Hello my friend! Join me on an adventure through Baja, I found a secret beach cove that was absolutely beautiful. The rocky, steep cliffs and beautiful beaches are some of the best reasons to visit this area of Mexico. I did some camping, exploring, surfing, off roading, and enjoyed some delicious food. Everything went off without a hitch until I got scammed by the police.

Yes, vans are good. Some of them have pop-tops. Also, some camper vans. For more sleeping room.
And people convert camper vans to make room for a bigger work desk. Since people also work on the road. Most of them have a desk, already.
I like the camper vans with the boxed last half of van. Giving more space.
And the bathroom door that swivels. When you turn the door, it becomes a wetbath. Turn it back, for a bathroom. Saving space. Instead of a separate bathroom and shower area

So why go? If you don't want to get burned, stay away from the fire! If you do get burned, it could be your fault!

@@ChuckSeayII You are 100% correct. There is a narrative in the U.S. that nothing bad happens to white people, especially women and that they are the SAME as a man and can go anywhere, doing anything. This is a media ad-campaign of lies. They cover up all the stories of white women traveling and having lots of things happen against their will. It is covered up though. The reason they have this false sense of security is that guys n gals that look like her, shield her for negative destructive exposure, and they mistakenly take that for granted and Go on the Road and think that level of insular protection exists magically like a bubble. No. Once you leave your home of protection, much more things can go wrong than right. In fact, you literally become a target, not something to protect. And the person above who said: "There are plenty of pretty women in that area so don't say all those women are targeted". No, she is not just pretty, she is a foreigner. A foreign white woman. The locals understand the difference and turn a blind eye. Stop thinking we are all one under the Sun. Differences are Real and they Matter.

The world is NOT a safe place and never will be, people that are worth trusting are few and far between(there is only 1 real person you can trust and that is YOU). Once you get past those realities you find out the safest place to be is on your own land in the middle of nowhere with a lot of firepower to protect what you have, a person(spouse) to have your back is ideal, but only if you can find that person, which now a days is only for a lucky few(approx. 10% of men get 80% of the women out there) leaving the other 90% of men without any women because they only want the 10% that all the other women want.

Rosarito Beach use to be fairly safe since it is a resort town(it was fun to go down for the grunion run), but the trip between there and the boarder could be sketchy because of it being a resort. I've heard from people that go down to Mexico more frequently that the last 10 years has be steadily getting worse and worse just about everywhere.
Especially with everything going on with the border, even though the majority of it is much further east along Arizona and Texas boarders by what I hear, and the turmoil caused by covid in some areas. This year it really isn't a good time to go down. I'm glad everyone got back safe.

There are many safe places in Latin America that you could visit with local friends to provide knowledge of where to go and where to avoid. For my friends without local knowledge I can’t ever recommend going off the beaten path. And yes the US has many of the same problems. I have been robbed at gunpoint twice. Once in San Francisco at Pier 39 in the middle of the day. And the second in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. And had my industrial automation stolen by border authorities. So please take care and stay safe and healthy. And please don’t risk yourself for us “friends “ we will continue following your safe adventures!!

I had something similar happen while on a road trip around Europe. Stopped by "police" in Slovenia, near the border of Italy, who were wearing uniforms and working out of a van ... no badges that I saw. Threatened to take my car away from me, and instead took all the money I had in order to let me go. When that happens it just feels good to have it behind you and to be safely on your way. Leaves you with a bad memory of what was mostly a very good time. Gotta let it go and be glad you got away safely. -- I loved your poem in this one. Well done.

Back in the mid 80s myself and a couple of buds took a trip from Florida to Mexico city and surrounding tourists locals via Baja in a 60s VW van.. We stopped at almost every cantina for drinks but often only wound up eating the wonderful home cooked hanf made Mexican foods with a few cervezas to wash it down enjoying the locals comraderie and mixed English Spanish get to know one another... We broke down in south Baja and literally pulled the engine out and rebuilt it in the middle of a dry boned desert two track... Thankfully we had a case of oil,o rings, and the basic hand tools and manpower to do the job.. We grabbed the ferry a couple days later to old messico and headed south to Mexico City and literally had a ball all the way down and back up stopping at almost every roadside joint to eat and throw down a few cervezas as well as that weird uber cheap green tequila they all had... Was one of the best 2 months of my life, met many Americans as well as wonderful Mexican people and even others from around the world during that time.. I wish I could do it again but with the cartels ways now vs back then along with the anti American vibe down there I wouldn't... Camping out on the pacific coast of Baja, fishing, surfing, and everything else that went down on that once in a lifetime trip made it truly epic in my minds journal...

He can monitor his house, online.
Most of the time, they are here. In Orange County.
Yes, getting pulled-over in TJ, they ask for money.
Our dollar being worth more, there.
    It never happened to me.
But I noticed, at streets with no stop sign, no one stops. Unless, they see your car in the intersection.
And, some people buy an extra travel insurance.
Like in Chula Vista, before Mexico. Can buy a few days of insurance or more.
I think insurance here doesn't cover a vehicle, in Mexico. That originates from here

The repair shops in TJ are really cheap. So, $700 dollars in damage here might cost $150 to $200 to repair. So, it's good to find out repair costs, before you pay-out. If you had an accident, there.
But, you can purchase a few days or more of insurance, in Chula Vista. Before going to Mexico

Back in 2008 I drove down to Baja in my Jeep Wrangler looking for a little adventure. We were planning our trip using a travel guide, and in one of the maps in the guide, the solid line on the map that indicates the highway becomes dotted at one point, which indicates the end of pavement. There were notes on the map like ‘gas station coming’, so it appeared that we’d need to be prepared to bring extra gas and anything else we might need since we were venturing into an unmaintained area that had very little or no infrastructure that we could count on. On our way back north, we got stopped at a checkpoint maintained by federales and I thought, ‘oh man, how’s this going to go down?’ They wanted to know what was in my center console so I let him look. I mean, they all had automatic rifles slung over their shoulders, what was I going to do? Thankfully, he looked in the console and then let us pass. But we were a long way from any town or the border - they really had us by the short ones if they wanted to make things difficult for us. Glad you made it back safely.

If they would had towed your car, you would had lost everything. They don’t inventory the items inside. Once it’s towed your lucky if it still has 4 tires on it when ( and if you get it back).

Very sorry you got robbed. We went on a week long trip to Puerto Neuvo in 2006. We saw several people pulled over on the highways but luckily weren't ourselves. As part of her school activities large groups would go to northern Mexican towns to help build homes for the people without trouble but that was all before 2006. Frankly after our family trip I've never seen a reason to return. Yes the local people are very nice but between the gangs and government officials it just doesn't seem safe anymore. Seems like being careful where you chose to stretch your limits would be the best advice!

Glad you're safe. I have a friend who went to Mexico sometime in 2005-06 ? and the Family that they were staying with had a small son and one day the son was missing, well they took off searching in a car and eventually they caught up with the kidnapper, and it was driving to the "Border" coming to the US. And the Mother frantically was telling the US border Police that a Car in Front Kidnapped their son, the Police Checked and the Driver insisted the boy (Kidnapped boy) was sleeping, the driver insisted he wasn't feeing well and he didn't want to wake him. The police Officer shook him, and He was ice cold, the Police Officer lifted the boys shirt, they had killed him and opened his chest and stuffed him with kilos of "Cocaine". True Story.

As a veteran of many remote baja beach camping adventures I stopped going in 2009 as the cartel violence was rising. Lots of issues now driving around down there. Cartel checkpoints, kidnapping, extortion, getting framed, etc..I stopped going. My last trip there drove by a running gun battle between the federales and cartels with the federales firing m-60 machine guns in TJ. TJ is the most dangerous city on the face of the planet outside war zones. I would drive a beat up old rig and purposely look poor. The petty bribery has always been a thing because most of the local police are unpaid and was no big deal. The cartel craziness is a recent phenomenon and very dangerous. The rule of law is very fractured in Mexico currently. The central government's authority is being challenged by very powerful regional criminal cartels.

I'm glad that you're all OK and safe. I got pulled over too just before the border for going against a one way street. Luckily the cop just pointed me to the right direction and sent me on my way.

You should know that a lot of cops are like her there and they tried to get me in my semi down there once, but I finally convinced them that my company's lawyers handled all traffic citations and if they wanted to get the money , which was $4,897.00, they would have to talk to the lawyers about it and they let me go. The whole traffic stop took 2 and a half hours and my delivery was an hour and 20 minutes late , so I never drive there anymore. I always thought that was an odd amount and I don't even go there anymore.

So glad to hear your are back safe! I was enjoying your sort of “meditational poem” and was not expecting such a jarring change to the video. Once again happy to hear you are safe!

@@DrHannahStraight Maybe you should have put up a title card with a nod to Monty Python, "And now for something totally different... But seriously, just happy for you that everything turned out more or less OK! You are truly inspirational!
