Excellent how-to video. Your step-by-step demo was very easy to follow and just what I was looking for to package my handcrafted soaps. These boxes will also work great for my hand-made jewelry designs. Thank you so much!!! 😊😊😊
Peter, thank you for such an easy to understand demonstration of such a lovely box design. I have been looking for something to use in my classroom that my students can easily make for Christmas, and this is perfect. It is fabulous that you have not narrated it as well, and it is watch/see, learn and do, which makes it great for some of my students who have speech/language disabilities and cannot follow verbal instructions easily. Appreciated, and thank you for sharing.
Excellent! A beautiful box made by a master bookbinder. This is not just a quick flimsy box made out of old greeting cards (they have their place, of course). This is the real thing, could be used in professional applications like for fine jewelry. I need to make ring boxes, this was the instruction I found that created the best quality box. Visit Peter's website (www.papierdesign.de) to see more of his artwork and bookbinding. He truly is a master. And yes, he is German, the video is from Germany. Be curious, people. Research is fun. Learn about the people behind the videos. Thank you, Peter, for taking the time to make this video. It is much appreciated, as are your other videos.
No unkind comments please this person could be totally deaf, we don't know. However it would have been nice to have measurements put on the screen. Beautiful craftsmanship.
This is really a great video! I love the lack of music and mindless chatter that are distracting to me. The process had my total attention, so I didn't occasionally need to rewind because my mind had wandered off. As for size-- some simple measurements of the intended contents should give you a general idea for the bottom half. As for the top, I'd suggest tracing the base of the completed bottom onto paper, then add 1/8" on each of the 4 sides.
Thank you Peter. You showed me all I need to know, and the only doubt I had about how much bigger to make the second box was cleared up in the comments. Now it's my turn - you make it look easy but I'm sure it will take some trial and error on my part :-)
Greetings Peter. I make all sorts of boxes using card stock for a small jewellery shop. Ive always wanted to attempt making boxes that are more durable. After watching all your videos I decided to give it a try. I purchased 1mm high count board and last night I attempted the base of a small trinket box. Guess what Peter? It came out almost perfect. Im very happy because I will continue to practice and perfect my boxes. You make it look so simple because you are nothing short of a master. And because you are so kind to upload this tutorial, you have helped me achieve doing something I never thought I could. A huge thank you from me. Tonight I will attempt the lid - making it so I can get a snug fit is not so easy but I will take great care to try and succeed. When I am able to, I will make the effort to invest in a guillotine and a set square. Once again, thank you. Cleopatra from Zimbabwe
Peter, I made the lid. I cut the the board for the lid slightly bigger, of course, and It does fits the base, but on my next project I think will cut it a bit more. Practice makes perfect, right. I used a Japanese paper to cover my board. It came out absolutely beautiful because of your tutorial guiding me, but I have noticed a slight discolouration on the Japanese paper - its sort of dull. Such a beautiful paper. I used a normal white paper glue mixed with a little water. Still, I am absolutely delighted that Ive managed to make a covered box this way. Thank you again, for teaching me.
Very cool video. I really enjoyed it. It was refreshing not to have a lot of narration, but still be able to hear the work being done. I am going to try this! Thank you for sharing.
I too was unsure about dimensions but Jacob Pocchiari shared 1 year ago: "Say you used 1/16 inch thick cardboard, make everything 1/16 inch bigger." The box is splendid and the video straightforward. I am giving this a big "thumbs up" and am hoping in future you begin with a list of supplies and dimensions. Thank you Peter for sharing your knowledge. I know a little girl who will be very happy this Easter! (Am going to place a chocolate Easter Egg for her to find!)
This is the best instructable "no-nonsense-just-get-on-with-it" video I have seen yet. Didnt have to turn my tv sound off to listen to endless "yak yak yak blah blah chatter".
Thank you! I've always wanted to make a box like this, but wasn't creative (and spatially minded) enough to figure it out! The box is intended for gift-giving or light storage use -- strength isn't an issue for me. Without voice-over, translation isn't a problem; not to mention the fact that demonstrating is many times more powerful than explaining.
Exactly!!! I stopped watching many of these type of videos made by women, who talk and chatter continuously through the whole thing, " Now, doesn't that look nice!!! " etc etc ,etc. Until you're read to through up. This is why Asian howto videos are so wonderful. No talking, just the procedure.
I just wanted to say again that I love this guys work and would love a dvd collection of all his different projects. I would pay any price! Hope you read this soon!
Really great. Each box I make is a little better than the last one.Doesn't need any words and anyway I suppose words would be in German which I was never any at.
That's really a lt easier way to make a very elegant box;-))Thanks;-)) Hope ypu make more tutorials on how to make other designs and shapes;-)) The easiest way;-)) More power and God bless;-))
You are very talented. I love hand making boxes , folders to books and binders , or any other container type that come out neat and sturdy. I love working with paper. Any kind of paper . your videos are great. One QUESTION. WHAT WHITE GLUE DO YOU USE WHEN COVERING THE BOX OR BOOK?
Well, my company has 7 mitsubishi mechatronic lines from Emmeci plus 2 sm92's and a smd 92 standard and a 2004 mechatronic (omron). You would be amazed at the types of boxes you can make with the kits that come with. Chief Mechanic, Elegant packaging.
simple and easy steps. very good video. I am just wondering what size the lid needs to be?? is it slightly bigger than the bottom part?? if yes how much?
Peter, this is lovely... Totally agree with Boola, no unnecessary frills and jabber (I hate the meaningless jabber which accompanies most videos) ... ;)
You need to add on a hair more than the thickness of the cardboard you're using on all four sides, which since he doesn't know what thickness you'll be working from, he can't give you hard numbers there. Of course he also didn't make suggestions on glue, cardstock or pretty paper sources either... ;)
Don't know what he used, but I'd say you should use regular PVA/white/wood/school glue -- maybe diluted with wallpaper paste if you're making huge boxes.
Love the video! What glue are you using? Also, what point size is the chipboard? I got 20pt chipboard, and it feels flimsy and curled when I used glue.
@@PeterBaumgartnerLooks like both of those aren't widely available in the US. The thickest chipboard I could find is 70pts (1.778mm), and they don't sell the glue here. But at least I have an idea of what to look for. Thanks!
oh, people, c'mon, can't you make the measurments up to fit your needs? what comes first? the thing that needs to be hidden or the box it's hidden in? ;-)
what glue did you use? or is there also any alternatives from it? what box/paper did you use? is it chipboard or some card stock??? :) Thanks! nice vid btw
please can i see the measurement of your fantastic beautiful box? the reason is i make the roses, and also beaded hair clips, and bracelets and would love to have a box like yours... guttentag, and ty for your lovely video.. elisabeth
No unnecessary jabbering, or disturbing music. You meant business. You and I both paid 100% attention.Thank you so much.......!
Excellent video tutorial on basic box making. As always, tutorials without chatter and music are, by far, the best.
I like the fact that there is no commentary - the visual is so good there is no need for explanations.
I came across this video a couple of months ago, was fascinated and now have dozens of little boxes of various sizes!!
Actually putting the box together with the outside paper? Genius! Two birds - one stone. Love it!

first time i saw that lesson about 2 years ago. Since then, I've seen a lot of different lessons but still think that one is one of the best

I hit the "like" button before I even watched the video. Your videos never disappoint!
I am a box freak so i enjoyed this video very much.
I was captivated through the entire vid. Gonna give this a try, thanks for sharing
Making boxes like a BOSS!

Loved watching how to make the box
Turned out beautiful
Thanks for teaching us

This looks like the best way to get a square box & lid. Thanks

I think she speaks beautifully, nothing wrong with her English. Nice tutorial
Beautiful Box. No words needed.
Wonderful!!!!!! unfortunatly people that no have any expirience in this matter; could seam complicated.

Why do you need a list of supplies - it is obvious. And size? work out the size to your own requirements

well that was strangely calming to watch, lovely
Too cute! I didn't think it was boring at all - really enjoyed the fast forward near the end :)

A so clean and easy way to do a box. Great.

brilliantly done, too much work for something given away to a kid that probably won't appreciate it. but I'm still inspired for other projects, thanks
I was expecting that was something that a amateur can use :) but it seems professional stuff.
Thank you for the information.

brilliant presentation!!
Loved this tutorial! Very easy to understand. Thank you for sharing.
:0)
I think that you are supposed to determine the measurements based on what you want to put in it.
Her Baumgartner sehr gute Videos ich hatte sie in der 5. Klasse in Music sie sind sehr toller Lehrer
Dastu xosh be zor jwana
That's working smarter and not harder...
simple and easy steps. very good video.
I am just wondering what size the lid needs to be?? is it slightly bigger than the bottom part?? if yes how much?
This is really cool !!!! Yeah, I also wonder what type of glue you're using....

Don't know what he used, but I'd say you should use regular PVA/white/wood/school glue -- maybe diluted with wallpaper paste if you're making huge boxes.

Excellent tutorial. How much bigger do you make the box-top to fit over the base?
Cool tutorial! Thank you!
Also want to know about the glue. What size difference is the top of the box from the bottom?
Thanks
Love the video! What glue are you using? Also, what point size is the chipboard? I got 20pt chipboard, and it feels flimsy and curled when I used glue.
Glue:Planatol BB. Board: 2mm

Beautiful! thank you.
What size difference was there between the bottom box and the lid ? So the fit together easy
Very nice. Thanks.
oh, people, c'mon, can't you make the measurments up to fit your needs? what comes first? the thing that needs to be hidden or the box it's hidden in? ;-)
Then.... you make chocolates, decorate them, wrap them up, put them in the cute box and impress the person you like. :D
This IS beautiful, but I wish the dimensions of the chipboard had been given...
Nice & elegant
