i have a 2023 4500 Crew cab 4x4 1LT+ 84 CA and the 1750 allison is way better than the 10 speed... Mine is derated to 14001 GVW and has 13,500 rear springs otherwise same as 5500... I also have a Monroe Air ride cab 3"+ Lift and Bilstein 5165 shocks... rides better than my old 2500 Denali HD !! I also made a custom winch mount and fitted an 18K winch... It doesn't lack power... I drove the 4500 and a 3500 dually back to back... for a truck that weighs 9400 lbs empty (aluminum ProTow 11' box) it goes every bit as good as the 3500 i think because of the 4.30 axles and the 33" tires... no factory on board air however the air ride cab adds and electric compressor and auto draining tank... oh yeah and it was less money than the 3500...
My vision of this truck would be to put a utility body on back and throw a large slide in camper the back. Perfect for spending the summer in Alaska or northern Canada fishing or hunting.
It would shake that camper apart. I have a new one with a service body and crane on it. It rode and drove like total dogshit empty. Now it still rides and drives like dogshit loaded down with tools, parts, welder/generator, etc. The 2019 F-550 with 140k on it that I moved out of rode and drove like a luxury car compared to this thing.
The Allison transmission that Allison makes is extremely reliable and proven. The GM 10 speed is not. The Allison doesn’t hold these vehicles back as they’re reliable and capable.
Nice how Chevrolet Silverado medium duty commercial trucks is a fiberglass clampshell style hood same feature that was seen on a lot of class 8 over the road semi trucks in terms of the same feature baked in
Tbis truck is best for rust belt hemispheres like in Michigan and Colorado as a winter truck for plowing snow thanks to 4x4 and some utility equipment for the back, nothing else more.
JB, I'm looking at getting a new keystone Toy hauler with a pin weight of around 3600 lbs, but really like the ram 3500 limited. Do I need a dual my, or can I get by with srw?
I really don't understand why they have such a beefy truck and its really not setup to tow a heavy trailer! Like you said, these trucks are king on hauling stuff but they have low numbers on towing. Such a shame for the ones that want a big tow vehicle other than a 1 ton or 450 Ford. Big Truck big Rv was going to buy one of these trucks until his salesman said its really not setup to tow a Fifth wheel heavy. He said heck glad he knew that before getting it. I would haven never thought.
I drove trucks with Allison trans. 6 speed were not good. Always problems. We had one international 54000 gross with a 10 speed. If I remember correctly. Was not a 6. Never broke. I used it over mountain to la from Bakersfield everyday. Was constantly overloaded. But that’s another story.
@@2015_Rubicnni don’t understand what he means. From what I’ve seen I’ve heard nothing but good about Allison. Lots of school buses built in the past 20 years have them as well and many are still running 10,15,17 years later.
I’m not even sure what I would use a truck like that for. The payload seemed surprisingly low. At 4300 pounds, it’s only 700 pounds more payload than my 2500. 🤷♂️
😂 at the rough ride. Its because its just a chassis cab without an upfit. Ill tell you though we ordered a reg cab 450 chassis cab and before the upfit that thing moved out lol. Bouncy but it was quick being light.
JB i had a 2023 F450 crew 4x4 Snowplow/camper extra pkg; And i sold it after 7 months of daily driving, that thing made me wear my coffee more often than an angry wife😂 I got punished even with 1200 pds of bags of soil in the back….. Brutal
you could've left the term out of the description it wasn't necessary to use the transmission is not by Allison. It is a 10 speech transmission developed between GM and Ford in the answer to the question is of course they should add it to that vehicle.
these are commercial trucks with a specific purpose.....the market for a select few dont warrant a new build.....fleet trucks for construction work is the intention....they could offer a custom build option but time and $$ would be huge factor.....majority of sales are for the purpose it was designed for
Those are true working trucks JB. They could be made to be nicer and converted into like a show hauler but they really not intended for stuff like that. They are not heavy duty enough for stuff like we do on the Railroad but they are perfect for smaller dump trucks or service trucks. Stuff like that. They are definitely more heavy duty than our “HD” pickups.
The only reason a ten speed exists is to try and meet government mpg mandates. I dont think they apply to work trucks as harshly. Thin oil, lower oil pressure and hotter thermostats all destroy motors in the name of saving the environment. Screw a ten speed and low sulfur diesel too. BTW, GM doesn't test new products on customers. That's a Ford thing.
I can't believe they still use these old cabs smh. The 4500 and 5500 trucks should be same size as ford/ram, not medium duty. With a wide sfa and 19.5 wheels.....wake up gm.
Beautiful very beautiful good useful wonderful ❤❤❤❤❤ trucks I love 💘 it when I see it I feel happy God bless you,,but to be more perfect must to be made mechanical motors parts not electric losers ❤❤❤❤❤ and infrontof made from iron not blastic I mean hood

Bro, thanks for listening and helping me out with these medium duty reviews!

I would buy the 5500 If they just updated the interior to the new standard. The 24k towing I can make work for me. I like the engine accessibility
My standard steel skirted CM flatbed weighs 1500 lbs.
The 10 speed Allison in my new 2500 hd has been at the dealership for 50 days because of no reverse. Give me one with a 6 speed. 6.6 gas motor
The Allison transmission that Allison makes is extremely reliable and proven. The GM 10 speed is not. The Allison doesn’t hold these vehicles back as they’re reliable and capable.
I Have a 5500 and the exhaust brake works WAY more better in tow haul mode...love my 5500.
“This is a truck right here!” As he bounces around into the passenger seat! Lol Dag on dude, you should be wearing a helmet in that thing
Hahaha !
Thanks

I wonder if th 6 speed in this is related to 6 speed thay they had behind the gas engine..
Is the 6.6 gas an option for that build ?

Deleting that egr and tuning it would be so nice on this.

My 6 speed has over a million miles, just standard maintenance
Wtf are you talking about? The Allison 6 speed is a real Allison. No issues what so ever.

It’s made for a utility truck outfit or flatbed.
So the extra 700 lb is important for flatbed-ing full size vehicles
The GVWR is 23,000 payload will be over 12,000 even after adding a bed.
@@supporterofsanityThat makes way more sense. I could have sworn JB said payload was only 4400 pounds. Thanks!
10000lb skid steer on the bed nice lol😅

Fitters put the batteries in the right place check out the 2001 to 2010, Kodi XC 4500 by Monroe and you’ll get the picture

Gm needs to change the gcwr on these so we can tow with then. I agree goldmine if they did. Thanks for the video.😊

The half ton 10 speed is by ford the 3/4 and 1 ton is by gm and Allison

doesn't matter if you're towing or hauling a 10 speed transmission is going to be better and more efficient than a six speed
I think this is payload numbers are incorrect/misleading. Because payload is not just 4,000 lbs.
Chevy should sell Silverado 4500 to consumers like ford does with their 450.
Nothing wrong with 6 sp Allison
That would ride very good if you had liquid spray on it
I’d love to see these w/ the GMC front end
Damn that's a real ruff ass man's true truck. Lots of power, no comfort. 🤣🤣🤣
I still like the rig

If a 10 speed, it's no Allison, it's a FORD developed transmission.

Put the 6500 cab over on this frame and engine
Not meant to drive without a bed. Lol

No gas engine option. No manual transmission option. Overpriced for its capability.
The truck rides like a buck board. Made by international not in a Chevy factory
Just don't buy cab and chassis. Don't buy detune.
