨️✨️
Totally agree. Luckily, still have my Dover edition from when I first started in magic 30+ years ago. This was the first book that I read dedicated to mentalism effects and there are some real gems hiding in its pages. Like with so much magic, update the presentation for modern audiences and you have a "New" routine that NO ONE else is performing :)
You mentioned the Jinx was in the public domain. I have a copy on PDF that I got somewhere. Also in the last video some guys commented on books or articles that could be obtained free and you offered up Stewart James' Encyclopedia of Rope Tricks. I think that would make an interesting video, books that are available free...legally
When I first started, I read both of them, but I didn't "get it." I had never seen mentalism performed, so I was confused by what the audience was supposed to perceive. After I saw mentalism demonstrated, I was hooked, and I dove in with new eyes.
Dan Harlan had a project where he updated every trick in Tarbell on Penguin Magic. His spirit slate update is worth the $8 or $10 for the video download. Combined with Practical Mental Magic and there are some real winners.
Luv Annemann. For me a lot of mentalism is a bit slow.Thats just how it seems to me.These books are a bit out dated and some of the routines seem ancient.Having said that there are some gems 💎.A transformation card trick is almost instantaneous and highly effective as say a red card swaps position with a black card which actually seems like real magic. But I have the book and it’s interesting and at some point I’m definitely getting Annemanns enigma at some point so I’m not dissing mentalism at all.I think there is just a dynamic difference between mentalism and card tricks. Both are great.
Thanks for the feedback, Brett. I find the music volume is quite variable depending on how you're listening. Can I ask what device(s) you're using? Appreciate your candor.
I have to agree. Right now I am watching through the TV and its speakers but I often create an mp3 and listen when I'm on the treadmill and I think that would make it worse. Jeff, you're compelling enough, you don't need it :)
I know this omission is really getting to you, but think of it this way; now we got a longer, more in-depth look at what is arguably the #1 budget book on the whole shelf.
i wish you do in an depth review of karl fulves publications to magic such as his magazines the pallbeaers epilogue and chronicles as well as his many booklets he produced cause he represents a lifetime in magic and if i were to make a list of top 5 most influential magicians of all time it would be a crime not to put him on that list along with annemann al baker and few others

Great review thanks for sharing.

You got this, Gary!
@@EruditeMagic 😊❤️✨️✨️
I'm glad you forgot it so that we got this detailed video of it instead!
So glad you liked it!
This is one of my favourite three books that I own hands down
What are the other two? 🤔
Probably mnemonica by Juan tamariz and bobo
Good choices!

Absolutely 💯!
Excellent video as always!
Many thanks!
Fantastic Review :) Thank You for doing this :)
You're so welcome, George!
I do not remember the page number but TERVIL is an amazing piece of billet mentalism.
Indeed!!
Great episode!
Thanks, Scott!

Thanks for the suggestion!
Amazing books, this one and corinda are great books for mentalist!
I far prefer this one to Corinda, but I certainly don't hate 13 Steps. What about you - which do you prefer?
@@EruditeMagic like boths those books are very good for starting in Mentalist ( no magic trick)

Yes, both are great, and neither are mutually exclusive. That's the beauty of magic - you get to choose what you want to present to an audience!
Darn it now i got to read it again.
😆 "You're welcome" 🤷♂️
@@EruditeMagic I own dang near every book he published
Annemann? Which ones are you missing?
@@EruditeMagic i don't think I'm missing any. I'd have to dig through all my bookshelves and see.
@jessejamesmcguire are they originals, or compilations? Either way, impressive!
I found silly billy at Don's
I'd be interested to hear more about Annemann's Enigma. I know almost nothing about Annemann and it feels like a big gap in my historical knowledge.
I plan to do an episode on this in the future!
Just a heads up. At least for me, this week the music is a little overpowering in the mix and was impacting my ability to clearly hear you at points.

Did I spot a Book Dart, Jeff?
Ha, no doubt you did! Post-its, too (which I know is a big no-no). Good eye, David!
@@EruditeMagic Awesome! Love me some Book Darts. Great video, as always!
Thank you!
Are there any tricks using a nail writer by the way? :)
There are! A few make use of the venerable swami gimmick
