  • Michael travels to Scotland to deliver hire machinery to a farmer with a breakdown.
Michael answers a comment on his RUclips which he found a little confusing, to say the least, and he drops into Mainsgill farm shop on his way back home.
Are you a farm shop fan?
Have you been to Mainsgill? Have you also been to Gloagburn Farm shop?

Nice to have you in Scotland Michael and I have to fully agree with you on three points. 1, regarding your rant on non payers and exposing the fact that there are businesses that causes these issues, when I was in business I took the same action against them and in all my years only had one that fully turned to a bad debt that was not fully paid. 2, Mainsgill is outstanding and 3, so is Gloagburn (Crawfords Farm). Thanks for the video. You will probably find that the ones who negatively comment about the non payment don't fully understand credit control and the level of credit that has to be offered in business, and in the hire game it can rack up very quickly.

Hi, great videos usual. The person commented about you pursuing a company for its debts, has obviously never run a company or been involved in the finance department of a company. Over the years I’ve worked for myself for some quite large and very professional companies, and it seems at some stage despite running full credit checks most companies end up with some bad debts that need chasing the way you describe. I’m glad you’ve made some progress.

Bad debts pull good businesses down. You were entirely right to pursue them and its worked. While I'm not unsympathetic to whatever their issues are you cant let them become your problem

You do a good job taking care of people. You deserve to be paid in a timely fashion. I still can't get used to all the driving on the wrong side of the road all the time. {humor} I like the videos, I was able to meet the owner of Euro Auctions kind of by accident when he was here in the USA. He was just pitching in and doing what ever was needed to help his people at the Florida Auction.

When it comes to bad debts, you need to look at it the context of the sales needed to recover from the loss, especially if operating on tight margins. If operating at a 10% margin you need 9 times the bad debt amount in sales to recover from the loss.

I to don't understand what's wrong with chasing owed money, we always do when it's overdue just normal business practice. We would also put unpaid accounts on stop once their credit limit is met or they fail to make a due payment. Tight credit control we find to be esential.
