I really enjoyed Sean and Shawn candidly answering questions, and hearing about the care they put into all the details and decisions for the tournament. It's got me even more excited about spectating at the event in person tomorrow, can't wait! A couple of times they mentioned the course designer, sorry I didn't catch his name - I randomly met him at the event two years ago in the bleachers at hole 18 where he was fielding questions from several fans who'd figured out who he is. He would made a great guest on The Upshot in advance of next year's major - the level of information he knows is off the charts. For example, that day was kind of windy and it was my first time spectating - I asked if that level of wind was typical for this tournament and he said no, it was higher than average, and he told me the current wind speed and listed the wind speeds for recent years in comparison. Also he was describing the hours and hours and hours he walks the course most days for months, studying it from all angles, looking for the best ways to set up each hole. It was a fascinating glimpse into what's involved.
I wonder if having a course that is so well designed for FPO as well as MPO was a factor in deciding to host Champion's Cup there next year. You lose the wooded course that you want, but you get quality TD's as caretakers for one season, as well as a course that suits 3 major categories; a good MPO layout, a good FPO layout, and the ability to host a significant number of spectators. As long as you can get back to Appling (or some other wooded course that can consistently host the tourney), then one year here doesn't bother me.
I also would love to see alternate pins on all 18 holes for Champions Cup next year. Like you discussed, they don't have to drastically change the hole every time. They can be subtle differences, and if you do all 18, they don't all have to be amazing. Just having all 18 makes it worth it and would be so cool. Love the Tour Championship change. Thank you DGPT. It will now feel like a true culmination of the season and is a format that finally appropriately rewards how players played throughout the season. Legitimizes the tournament for me.
I agree having alternate pin positions at single course events is ideal. However, creating alternate pin positions is not easy, especially if they are within 30-40 ft of each other. The event has to create two bullseyes, circle ones, and circle twos. The green will look crazy busy, especially if FPO has a different basket location on the hole as well.
Sean offering a refund means he stands behind his product, which in this case is the OTB open. I respect that. Wait you don't want a Fast & Furious 15: Champions Cup?
AMAZING breakdown on the Champions Cup history!

Nice to see ‘the Sean/Shawn’s’ answer questions honestly and straightforward as opposed to the guys of the DGPT.
Jeff Spring might be the most unlikable nice guy ever. And he never takes off his sunglasses

As of this morning, Hailey isn't showing on PDGA Live.

The Cup moving to Stockton next year tells me that Northwood was a financial/spectator disaster. OTB and DGLO are Plus events and bring the money.
